Alarm Goes Off
I slowly open my eyes and saw the sun on my face.
"Ughhh..." I rolled over and saw something circled red on my calendar. I sighed and rolled back.
Today's the day, huh? I got up and looked inside my closet. "Where's my tux?" I walked into my mom's room and found it hanging in the closet. I took it up and walked out. Before I was fully out the door, I saw a picture of my family with my dad.
A Few Years Ago
"I'M TRYING TO DO WHAT'S BEST FOR THE FAMILY!" My dad yelled at mom.
"YOU DON'T THINK I'M TRYING TO DO THE SAME!" My mom yells back.
"I GET HOME LATE EVERY NIGHT TO PAY FOR OUR EXPENSES! AND WHAT DO YOU DO???"
My mom said nothing and let dad walk out the door.
"Mom?"
She looked in my direction and slightly smiled. "Itaru? Why are you up so late?"
"I heard you and dad yelling." My mom walked closer to me. "Is something wrong?"
She patted me on the head."You should get some sleep. It's getting late."
Til that day my father hasn't returned to our family.
Back to Present
I went downstairs and saw breakfast already prepared on the kitchen table.
"You ready for the big party tonight?" My mom asked while making pancakes.
"Yeah. I just need to buy shoes." I started to eat the pancake in front of me.
My mom sighed. "You should've bought them yesterday."
"I couldn't. I was hanging out with a friend."
My sister across the table started to smirk. "You mean girlfriend?"
I blushed. "Pffffft, no..." I tried to avoid eye-contact.
"Oh really." She looked down at hand. "Then, what's that around your finger?"
My mom and I looked down at my finger. "When did you start wearing a ring?" My mom started to get curious.
I put my hand away and continued to eat. "It's just a present. No big deal."
My mom and sister both looked at each other, by the look on their faces they didn't believe a word I said.
"I'm gonna go now." I got up and headed for the door.
"You need money?" My mom walked out of the kitchen.
I stopped and walked back. "Yes..." I held out my hand and slouched.
On the Streets
"Let's see. Where can I buy fancy shoes?" I looked forward and saw Tamiko and Jin walking together. "Hey, guys!" I waved my hand and walked towards them. "What you guys doing?"
"Going grocery shopping for Tamiko's mom. What you doing?"
"Just buying some shoes for tonight."
"Oh yeah. Wanna come to the party tonight, Tamiko?" Jin asked out of nowhere.
Tamiko looked up from picking her apples. "Why you asking all the sudden?"
Jin scratched the back of his head. "Oh, I don't know. Just thought it'll be fun. So you wanna go?"
"You sure?"
"Yeah, I'm sure. Coach won't be upset if it's just one person."
"I don't know... Do I have to wear anything fancy?"
"I mean it is a party."
"You're right. I should wear a dress."
"Make sure the dress fits, you gorilla."
She pouted and looked away. "I don't have time for your insults. If you don't mind, I have to go now." Tamiko walked away.
"I mind." Jin smirked and she looked back.
"Whatever..." She rolled her eyes and left.
I looked back at Jin. "Why would you invite Tamiko?!?!"
Jin started to giggle. "Sorry dude. I just thought you wanted her to come, even though you're supposed to impress the mayor's daughter." His eyebrows raised and I sighed.
"Exactly. Why would I want her to come if I'm trying to impress someone else?"
"Oh yeah..." Jin thought about it and smiled. "Oh well. I thought it would be more fun."
I sighed. "I guess it would be nice to see her at the party."
"You like her, don't you?"
I looked at Jin. "I mean... LIKE is a strong word. I wouldn't say like, but adore? Oh, I don't know." Jin started to whisper something. "What you say?"
"Oh, nothing." Jin immediately responded.
7:37 PM
From my house, I start running to the mayor's.
"Why did I leave so late! The party already started!"
At Mayor's
I bend over and put my hands on my knees. "I'm... so... tired..."
"Ironic how you run every day in practice."
I looked over to the side and saw Jin crossing his arms.
"Guys!!!" I saw Tamiko from behind running towards us.
"Now why are you late?" Jin gave her the attitude.
She bent down to catch her breath. "My mom wanted me to look pretty for this party..."
I started to blush.
"You okay?" Jin asked while he put his arm on top of my shoulder.
"Yeah." I couldn't make any eye-contact with Tamiko.
"We should probably head in. The party started 30 minutes ago." Jin walked and we followed.
Inside the Mayor's House
My eyes widened. "Wow." Tamiko and I spoke at the same time.
"I didn't know there was a pool!" She pouted. "I would've brought my swimsuit."
I started to blush even harder and Jin leaned closer to me. "Are you imagining something dirty?" He smirked.
I looked over to Jin and then looked away. "No..."
"Come on, Itaru! Let's look around!" She took my hand and pulled me in her direction.
Jin sighed and spotted the soccer team. "Hey, guys!" And he walked toward them.
Tamiko and I walked around on the second floor, seeing many doors.
"I think we're lost." She sweatdropped.
I giggled. "You said you wanted to walk around."
"Yeah, but..." Tamiko looked around. "I don't know where I'm going..."
"It's okay." I looked at her. "We'll find our way."
- Jin's POV -
"Where's Itaru?" The coach asked.
"I don't know."
The coach sighed and waited for Itaru to come around.
- Itaru's POV -
"So, why did you even want to come to this party?" I asked.
Tamiko looked at me. "I don't know. I thought it would be fun."
"Seriously? You don't seem like a person who would like this kind of stuff."
"Change of heart, I guess." Tamiko smiled.
"Girls are so confusing..."
"And guys aren't?"
We continued to walk and talk.
