Dear Dad,
I messed up. Big time. Help me please, I'm begging you. One letter, one reply that's all it takes to put a smile on my face.

My brother barged into my room without knocking.
He didn't bother to ask if I was decent or if anything he wouldn't like to see was going on, he just wandered into the room singing to the theme song of Dora The Explorer.
"D-D-Dora! D-D-Dora! Dora, Dora, Dora The Explorer!" he sang as he threw himself on my bed and rested his hand on his chin staring at me the whole time.
He was lucky Leighanne was in the shower otherwise she would've chased him out with a slipper for not saying Good Morning.
He gave my outfit a look over: blue jeans ripped at the knee and his old football shirt tied up to resemble a crop top. Of course, I wasn't able to pick out this outfit for myself. That's why I had my best friend, Leighanne, sleepover to do the job for me.
She had also styled my hair into two, neat cornrows and added blue and white (the school's colour) eyeshadow on my eyelids.
Today was the start of the football season meaning the first big game which would determine their reputation.
They can either be named the 'shit squad' or 'don't mess with them' team depending on this match so I had agreed to cheer Denzel and his team on.
Last year, Denzel's grades had gotten so bad that he was kicked off the football team and when they lost their first match, everybody agreed it was because Denzel wasn't there.
So, this year, they relied on him to lead them to victory.
I don't know how he handled all this pressure. Lately, he's been avoiding questions and smiling and cracking jokes every opportunity he gets and I am worried about him.
"Is there a reason you're in my room?" I question him as I search my room for my phone and purse under my laundry pile.
"Look, Kris, this match means a lot to me. I need to prove myself to the team again. Plus, scouts will be coming to the match. So please don't do anything embarrassing," I was surprised by his worrying demeanour replacing his care-free one so suddenly so I could do was nod my head.
The silence filled our room like a rushing tap slowly swallowing a bathtub.
"You know, for someone so ugly, you clean up well," he smirks at me breaking the silence.
I would've made a comment about how we had the same genes and if I was ugly, so was he but I knew what would truly get to him, "Shut up baby brother."
It got to him every time, I don't think he will ever be over our two minutes birth separation.
"Two minutes! It was two damn minutes!" He let out a frustrated sigh.
I laughed at how easily triggered he is,"Two minutes to slow."
Immediately, he stood up and made his way to the door,"Well if you're not down in two minutes, I'm eating your bacon," he says flustered.
He didn't have to tell me twice, I hop into white converses and grab the cheerleading pom-poms I had from freshman year and rush down the stairs.
Two at a time.
This girl sure does love her bacon.

We pulled up at the school half an hour after breakfast and bumper-to-bumper traffic. We were still early enough for Coach not to give Denzel a penalty which means you have to do laps around the school for being late, but still, the entire area was packed with people too old to be showing school spirit dressed in blue and white.
One man, who was wearing the opposite team's colours, walked past us lifting both arms up revealing sweat stains on his shirt. He shouted at the top of his lungs,"Go wolves! Go!"
The only problem was, his team was the badgers.
The opposing team sat across from us in dark red and white, their cheerleaders already doing all sorts of flips.
Ours sat lazily on the bench scrolling through Instagram and shouting "Go Team!" every now and then. This is exactly why I left the cheerleading team back in Freshman year. They never really, well... cheered.
Some petty people exchanged insults with the opposition or even threw hotdogs at them. When Denzel spotted this, he whispered in my ear, "What a waste of a good dog," causing me to snicker.
Not to help, the entire place reeked of sweat, cigarettes and plain, old body odour.
I wrinkle my nose and lean onto Leighannes shoulder. I didn't miss this at all last year.
"Going to go talk to Coach. Cheer me on, on the field, idiot," Denzel kissed my cheek and sent a lazy wave to Leighanne before running off into the crowd before I could wish him luck.
Once I had lost sight of him, I turned to face my best friend,"So how are we going to do this?" I was referring to getting part this crowd and into our seats.
Leighanne wearily eyed a man shoving past us dressed as a badger. Or at least the top part. he left his shorts on, exposing his hairy legs.
She dusted down her blue blouse. She had also worn the school's colours with her white jeans she even re-braided one of her dark braids blue, which she had tied back.
"Hold hands so we don't lose each other and shimmy through, I guess." She replied after a while.
"Hold your breath!" Leighanne added.
We dove into the crowd elbowing all sorts of madly dressed folks out of our way. Our seats were right at the back, the highest point for the best view.
Leighanne and I's hands stayed connected as my best friend walked ahead of me.
We worked together elbowing people out of the way and flipping the finger at people who cursed at us for about five minutes and we weren't even near our seats yet.
It wasn't until I was cornered by the last person I expected or wanted to see that I dropped my hand in shock and Leighanne's own faded into the crowd.
Dylan Ryan grabbed hold of my wrist and dug his nails into my skin. He pulled me under the bleachers where our only company was litter.
"Long time no see," his wicked look made me think why I ever loved him. If it wasn't for Dylan's ridiculously good looks I would've called myself mad.
"Not long enough! Not even close!" I hadn't expected the low snarl that came out of my mouth.
"Don't talk to me like that, Krissy. You and I are meant to be, you know that!" his voice was a sweet, slurring whisper. It was probably his attempt to make me fall head over heels for him again.
It wasn't working.
"Meant to be? You seemed to forget that when you cheated on me with Lauren!" The noise attracted some nosy passers-by to loiter around the bleachers like they had some business there.
They pretended to tie their laces or stop for a phone call to watch our argument, but I didn't care who was looking, I was livid and could only see red.
"You're making a scene, Krissy," he whispers so the onlookers around us can't hear.
A curly haired guy brings out his phone and starts to record.
"My name is Kristina! You lost your right to call me Krissy when you lost your dignity!" I shout back at him.
"Well maybe if you weren't so boring I wouldn't have cheated on you!" The words stung more than I expected, I thought I was over him, I guess not.
My eyes clouded over with tears and my hand shook while I raised it to his cheek.
I slapped him.
Fury was burning like a fire in his eyes. His muscles clenched and unclenched. He breathed hard.
I almost thought he was turning into Hulk. Almost.
All humour was knocked out of me when he pushed me to the ground and left me winded on the wet grass.
I fell on my butt then lost balance and hit hard on the floor. My head hit hard on the ground and blood stained my fawn-coloured hair.
My head hurt, my legs were tangled and the tears just could stop.
I saw a blurry image of Dylan standing with his hands in his pockets peering down at me. His facial expression showed regret-- not for pushing me but for doing it in public and in front of cameras. He could in a lot of trouble.
The crowd let out a series of 'ooh's and 'oh shit's but nobody made a move to defend me.
I was ready to pass out from dizziness when I hear pounding feet run towards us but I keep my eyes closed.
"Dude, did you just touch my Sister?" The voice sounded out of breath and angry, a voice I had heard so many times.
Denzel.
"Yeah and I'll be happy to do the same to you," Dylan threatened.
He wasn't this vicious. What happened to him? This isn't my Dylan.
"I'd like to see you try." My eyes were closed but I still know that Denzel must be grinding his teeth like he does before making a move on somebody.
I'm not sure who swung the first punch but I heard the sound of bones crunching.
Leighanne runs to my side and sits me up asking if I am alright. I don't answer; my mind is too busy pondering about one thing:
Dylan's eyes were dangerously green, just like Prince's.
"Move! Move aside!" The deep voice comes from Coach as he pushes several students to a side making his way to the front. He lets out a series of swear words and pulls Denzel harshly off Dylan.
He blows his whistle,"Go away all of you! If you're not gone in five seconds I'll make you all clear up the P.E shed!"
The crowd goes as quickly as it came. Coach then turns to the boys who are no longer fighting but are breathing heavily and giving each other dirty looks.
"What are you stupid, Denzel? Scouts are at this game, you know that!" Coach paces back and forth between the two boys.
Denzel winced almost as if the words hurt him and Coach swore under his breath contemplating what to do.
He came to the conclusion that Denzel would be benched.
My head was dizzy with pain and guilt, on his first match, he wouldn't even play.
Because of me.
Leighanne pulled me to our seats but my eyes were glued to Denzel's devastated face. For obvious reasons, I wasn't in the mood to watch the match anymore. Nicholas Peterson took Denzel's place but he had two left feet and bad coordination. The lack of 'School Spirit' rubbed off on the players.
They lost that match.
