[ORIGINAL CHAPTER]
Hello, Decker, Caitlin I'm 22 years old. I work as a police officer with the London Police Department (LPD). I was born and raised in Los Angeles, but moved to London after being offered a promotion. It gave me the opportunity to broaden my horizons and get away from the drama back home, but I quickly realised that I would find it here as well.
I worked late tonight to attempt to catch up on my case paperwork that had piled up, and I eventually completed and packed up my belongings before heading home because it was late. My Squad car was being repaired after a collision with a car following a chase, so I booked a cab to take me home.
As I was currently sat in the cab until it pulled up outside my apartment so I opened the door grabbing my bag that was beside me on the other seat before passing the driver a £10 from my purse. "Keep the change" I said with a small smile on my face as I head towards the apartment before heading up the stairs of the apartment building before I reach the door of Cals apartment.
As I approached Cals apartment, I dug into my pocket and pulled out my door keys, then opened the door and walked inside before closing it behind me. As I looked around, I wondered why it was so quiet because my boyfriend was supposed to be here tonight to watch the Totnum football game. "Cal," I said, hoping to hear a response, but there was none.
Cal was short for Callum, so I went to his room, figuring he could have dozed off because he worked long and exhausting shifts as a surgical resident at a nearby hospital. When I got to his room, I expected to find him sleeping, but instead I found my best friend in bed with my boyfriend, both of them naked, as I entered the room. They both jumped and tried to cover themselves up with the blanket. "What the fuck," I scream angrily, hurling a shoe at Cal.
"Caitlin Wait," Cal shouted as I turned around, tears streaming from my eyes and a look of rage on my face as I looked at him as I ran out of the room, grabbed my bag and coat and sprinting out of his apartment.
When I saw my best friend Molly getting dressed, she turned to face me and tried to make a sorry face, but how could you be sorry for something like this? The word sorry is used for something that is an accident, not sleeping with your best friend's boyfriend. He grabbed my arm as I tried to go, but I shoved it away.
"Please leave my life alone. I'm not interested in dealing with either of you "I scream angrily as I rush out of the flat and down the stairs as quickly as I can. I planned to get out of here as quickly as possible. I dashed home and slumped on the floor, thinking he was the love of my life, but he was only interested in getting into my best friend's pants.
Then I noticed something out of the corner of my eye, so I got up and grabbed the framed picture off my tv stand. It was a picture of me and my sister Chloe, who lived in LA and was a cop as well. She was the best, and I always wanted to make her proud, so I joined the force as well.
Our father was a cop as well, but he died when I was a small child, so I don't recall much about him. I was told stories about him by my mother, as well as what my sister remembered of him.
I swiftly grab my phone from behind me and go to my contacts before selecting my sister's contact and dialling her number. I then placed the phone to my ear and waited for her to respond. I knew there was a chance she wouldn't because the time difference between London and LA was significant.
I'm waiting for her to answer, and because of the long wait, I can feel my heartbeat in my chest. After a time, I hear a person on the other end of the phone say, "hey, who is this?" "Chloe," I say, sounding pleased.
"How are you Cait, it's been ages," she said, sounding pleased "I've missed you too," she said, sounding joyful "how are you Trixi and dan," I said, sounding noisy "it's just me and Trixi," she said, and the tone became silent for a time till we spoke." Which confused me because she had married Dan, the father of Trixi, which led me to suspect that something had transpired between them that she hadn't told me about.
"Did he abandon you or is there something more I need to do?" "No were separated?" I say as I hear a chuckle from the phone, which makes me smile. "Chlo, I'm so sorry?" Chloe said, which irritated me because we were sisters and she didn't think to tell me. I didn't tell her I was annoyed; instead, I said, "Chlo, I'm so sorry?" "It's fine," I said, trying to lighten the mood a little. "But why did you call me?" Chloe said, a little sarcastically?.
"Nothing," I muttered, attempting to disguise my emotions from her, "you're a liar," Chloe said she'd always been able to tell when I was lying since she was a child, it was her superpower, and she was probably the only one who could. "I'd better get going," I said, eager to end the conversation. "Bye," Chloe said, concerned for my safety, before I quickly cut the call and placed my phone on the bed beside me.
Later, I got out of bed and went to my room's closet, where I reached up and lifted down my luggage, which I hadn't used in a long time. Once I had it down, I started stuffing my belongings into it as quickly as I could. I didn't have much, so it was easier to pack.
When I was finished, I leaned it against the wall and returned to my bed, where I grabbed my laptop and opened it before going through my emails. And I started writing my resignation letter to my boss because I couldn't stay in London any longer because it reminded me of memories I didn't want to remember. LA had bad memories as well, but at least my family was there, which was exactly what I needed right now.
I expressed all of my emotions and the scenario in an email to my boss, hoping that he would understand my situation and allow me to leave the police force, despite the fact that he had previously described me as his best police detective. My eyes were full of tears as I completed typing the email, which I wiped away with the sleeve of my sweater.
I knew I'd miss my fellow police officers, detectives and friends, yet I pressed the send button and started wiping away my tears. Before going to the LAPD website and searching till I discovered an application page, I smiled because I was excited to meet my family again.
