Silas woke with a gasp of breath and sat up quickly where he lay. Pain shot through him like a tidal wave and he grimaced, hugging his sides with a shiver."Whoa whoa. Take it easy big guy. You're okay. You're okay. You're in the hospital." Silas' eyes adjusted to the bright light and he made eye contact with a woman standing near him, she appeared to be a nurse. She smiled at him and pressed some buttons on a machine beside the bed.
"Just lie back down and relax. I'll speak to you in a moment." She said concentrating on her task. Silas nodded lied back against the pillow on the bed, it was much fluffier than the one he had at home. It was like lying his head on a cloud. The pain inside him flared as he moved, but subsided to a dull ache once he held still. "Thank you.." He rasped. The nurse didn't acknowledge his comment besides a slight nod of her head. Silas closed his eyes deciding she couldn't hear him or was too focused on whatever she was doing.
I'm in the hospital. That means someone found me and.. Oh no who found me? Oh Gods what if it was one of the- Pained flared in his chest again making him clench his eyes shut and groan. The nurse sighed sadly and adjusted his blanket, pulling it back over him. "You are a really lucky kid. If that girl hadn't found you when she did.. You wouldn't have made it here in time. You're already looking so much better." The nurse said in a soft gentle voice, like any raised vowels or syllables might shatter him. Silas opened his eyes as he listened to her.
"That's why you need to take it easy. You're covered in third and second degree burns. Not to mention you were stabbed with something. Something very sharp I might add." She said with a frown. Silas nodded and furrowed his brows together. "Y..yeah that kind of hurt." He said with a light chuckle. The nurse brightened as he spoke. "You're a pretty tough kid... Silas right? Most people wouldn't be able to talk yet. After an experience like you've been through some might not for weeks. I'm glad you are though. It means you're recovering at an excellent rate."
Silas nodded and tried adjusting himself in the bed, earning a new wave of pain in return for his efforts. "W..who found me?" He asked curiously, his voice growing a bit stronger. The nurse smiled brightly and straightened her back. "Would you like to see her? She's been asking about you for hours. She's just outside in the waiting room." Silas nodded and the nurse walked out of the room, pulling a set of green curtains shut. Silas sighed and waited impatiently, hearing the door open and close shut far slower than he would have liked.
He reached for the t.v remote sitting next to him on a short table. Silas frowned upon finding it was just out of his reach. "Oh come on.." He growled to himself and leaned back with a sigh. One...two...THREE! SIlas counted in his head, he shot sideways a second later snagging the side of the remote with his finger tips. "Gotcha! Wait no no no gah!" The remote twirled in a circle before it fell on the floor with a loud clap of plastic. The remote's batteries popped out from the impact and rolled away under his bed out of sight. The silence that followed only interrupted by the small beeps from the machine reading Silas' vitals.
Silas groaned and shuddered with renewed pain, lying his head back again. I didn't need to watch t.v. anyways. Even inanimate objects want to screw me over. He thought bitterly and breathed slowly as he could manage. After forcing himself to relax, Silas realized the nurse had been gone a good few minutes. Didn't she say the room was close by? She should be back by now. Is something wrong out there? He wondered and shifted trying to get into a more comfortable position. He fingered the bandages on his chest and frowned to himself in thought.
I hate bandages.. These better be coming off soon. Silas dropped his hands into his lap and sighed letting his gaze rest on the ceiling above him.The door to the room opened again with a sharp click. "He's right in there sweetie. Be gentle, and talk slowly. He's still shaking off the medicine. I'll be in to check on you in a little while." The door closed shut and there was the sound of footsteps behind the curtain as the person approached. Silas frowned again. I don't like that the nurse is letting some stranger visit me alone.. something's up. He thought suspiciously.
The curtain parted to the side and a girl stepped into view. Her clothes were soaked from the melted snow. Her bright blue eyes had rings under them as if she hadn't slept in days. She threw back her hood revealing her flowing dark brown hair. Her eyes twinkled and she glanced over him in a similar fashion to how he was studying her. Why does she look so familiar... She looks so much like..Wait it can't be. "Ashlynn?" He gasped trying to sit up. The girl smiled and nodded to him. "Hey Silas. It's been a while."
Silas couldn't believe it. He hadn't seen another angel since he'd been banished so many years before. "How did you... why?" He started but she walked over and put a finger to his lips and shook her head. "Not here." She said softly looking around carefully. Silas frowned, his foggy mind leaving him confused by her actions. "But there's no camer-" Ashlynn covered his mouth and rolled her eyes.
"It's not the humans I'm worried about dipstick." She said softly looking back to him. Silas fell silent for a moment, then met her eyes and nodded with understanding. "Got it." He said, his voice muffled by her hand. Ashlynn removed her hand from his mouth and sighed wiping it off on her jeans. "I've got to get you out of here." She muttered almost to herself. Silas shook his head. "No. You don't. I can handle myself. You shouldn't even be here." He said defensively.
Ashlynn glared at him. "I'm getting you out of here. You can't stay or they'll find out about you." She repeated grabbing his wrist. Silas' eyes widened. "Don't you dar-" She tugged out his ivy making him bite his tongue to hold in a yelp of pain. She smiled at him cruelly and made him sit up. "See? That wasn't so bad." She said with hint of light sarcasm. Silas grimaced with pain and mumbled under his breath. "I can't heal this Ashlynn.. You're only making it worse."
Her eyes widened for a moment, but she continued unplugging things from him and the machine and pulled his blanket off. "You'll be fine Silas just get up an-" Silas grabbed her arm weakly and she stopped, looking at him helplessly. He shook his head and smiled sadly. "I know you mean well. But I can't. My magic... it's gone now." Ashlynn's gaze softened. "Silas..." She started then paused. "It might just be a faze." She tried. "Or you might've just been to tired?"
Silas shook his head and grinned a bit at her attempts to defend him from himself. "No... my powers are gone. I've got.. I've got nothing left." He said, his voice growing ragged and strained. Ashlynn shook her head in disbelief. "How did you end up this way Silas? You were so strong. Everyone was always so jealous of you." She whispered tears welling in her eyes. Silas smiled slightly and lied back on the light fluffy pillow as the pain returned to his body full force. The medicine quickly wearing off.
"I made a choice. I'm just.. I'm dealing with the conse...consequences..." He gasped gripping his middle with his hands. Tears dripped down Ashlynn's face as she tried pulling him back up. "Come on Silas. You're stronger than this. Just get up." She cried. Silas grimaced as the medicine faded away completely from his system. "I may have been before. But now.. I'm sorry." He whispered weakly.
The door opened and the nurse walked in. "I'm sorry dear. Visiting hours are over." She said with a sad smile as she peeked through the curtains. Ashlynn turned and Silas watched her go up to the nurse. "You're right but he's coming with me." Ashlynn said firmly. The nurse's eyes closed halfway. Her dazed face breaking into a smile. "He's going with you.." She murmured and smiled wider than was natural..
Ashlynn nodded and laced her words with more magic. "You should help us. Go get his forms and I'll sign him out." She said calmly. The nurse looked at her patient and frowned. "But his parents haven't.." Ashlynn noticed the change in the nurse's tone. Her sense of responsibility over powering her magic. She walked over and touched the nurse's forehead with her hand, whispering to her quietly as she added more magic. "Do it now. He'll be alright." She said gently.
The nurse nodded slowly, and with a puzzled expression on her face, walked out of the room without any hesitation. Ashlynn sighed and turned to Silas. "I'm going. And you're coming with me. Even if I have to carry you." She said walking back to him. Silas shook his head and grimaced again. "J..just go Ash. You're not supposed to even be in contact with me. Gabriel said..he...he..warned.."
"Gabriel doesn't have to know anything. Now come on!" Ashlynn said grabbing his arm. Silas flinched but sat up swinging his legs over the side of the bed. Ashlynn took his hand and helped him to his feet. He sagged in her grip so she put his arm over her shoulder, doing her best to keep him standing. "You know you're a lot heavier than you look." She said with a grunt. Silas smiled a bit sheepishly and tried to take a step forward.
Pain instantly shot through him, causing his vision to darken in the corners of his eyes. "Gods..it hurts.." He gasped clutching his chest with his free hand. Ashlynn caught him before he stumbled and leaned more of his weight on herself. "Just hang in there okay?" She said encouragingly. "Don't be a baby." Silas only wheezed in return as an answer. They walked out of the room and down a red painted hallway. The color reminding Silas far too much of the blood seeping out of him currently.
Nurses passed by them on either side, some giving them weird or odd looks. "They're onto us.." Silas said, his voice barely above a whisper. Ashlynn glanced at them and led him down another hallway towards a stairway, but at the end of the hallway a group of people appeared. "The patient is right down here." A doctor said as he stepped around the corner. Two worried looking people right behind him. Perhaps the parents of another patient at the hospital.
The group stopped in their tracks and looked at the two angels in surprise. "Excuse me but what are you doing with him?" The doctor asked pointing to Silas, his eyes wide. Ashlynn cursed under her breath and pulled Silas closer to herself. "Dormi!" She shouted at them. The three dropped in a heap. Loud audible snores marking what she had done to them. Silas continued to stumble along as Ashlynn pulled him to the nearest staircase. Ashlynn glanced at him and shook her head.
"There's no way you'll make it down those. We're three flights up." She said. Silas nodded in agreement, his vision darkening even more than before.. "Y..yeah." Ashlynn led him over to the elevators and pressed the button. "Come on. Come on. Come on." She said to herself, willing the elevators to hurry and get up to them. Silas coughed weakly in his fist, losing his remaining vision completely to the overwhelming black that ha seeped back into it. "Ashlynn.. I..I'm not going to make it.."
"Shh!" Ashlynn said, the desperation evident in her voice. "You're going to be fine. Just hold on." The left elevator rang with a small chime. Ashlynn smiled and led Silas over to it. "See? Things are looking up already." She said quietly holding him up as best she could. Silas groaned and he heard Ashlynn mutter something under her breath.
The elevator doors opened wide and Ashlynn stepped forward immediately running into a person who happend to be getting off of it at the same. The girl inside stumbled back and caught herself on a the elevator rail before she fell. "Oh my gosh I am so sorry. I was in a rush and.." She said looking up but stopped as she saw who she had run into. She stepped out of the elevator and then gasped as she saw Silas' dazed look.
"Who are you and what are you doing with Silas?" She demanded. Ashlynn frowned at the girl not recognizing her. "You know him?" She asked. Silas opened his eyes trying to see her and reached out to her. The soft tone of her voice easily recognized by him. "L..Lilly.." He murmured weakly before collapsing onto the tile floor, the familiar darkness claiming him a second time.
