Elizabeth's POV
I'm walking out to my truck parked behind Bella's when I hear someone calling my name. I turn around and see Bella walking up behind me. "Hey," I say to her in a monotone voice. "Hey." She says in a nervous voice.
We make our way by her truck and start talking. "Listen, Liz, I'm sorry I've been really distant these last few days. It's just I'm trying to branch out and make new friends and be sociable." "So am I, but it seems like my friends are too 'weird' for you." "No that's not it Liz. I just don't like Edward. Jasper seems nice from what you tell me about him though."
I look behind Bella to see Jasper and Edward looking intently at us like they're trying to listen in on our conversation. Which is impossible considering they're across the lot. Jasper looks intently into my eyes. Suddenly we hear screeching of tires and we look up at the last minute to see a van speeding towards us.
Bella pushes me out of the way and all of a sudden I'm being carried and in the blink of an eye, I'm in the forest. I look at who was holding me and it was Jasper. My eyes widen in realization.
Jasper's POV
Edward and I walk down the stairs and to his car right next to the stairs and the front doors. I look over at El and notice that she looks irritated talking to Bella. Edward and I start listening in on what they're talking about.
Suddenly we hear high pitched screeching. We turn our attention away from the girls and look to the sound. Tyler's van came speeding into view. He can't stop and he is headed to the girls.
I'm the first to act. I run up to their cars just as Bella pushes Elizabeth out of the way. I grab her and run to the forest outlining the school property. I stop in a clearing and set her down.
Elizabeth's POV
Jasper gently puts me down on the ground so I'm standing facing him with his arms still around my body.
"How the hell did you do that?" I ask, my voice dripping with confusion and a little anger. "Don't get mad, please?" He pleads. I nod a little hesitant. "I'm a vampire. I won't hurt you and yes the rest of my family are vampires too. I understand if you want nothing to do with me although I'd be very hurt because you're my mate, but I'd still understand and respect your decision." Then he looks down, finding the forest floor much more interesting.
I'm a little shocked, but I don't want to lose him. Truth is, I'm in love with him and I don't think for a second that I would be able to live without him. I take my hand and put it under his chin, gently lifting his head to look at me. "I don't believe you would ever hurt me. I love you and your family and I wouldn't ever want to be apart from you. I'm glad I'm your mate because I can't see myself loving anyone else the way I love you."
I lean upward and he leans down and we share a slow and passionate kiss. What feels like an eternity we slowly pull apart and lean our foreheads against each other. We stay like that for a while then we hear ambulance sirens and I then know we aren't that far from the school. I feel like I'm forgetting something..... BELLA. I snap out of my trance and say "I have to get to my sister." I say in a panicky voice.
Jasper nods immediately and picks me up and he runs at an inhuman speed back to the outline of the trees he sets me down gently and I race over to the ambulance that is carrying my sister, Jasper not too far behind, and speak to the paramedic.
"Can I ride in with her? She's my sister." She nods and I turn around and Jasper's standing there. "I'll meet you at the hospital. You should get checked out too. Just in case I didn't get to you in time." I reluctantly nod, quickly hug him and get in the ambulance next to my sister.
She's sitting upright and isn't nauseous, that's a good sign, right? "You ok sis?" I ask, my voice coded with worry.
She looks at me and smiles. "Yea I'm fine. Are you ok? I didn't get a chance to see where you landed after I pushed you out of the way." "Yes, I'm fine. Just shaken up." She nods lightly and looks down. Her eyes widen.
I look at what she's looking at and notice a gash on my left leg. I look at Bella as she looks back up at me as horror took over her features. "Bella, stay calm. I'm fine. It doesn't hurt. Yes, I'll get it bandaged up at the hospital." She nods reluctantly and she leans her head on my shoulder as we ride to the hospital.
The ambulance pulls into the hospital parking lot and we get out and head inside. A nurse takes us to a room where Tyler, the one that had been driving the van that hit us, already is. She leads us over to the bed on the other side of the curtain that divides the room.
Bella hops up on the bed first then I follow suit. A nurse comes over to me with gauze, scissors, a bowl of water, a washcloth and medical tape. She fixes me up and tells me it should heal within a week and that I'd have a minor limp for that long.
Suddenly the door is roughly forced open and in comes Charlie looking frantically around the room for us. Once he spots us he rushes over immediately.
"Bella. Lizzy. Are you two ok?" He looks over to Tyler and says, "You and I are gonna talk!" Then he looks back at us and asks, "Are you two alright?"
I speak first, "Yea we're alright dad. I just got a cut on my leg it's not a big deal. And no I didn't get it from him. Bella pushed me out of the way and I scraped my leg on the pavement. Jasper helped me get up and he sat me on the hood of my truck to get me out of harm's way." I lie. Thankfully they both bought it.
"Well, I'm glad you two are safe."
"I'm so sorry Lizzy. Bella. I tried to stop." Tyler apologized. "We know it's ok Tyler," I said. Bella says, "Yea it's ok." "No, it sure as hell is not ok." I've had enough of this "Dad it wasn't his fault." I say in an aggravated tone. "You both could've been killed. You 2 understand that?" Bella chimes in, "Yea, but we weren't so...."
"You can kiss your license goodbye." Suddenly the doors open again and a man in his mid to late 40s walks in.
"I heard the chief's daughters were in." He says with an amused smile. "Hi, Dr. Cullen," Dad says. So this is Jasper's adoptive father. "Charlie." Dr. Cullen says. "I got this one Jackie." He says as he relieves the nurse that was attending to us. "Isabella and Elizabeth." "It's just Bella and Liz." Bella states.
"Well, Bella and Liz you both took quite a spill how do you both feel?" He asks. "Good." Bella says first. "Pretty good considering the fact that my leg hurts." He smiles slightly and says "Look here." To Bella, as he shines one of those doctor lights in her eyes checking our vital signs, then does the same with me.
"You both might experience some post-traumatic stress disorientation, but both your vitals look good. No signs of any head trauma on either of you. I think you'll both be just fine." He says while smiling at us. "I'm so sorry Bella, Liz. I'm really-"
He doesn't get the chance to finish as Charlie pulls the curtain closed. "It would've been a lot worse if Edward wasn't there. He knocked me out of the way." I grab Bella's arm and look at her wide-eyed.
She gives me the 'not right now' look and continues looking at Dr. Cullen. "Edward. Your boy?" Dad asks. "Yea it was amazing. I mean he got to me so fast, he was nowhere near me." "Sounds like you were very lucky. Charlie." He states nodding to my dad as he leaves. "Hey, dad I'm gonna go see Jasper. He was driving behind us and told me he'd meet me here." "Ok. I've gotta finish filling out some paperwork anyway so let's get out of here so I can do that."
Then with a curt nod from me, Bella and I jump off the bed and grab our stuff and make our way out the doors that we came in less than an hour ago. Once we're out of the room dad stops us. "You both should probably call your mother."
My eyes widen. "You told her?" I ask panic spreading through my body. He shrugs his shoulders. "Ugh, she's probably gonna-she's probably just freaking out," Bella says as she pulls out her phone. Bella starts walking away. "Ok well, I'm gonna go find Jasper," I say as I start walking in the direction of the parking lot.
Once I get out there I see Jasper leaned up against his Jeep and he's looking at me. A smile comes across my face as he starts walking towards me. Once he's standing in front of me he wraps his arms around my waist and pulls me into his chest. I snake my arms around his neck.
We stand like that for several minutes in silence before he asks, "How's your leg?" I pull away from him slightly. "How'd you-?" I start to ask when he interrupts me and says bluntly. "I smelled the blood when we were in the forest. That's why I told you to get checked out."
"Are you ok? That wasn't hard for you?" I ask worried for Jasper's sake. "I'm ok. It was hard, but I kept the fact that I would hurt you in my mind and that helped me control the thirst." I wrap my arms back around his neck as he pulls me closer to his body.
"I'm sorry," I say almost in a quiet whisper. He pulls me away from him so he can look at me. He cups my cheeks with his perfect hands. "You have absolutely nothing to be sorry about El." Then he kisses the top of my head. I smile lightly showing my dimples.
Jasper smiles back at me. I feel so happy. Jasper looks into my eyes and I see his gaze flicker to my lips for a second and he starts to lean in. I don't realize, but I start to lean in too.
