Chapter One - How many sisters do you have?!
I glanced around at my surroundings, which were slightly familiar but I also hadn’t been in this town since the fire, so I could be going in circles. As soon as my eyes landed on the burnt scraps of the Hale house, deep down I felt guilt but now I knew I was in the right place.
“Is that..” I trailed off, “Derek?”
The young fifteen year old Derek form glanced up at me, and jumped to his feet. I ran over to him, glancing at him up and down, and up and down again, “Have you been time traveling, perhaps.. Swimming in any fountain of youth?”
“Cassandra?” He asks, tears welling up in his eyes, “What happened to our home?”
“Uh,” I started, not sure what I should tell him. Should I spill the truth that our entire family is dead and I am lucky to be alive. Suddenly, saving me slightly, a sheriff van pulls into the place.
“Excuse me, young man and woman,” A deputy calls out to us.
“You’re calling them young man and women?” Another deputy scoffs, making me smirk.
“I’m sorry, but you can’t be here,” The first deputy says.
“Hey, dumb asses, ever here of ‘no trespassing?’” The second, rude, deputy questions. I scowl at him, putting a hand on Derek’s shoulder.
“This is our house..” Derek says calmly.
I shook my head at the deputies, “I’m sorry, it was our house.”
“Nobody has been here for years, kid,” The second deputy says. “Now get the hell outta here.”
Derek glanced up at me with fear in his eyes and I frowned.
“Hey, maybe a slightly gentler touch,” The first deputy suggests. “Are you alright? We can help you if something’s wrong.”
“What happened to my house?” Derek questions, looking up at me, “Where’s our family? Where’s our mother? Cass?”
“Let’s go, now,” The second deputy says, grabbing ahold of Derek’s arm. Derek angrily turned around and twisted his wrist, and I pulled him back against me, but Derek still had ahold of the deputy’s wrist.
“Hold on! Just take it easy!” The first deputy says, desperately.
“Derek!” I shouted, but it was too late. The guy had already brought out the tazers and and tazed us. I yelled out in pain and squeezed my eyes shut in order not to change into wolf form.
-
I sat in the police station on a bench with my hands cuffed, letting out an annoyed sigh every five seconds. Derek kept asking me about our family and our house, and I wouldn’t answer. I don’t even know what happened to him.. Why was he in fifteen year old form?
“The other deputy thinks I’m an idiot for even asking.. But I have a feeling if I take these cuffs off, you’re going to be okay? And I think you can help us figure out what happened to your family so we can get you out of here,” The deputy says, and I read his thing that says ‘Parrish’.
Derek nods slowly, and Parrish reaches over and uncuffs us both. I sighed with relief and ran a hand through my hair. Derek glanced down at Parrish and says, “The other deputy is the idiot.”
I chuckled as Parrish says, “I can’t argue with that.”
“Parrish, get over here,” The second deputy says, nodding his head over to his computer. Parrish stands and walks over to the computer, and glances at it. “I’ve run these kids’ prints eight times, for both of them, and this is all I could get.”
“Derek and Cassandra.. Hale?” Parrish questions, making the Sheriff stand from his desk and walk over. They all three stared at the pictures, and that’s when I realized they probably have my 9 year old picture and Derek’s older version picture. Great.
“Did you say Hale?” Sherriff asks, taking a long look at the computer screen. My heart beat must be going crazy right now at the fact that Derek might be about to find out about our family.
The sheriff glances from the pictures, to us, then back again. He squints his eyes and gets really close to us, bending down on his knees. Derek gives him a confused look while I sheepishly grin.
Suddenly, two really cute teenage boys run through the doors, and look at the two of us. They glance at Derek and I, and back to the sheriff, and drag him out of the room. “They’re really cute,” I whisper in Derek’s ear, and he raised his eyebrows at me, “Really, Cass?”
“Why would we go anywhere with you?” Derek questions.
“Because they’re hot,” I shrug.
“Cass, shut up,” Derek glares at me. I smirk and throw my arm around him, “Well, now, I’m a year older than you.”
“Who even are you?” The sheriff’s son questions.
“Cassandra Hale, Derek’s sister, that survived the- I mean, um, yeah, visiting town,” I stutter, but they already know what I was going to say. (Besides Derek.)
“There was an accident..” Scott- yes, he introduced himself- trails off, and I glare at him. “You lost some memory, but we can help you get it back.”
“How much memory?” Derek questions.
“A lot,” I chuckle.
“You can trust us,” Scott says.
Scott bends down to our level, and when he looks back up at us, his eyes are bright red. He was an alpha. “You’re an alpha,” I confirm.
“Okay, who are you?” Derek questions. “And who’s he, who are you?”
“We’re the guys keeping you out of jail,” The sheriff’s son says.
“Let us help you, Derek,” Scott says.
“No,” Derek says firmly.
“Okay, dude, you almost tore apart two cops back there. You need to listen to us, no fangs, no claws, no wolfman or wolfs girl, you got that?” The sheriff son says.
“Okay just who the heck do you-”
“I’m fine as long as it’s not a full moon,” Derek says, as my eyes glow bright blue. “Wait.. Cassandra.. Why are your eyes blue?”
“I-I- unm,” I changed my eyes back to their normal green, a worried look etched across my face, “Oh god.”
“You still have trouble with the full moon?” Scott questions, turning it back to the original conversation to save my butt.
“I said I’m fine,” Derek sighs.
“Alright, so are you coming with us or not?” The sheriff’s son questions.
“You want me to trust you?” Derek questions.
“I think that’s what they want, Dere,” I sigh.
“Cass, where’s our family?”
I sigh, grabbing Derek’s hand tightly in mine. I glance at Scott and the other kid, and they give small sympathetic looks. “Dere.. There was a fire.. And..”
The look on Derek’s face made me want to cry. I never cry.
“They’re not here anymore, they’re fine,” Scott says, cutting me off. I yank my head around and give him a bewildered look. “They just aren’t in Beacon Hills. We’re going to take you to them, as soon as we figure out how to get your memory back.”
-
“I shouldn’t have done that, I lied my ass off,” Scott sighs.
“You’re ass is fine,” The sheriff’s kid says.
“Are you two gay or something? And Scott, what the hell were you thinking? What am I going to tell him when he figures out.. Oh my god..”
“No, we’re not gay. And second of all, how many sisters does Derek have?!”
“Laura, Cora, me,” I say, “He had three sisters.”
“Do you know what happened to Laura and Cora?” Scott questions.
“Cora and I escaped together and went to South America, before I left, I got an alpha to take her memory of me being alive from her, I couldn’t have her follow me,” I say. “Peter killed Laura, and the alpha stuff and he bit you and Derek killed him and now he’s back. I know. I had visions,”
“Visions?” Scott asks.
“Yeah, I can see things about family when they happen, it’s weird,” I say, “but it’s rare. That’s why I didn’t know Derek was mini-Derek again.”
“Hey, we saved him a ton of unnecessary pain,” The sheriff’s kid says, I think his name is Stiles. “We figure out this in a day or two, he goes back to being normal Derek, and everyone’s happy. Except for Derek.. Who’s never happy.”
“Haha,” I say sarcastically.
“He’s just another person that we’re lying to. I just always feel like it’s better when we’re telling the truth. With Lydia, my mom, your dad,” Scott says.
“But that is Derek Hale in there. He may be a kid right now but he’s still Derek Hale, Scott,” Stiles sighs, motioning towards Derek, whose talking to the deputy that tazed us.
“You two, bring him to my house and don’t let him out of your sight,” Scott says.
“Andd where are you going?” I questioned.
“I am going to the guy we should have talked to before..” Scott trails off.
“Yeah, I hate that guy!” Stiles calls out to him.
“What guy?” I ask.
“Peter,” Stiles sighs, glancing at me.
-
“Nice car,” I grin, admiring his jeep.
“Finally, someone who likes my jeep!” Stiles shouts, about to give me a fist pump, but I shook my head and spread him hand out that way I could give him a high five instead.
-
“We’re just going to wait here for Scott, we’re going to sit quietly, and we’re not going to call or talk to anyone!” Stiles says seriously, making me chuckle.
“Can I talk to you?” Derek asks.
“No,”
“Good,”
“Fine!”
“Can we talk to him?” I question, looking at the very tall man that quiet resembles Scott’s father figure.
“Arw, hm, ugh, are you getting taller?” Stiles questions, moving his hands around. I grab his hands and put them down, glaring at him since he almost hit me in my face.
“What are you guys doing here?” Scott’s dad questions.
“Waiting for Scott,” Derek answers.
“Yeah, so am I, we’re supposed to have dinner. I bought extra, you guys hungry?” He asks.
“Yeah!” Derek and I exclaim in unison. “No,” Stiles says as well.
“No, we’re not hungry,” Stiles answers.
“Yeah we are, we’re starving,” Derek glares.
“Nah, nope, none of us are hungry, thanks, though.”
“Okay? Well, if you’re not hungry, Stiles, your friends can still eat with us. What are your names?”
“I’m-” I started, but Stiles cut us both off.
“This is Miguel and this is Sophia, they’re my cousins, from.. From Mexico,” Stiles says, wrapping his arm around us. I grin and chuckle a bit and Derek sarcastically smiles.
“Est sto da no logigo, Miguel, Sophia,” His dad speaks in Spanish.
“Oh my god,” Stiles says very quietly.
“No sueva te do ole la snookay pasa e moto ie,” I say back, in Spanish.
“Si,” Derek nods.
“Fantastic, egg roll?”
"Hell yeah,” I nod, grabbing Derek’s arm.
“Hah! Hah.. Hah.. Fantastic! Eggroll!” Stiles splutters, a large grin on his face. I wink and grab an egg roll, walking to the table.
