Buzz. Buzz.
"Ugh," Owen groaned as he rolled off of his fiancé in the On-Call room. They'd luckily just finished round two when Owen's alarm went off.
Buzz. Buzz.
A long muscular arm seeped out of the covers and smashed the alarm away. Owen pecked Amelia's lips once more before getting off of the small cot and pulling on his brief boxers and scrub pants. "So, is all forgiven?" he asked, pulling on his undershirt. Amelia shrugged, lying naked and breathless under the sheets.
"Most. I forgive you for the Teddy thing. I don't forgive you for that tongue thing you did. That was...yeah," she giggled. Owen smiled and pulled on his scrub top and nodded.
"Okay," he chuckled, "is there anything I should know before I go?" Owen baited. Amelia shrugged and shook her head.
"Nope," she smirked, lying back with her hands over her head. Owen stared at the silhouette of his fiancé draped in the cotton sheets. The light from the outside world fluttered into the room and cascaded itself around Amelia's small frame. When Amelia started to turn on her side, for a split second Owen saw her small bump peek through. To anyone unaware, it looks like Amelia drank a lot of water. But, to Owen, an Amelia savant, her skin was glowing, she was a little bit sleepier in the mornings, and of course being a guy, he had noticed that her boobs were a little bit bigger than before. He just couldn't put his finger on why. However, now that he knew why, he felt like her "baby bump" was radiating through the sheets. "What?" Amelia asked, with a giggle. Owen shook his head and finished getting dressed.
"Nothing. Nothing. I'll see you later. I love you," Owen smiled, pecking Amelia's lips.
"I love you, too. Have a good surgery," Amelia smiled, lying back down and watching Owen leave. She didn't have anything to do for another fifteen minutes and sleep was calling her name. But, so was Teddy. Amelia grabbed her cell phone and turned off the notifications. "What does she want?" Amelia muttered. Quickly, she got up and dressed to go find her temporary boss.
1:06 PM
Teddy sat at her desk reading emails. She didn't spend much time in the O.R., now that she was interim chief, leaving time for really anything. Like fishing...for cases...for her ex and his fiancé. And she found the first one for Amelia. After a few short moments of waiting, Amelia stumbled into the room.
"Sorry, tripped," she said, shutting the door behind her and standing in front of the wooden desk. "What's up?" she asked. Teddy scratched her head nervously and shrugged.
"Well, I know that you don't necessarily need me to help you get patients, but I saw a case coming to Seattle Pres that I figured you might want a crack at first," Teddy smiled, handing Amelia the scans. In the light, Amelia could see that the tumor stretched from the olfactory nerve to the prefrontal cortex. Amelia gave her superior a puppy dog face attached to a small smile.
"Awe, Teddy, you got me an olfactory groove meningioma? You're sweet," Amelia grinned, admiring the tumor in her hands.
"It's kind of an 'I'm sorry you're in the middle of all of this' present," Teddy smiled, confident that she and Amelia would be just fine.
"Are you trying to buy an apology acceptance?" Amelia asked, pretending to be upset. Teddy's smile dropped as she shook her head. Amelia watched Teddy's brain frantically look for an excuse, causing her to giggle. "I'm kidding. It's working. Thanks," Amelia said. Teddy exhaled quickly, placing the smile back on her face as she looked back at her laptop. While printing out some paperwork and the patient's medical records, a huge thud caused Teddy to look up from her desk. She quickly stood up to see Amelia sitting on the floor clutching her lower abdomen. "Dr. Shepherd?" Teddy called. Amelia took a deep breath but didn't respond, forcing Teddy to move around the desk in front of her. "Amelia?" Teddy called once more. Amelia bit her lip as she tried to catch her breath, but nothing was working. The pain was intensifying and she could barely keep up. "Where does it hurt?" Teddy asked.
"R-R-Robbins, call Robbins," she managed to stutter through the pain. Teddy quickly paged Robbins and ran to the hall to look for literally anyone.
"I need help in here!" she yelled, before rushing back to her co-worker with a team of nurses and doctors not far behind.
1:22 PM
Owen stood in the scrub room, finishing up from his quick procedure when April barged in. "What are you doing in here?" she rushed. Owen looked at her weird. "You didn't hear? Amelia's being admitted," April announced. Owen stared at her for a split second, before following her in a sprint towards Amelia's room. On appearance, Owen stopped in his tracks seeing Arizona doing an ultrasound and Teddy in the corner chair.
"Mia?" Owen whispered, catching Amelia's attention. "What's going on?" he asked, rushing to her bedside. Arizona clicked a few buttons on her equipment, trying her best to get a good look at the fetus. Amelia stayed silent as the pain remained engulfed in her abdomen. "Arizona! What's going on?" Owen yelled, unsure of why no one was answering.
"Owen, stand down!" Teddy forcefully ordered. Owen huffed and clench the fabric of the bedding in his hands as he watched Arizona examine his fiancé. Silence blanketed the room as Arizona continued to work. She couldn't really see anything and knew for sure that wasn't good, but couldn't figure out why she couldn't see anything.
"Amelia, have you recently had sex?" Arizona asked as she moved the probe lower down to finally catch the babies heartbeat, causing enormous sighs of relief to flood the room. Amelia nodded while her tears of pain quickly mixed with peace, that her baby was still alive. "Okay, well your orgasm caused your uterus to contract which is why you're in pain, but I'm not sure why there is bleeding," Arizona started. After a few more seconds of watching, the fetal surgeons' diagnosis was clear as day. "Amelia, honey, you're bleeding into your uterus. April can you get the nurses to prep an OR for a placental abruption and a C just in case?" Arizona asked, quickly wiping Amelia's stomach off and moving the ultrasound machine out of the way to allow the nurses to prep Amelia. The frightened mother grabbed on to Owens' hand, desperate for some sort of comfort.
"A C? Did you just say a C? Did she just say a C?" Amelia freaked. Owen mean mugged Arizona until she, Teddy, and April left the two of them. "Owen, I can't lose another baby," Amelia cried. Owen scooted into the bed with her and brought her into his chest.
"Hey, don't think like that. We will have a strong and healthy baby. It may be now, it may be in the future, but all I care about is you being okay," Owen whispered in an attempt to encourage his fiancé not to lose hope. Amelia shook her head as more tears fell.
"It doesn't work like that. I have had eight weeks to bond with this baby, you've had eight minutes. Owen, I'm attached to this baby-"
"Amelia, I'm attached to you! We can have another baby. I can't have another you," Owen yelled. Amelia yelped, at his response. She'd never had him yell at her before in such an aggressive manner. Owen sensed her fear and sighed. He continued to stroke her hair and kiss her temple.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you right away," Amelia apologized almost inaudibly.
"Why didn't you," Owen calmly asked. Amelia shifted positions through the pain to look at him.
"I was scared. I was scared you would think we were moving too fast or that you didn't want a baby since we took in Leo and Betty. I know it was stupid, but I just couldn't," she answered partially honestly. Owen took a deep breath and cupped Amelia's cheeks using the pads of his thumbs to clear her tears.
"I don't think we're moving too fast, and I could never not want a baby with the love of my life no matter how many kids we have," he said causing them both to giggle.
"Can we cap the kids count at four for now?" Amelia giggled, making Owen nod with a grin. "Good, now before I go into surgery are there any other love children that may pop up when I get back?" Amelia asked, playfully. Owen hopped out of the bed as nurses came into the room to prep Amelia.
"Let me call Cristina and I'll get back to you," he joked. Amelia shot him a fake death glare, before lying back. The nurse started an IV to help with her pain and a handed Amelia the gown. Owen sat on the uncomfortable couch as Meredith barged in.
"Amelia! What's going on? April said you may need a C? You're only 13 weeks," Meredith freaked. Amelia nodded.
"Calm down. I have a placental abruption and I'm having contraction from the sex Owen and I had earlier. Arizona is going to try to fix it, but they may have to go a C if she can't. But as of right now the baby is okay. I, however, am bleeding into my uterus. But, I'll be okay," Amelia assured. Meredith whipped back towards Owen and shot her finger at him.
"You better hope that she doesn't lose this baby or that your boys can make a new one because so help me God. If I find out that Arizona had to do a C and you guys lose this baby I will murder you," Meredith protectively claimed. Owen held his hand up in surrender as Arizona came back in.
"Please save both of them," Owen begged as Meredith continued to death stare him. She slowly walked out of the room as Arizona helped wheel Amelia out of the room. "I'll be right here when you get back," Owen called as Amelia left his sight, down the hall. Somberly, Teddy walked back into the room to see Owen trying not to tear up on the couch. She sat next to him and before she could even get comfortable Owen dropped his head on her chest and wrapped his arms around her waist sobbing. "I can't lose her or the baby. Cause if I lose one I lose both," he whimpered. Teddy stroked his head and let him cry out his feelings, knowing that tough love wasn't the route for this moment. She also didn't mind the position knowing that this was probably the only time he would be this close to her again. You know what they say. One surgeons trauma is another surgeons playground. Right?
