Romes POV:
I narrowed my eyes at the throne, the object emitting dangerous power.
Power... that I wanted.
I took a step closer, as to see if there would be any repercussions.
Nothing.
Smiling to myself, I walked the whole walkway towards the throne. The dark room did not do any justice to the shining gold that decorated the heavenly chair. With every step, I reached closer and closer towards it. The throne smiled back at me, it was fashioned with ivory and covered with gold. The seat was set with precious stones that would've shone with the most brilliant gleam if the light of day ever hit them.
I mentally counted a total of sixteen more steps until I was at the seat. Perched on the armrest of the chair a golden lion lay, a matching golden lioness greeted it on the opposite side. My light eyes traveled down to the thrones leg to the gold that surrounded the velvet plush. Engraved on the lower legs, a golden wolf faced a golden bat. I mentally laughed at the irony of it. On the side, an intriguing... arch made of the purest gold, rose over it. Wrapped around the arch were three golden branches that all came together to form the back of the throne. By now I stood face to face with the exquisite masterpiece crafted in front of me.
"I would tell you to step back from the throne." I heard a voice behind me, a devilish smirk blossomed on my lips as I turned to face the speaker. "But, I feel as if any attempt to keep you away would prove futile."
I let out a small laugh, my back now to the throne. "That is true." I cocked my head at him.
He walked towards me, his steps were agonizingly slow compared to the ones I took to the throne. "You're like a magnet." He compared, causing me to lift an eyebrow, he stepped in front of me, forcing me to crane my neck to meet his eyes. "You just won't leave that throne alone."
My eyes left his and back to my golden throne. "Why would I?" I questioned.
"You'll have it soon." His tone changed, causing me to return my attention to him. "Just a little while longer, and it'll belong to us." His rough hand met my cheek, his calloused thumb rubbed my cheek softly.
"I've waited, and waited." I snapped, my mood turning sour quickly. "King Vincent has reigned for too long, it's time for a new ruler." I said orotundly.
His face turned panicked, "Don't speak like that, Rome." He whispered angrily. "He is still your King!"
"-And I'm about to become Queen." I interrupted, outwardly voicing my discontent for the current king.
His eyes turned angry, "You and I both know a King is much more powerful than any Queen."
I laughed loudly in his face, slapping his rough hand off my cheek. "No, that's not how I think. That's how you think, Ambrose."
He shook his head, his green eyes holding fire. "No, deliciae." The Latin dripped off his tongue. "That's how the whole world thinks."
I brought my hand up from my side, trailing it up from his stomach to his chest. I let my hand rest there, my fingers fiddling with the thick fabric of Victorian style shirt. "Lest you forget, my dear Rose." I mocked. "The Queen is the most powerful piece in the game of chess." I shoved him back, and he clenched his jaw as he tried to find his footing. "And I plan on making the world into my own very game."
He huffed angrily, as he picked up his self-dignity that I made sure to shatter. His furious steps causing a loud clicking sound to be heard as it echoed off the walls of the throne room.
Deciding that I still was not done with my verbal torture, I called out for him once more.
"Ambrose." I started, masking my voice with sorrow, he stopped, his back grew less rigid as he heard the tone of my voice.
I made my way off the step and towards where his angry form stood. My own heels clacked against the dark tile. He turned to face me slowly as he saw my approaching figure, and now with his new set attention on me, I swayed my hips ever so slightly- knowing that's exactly where his eyes would travel to rest. "I know we're dead, but that shouldn't be an excuse for you to not moisturize." I said and walked past him, now swaying my hips with more vigor.
All I heard from him was a sigh before I opened the door and slammed it shut. Most likely awakening the dead with my action.
My face contorted from the gleam smirk I had shown him to look of fury. I clenched my jaw as I tried to keep my anger intact. Maids and servants rushed out of my way upon seeing the fury dancing in my eyes.
How dare he?! I screamed internally. 'A king is much more powerful than a Queen'?
Bullshit.
I rounded the dark hallway, a maid made the mistake of looking me in the eye. Her sweet face turned into a look of horror as she yelped and jumped away. Her action causing me to cool down, but only slightly.
As I neared the end of the hall, two staircases greeted me and I gripped the cool railing and angrily marched down the left staircase. I was only a second away from screaming out pure anger to the world. The only thing stopping me from doing so were the whispers that would follow, and I did not need anything to ruin the days that would lead to my coronation.
My feet landed on the last step and I turned on my heel, turning towards the path that would take me to my wing of the old Victorian castle.
But a pale arm came into view and grabbed me, causing me to turn around as I span to face them. I ripped myself out of their grasp, my long nails scratching the arm- causing three bright crimson lines to appear as blood dripped down from the white limb and down to the dark wooden floors.
My eyes met with frightened ones, the ones of my handmaid.
Immediately guilt washed over me and the feeling of rage was long forgotten. "Oh, Camille." I started, as I pinched the bridge of my nose. "I didn't mean to."
She waved me off, "No time to worry about this, did you forget?" She said rapidly.
"Forget?" I asked, to which she snapped her eyes shut. "Forget what?"
Her pale arm grabbed mine as she tugged me in the direction of my room, "Rome!" She snapped. "There's a meeting tonight, in less than an hour!" Her words causing my memory to find its way back to me. She pulled open the door and ushered me inside. "You have to go to these things, they can easily determine your fate, and the fate of your crown!"
I sneered at her, "I know that!" I told her while she started to remove my top. "I had just... lost track of time."
She left my side and ran to grab a corset that hung in the corner of my room, "It's easy to lose track, seeing as though the mere concept of it shouldn't faze you." She slipped it over my head and got to work tightening the buttons with her nimble fingers.
"A corset?" I asked, "Really?"
She pulled tightly, causing me to jolt up. "When you become Queen you can outlaw them, but for now its a requirement."
"You know, Cami." I started, as she finished. "I'll die too one day." I said as I watched her run towards my closet, she flicked on the light causing it to spill onto the floor.
I heard the clatter of hangers being pushed aside, and then she walked out. In her hands, she held a dress darker than night, I looked up at her with a bored expression. "Black? Really? That's very..." I tried to find the right word. "Predictable."
Her smile dropped slightly, but she picked up it right back up. "Trust me Rome, this dress is far from that."
I didn't quite believe her, but let her dress me anyways. She slipped the soft dark fabric over my head, letting it fall and hug my body like a second skin.
Her fingers wrapped around my wrist as she led me to a mirror. I followed her slow steps with large ones of my own, she stopped in front of it and walked behind me. My focus left her as it went towards my reflection.
A low whistle left my mouth as I took it in.
"See, I wouldn't call that neckline. Predictable." Cami added in from behind me.
I nodded at her words as my hand trailed over the gold detail of it, "I wouldn't either."
She turned me around to face her, in her hands was a pair of gold dangling earring. She pushed back my hair and fastened the gold into my ear, then turning to do the other. I watched as she pulled back, and I threw my pin straight hair behind my neck and onto my back.
"Knock em' dead." She whispered.
I laughed at her choice of words, I winked at her as I walked towards my door.
"You know I will."

True to Cami's words, the council seemed flabbergasted as I walked into the meeting room.
But that was an hour ago, now they were flabbergasted for a whole nother reason- my sharp tongue.
"No, I hear what you're saying, My King." I started, with my fists on the table as I rose from my seat. "But what I'm saying, is that it's horse shit."
The King rolled his old eyes at me as members of the council clutched at their hearts at my words.
Their action made me want to roll my own eyes. Even after being dead for such a long time, they still acted as if they were alive.
"Lady Rome, we've come to a unanimous decision. There's nothing you can do to change it." The King said as he leaned back in his chair, the wrinkles on his face growing much more profound.
"No, I won't accept it." I sneered at him. "Why is it that I have to find my mate before I can usurp the throne! No ruler has had to do this before." I stated the facts. "Mates are a rarity, they practically don't even exist!"
He waved his finger, almost mockingly. "No ruler has ever been a Queen before either."
If looks could kill, the glare I was sending his way would've had him buried and burned.
My fists opened, as they gripped the edge of the table. "Is your masculinity so fragile, that you feel that a lone Queen can't rule?"
This caused him to stand up, resulting in a wave of council members rising up after him. Uncertain of what to do with the growing tension between us.
"You will not rule until there is a King by your side." He ordered. "I don't care if I have to write it down in stone, but this. It's not changing."
My fangs screamed as they wanted to get out of the confines of my mouth. "Your Majesty, let me tell you all the reasons that this rule should be voided."
He crossed his arms as he waited for me to start.
"One, it's bullshit." I started, causing him to detangle his arms. "Two, it's bullshit." He started walking out of the room. "And three!" I yelled after him, as he exited. "It's bull-fucking-shit!"
I yelled out in anger as I collapsed down in my seat, by now everyone had already filed out. Out of anger I brought down an angry fist and slammed it down on the heavy oak table. A sickening crack was heard before the table broke apart under my fist. I watched as the large wooden pieces fell slowly as a result of my fury.
I screamed once more as I stood up, kicking my seat back. The chair whizzed past the slick wooden floor and rammed into the others, causing them to fall down like dominoes.
My fingers found their way into my soft hair and I tugged like an animal at my strands.
This wasn't supposed to happen.
