After making sure Sam was sleeping, I quietly got out of bed and drove to HQ. Once I arrived, everyone was already up in the middle of a meeting.
"The Boars took care Niles. They took him out. Now we're down ten-grand." N started off saying.
"Maybe we should stop being so lenient," B continued speaking.
"Yeah," Xav agreed. "People think they can get away with blowing us off. Maybe it's time to teach them not to mess with Riverside."
"Are you all questioning my authority?" N snarled.
I sat down on the couch and kept quiet as the battle continued. "You're a great leader. You're just a bit lenient. People should fear us, but they don't. If they were to fear us, do you really think we would be out ten-grand right now?" B fought back.
"I'm not lenient." N snarled, getting angrier as the fight continued.
"Prove it," B stood up and got in his face.
"How do you want me to prove it to you B?" N roared.
This is when a light bulb lit up in my head. "Take out a guy." I spoke up and said.
Everyone turned their attention to me. "What did you just say?" N spoke up, looking directly at me.
"Yeah, do exactly what the Boars did. Except, do it to a guy that is not directly tied to us and is in jail to make a statement."
"And, what kind of statement would we be making?" B taunted me.
That fucker was always after me and always saw me as the weakest link. Now was time to put him in his place. "We'd be making the statement that nobody crosses us, in jail or anywhere for that matter. Get him to pick a fight with one of our guys. Then when the guy takes him out, he will be feared. It's a win-win"
"And who do you propose we take out in jail?" N asked me.
"Peter Dawson. Child rapist." I shot back.
I looked over at N as I watched the wheels turn in his head. He was clearly putting a lot of thought into it. Finally, he spoke. "That actually might work. We could make the statement that we took him out because he owed us money. That is surprisingly a great plan you have, H. We could then tell anyone that messes with us, they will get the same treatment as Dawson. Good work H."
B looked over at me, clearly pissed that I thought of something logical. I just smirked at him and redirected my attention to N.
"I'll take care of the details and get it done. I'll send everyone a text when it's done. From here on out, we show no mercy. No one will fuck us over again. B, find a way to make up the ten-grand back." N said to us.
"How the fuck am I expected to do that?" B replied, clearly pissed.
"Find a way, you're smart." N fired back. "H, I'll have an assignment for you tomorrow. Someone owes me some money. X follow me. I need you to do a run now. Rest dismissed."
As everyone left, I just walked to the gym to box. I needed to release some anger. It was starting to sink in that I just signed someone's death warrant. Even though they deserved it, I still wasn't sure how to feel about it.
When I got home, Sam was already in my bed wearing one of my sweaters, fast asleep. I took off my shirt, put on a pair of joggers and crawled in bed next to her.
I woke up the next morning to Sam cuddled into my chest. It's the best way to wake up, if you ask me. "Morning," I mumbled with my eyes closed.
"Where did you go last night?"
"Hmm?" I asked her, suddenly alert.
"I woke up in the middle of the night and you weren't beside me. Where did you go?"
I needed to come up with a lie and fast. "I went and got laid." I said to Sam.
"Really? By who?"
"Some girl I met at the party the other night." I replied.
"You showered before you came back to bed, right?"
"Of course, I did. That was our agreement."
"Good. I can't believe you haven't got someone pregnant yet." Sam stated.
"Protection is a blessing," I replied chuckling.
"Yeah, I wouldn't want any little Hunter's running around here." Sam replied, full on laughing at this point.
"Hey," I replied slightly offended. "I would make cute babies."
"Oh yeah, the absolute cutest." Sam replied, still laughing.
"Are you feeling better, after last night?" I asked her, wanting to get off the conversation of my future kids I wasn't even sure I wanted.
"Yeah, much. Can we go to the bookstore?"
I groaned. "Do we have too?"
"Please Hunt," Sam begged. "I want to look at some new books."
"Fine."
"Yay! Thank-you, thank-you."
After we got ready for the day, I took her to Chapters. It was like taking a kid to a candy store. Her eyes lit up as soon as she walked in and she literally started running all over the place. I couldn't help but grin at her. Fucking kid.
"I heard these books are good!" She said to me. "There is a television show based off of them now, but I didn't want to watch the show until I read the books." Of course, she didn't, she preferred books over movies or tv shows any day. Apparently, books give a lot more detail. I just don't care.
I looked over to see the six books she had picked out. They were all apart of The Mortal Instrument series. "Great," I replied. "Are we done now?'
"No, I want to look at a few more books. The Gone series has a new book out and the House of Night series came out with a spin-off. I want to get those books too."
"You know, it's a good thing your parents are rich and you're an only child. It's crazy how much money you spend at this store." I replied.
"Books make your mind sharper and are a perfect escape from reality. Everyone needs one of those every now and again."
My phone started to vibrate, already knowing who it was, I pulled it out to see where I had to go.
N: 350 Pine Road. Derek Andrews owes three-grand. Get my money.
Hunter: Got it. Be there within the hour.
I was hoping it was news about Sam's uncle, but an assignment is just as good. I started to rush Sam a little more, because I knew N wanted the job done as soon as possible and wouldn't leave me alone until it was done.
After paying for her books, which cost close too $200 we went to my car. "You know, there are so many things you can buy for that much money and you literally spent it on like eight books."
"Nine actually." She replied, glaring at me. She continued on, "you have your fun with sleeping with other girls. That's your sense of escape and that's fine, I'm not judging you. Books are my escape, so don't judge me."
"I wasn't judging you, I was just saying."
"Until you've gone to the places I've gone too in books, don't hate. You're the one that's missing out. If you keep sleeping with women as much as you do, you'll run out of sperm to create little Hunter's." She replied, laughing at what she said.
"Are we literally on the conversation of my kids again? I'm not going to be having kids anytime soon. I use protection and most of the girls I fuck are on the pill. You have nothing to worry about. I won't make you a godmother anytime soon."
"Awe, I'm going to be the godmother of your kids? You're the sweetest."
"You're the only girl who is a friend that I actually have. So yeah, that spot is reserved for you. Speaking though, how is Jennifer?"
Jennifer is Sam's girl best friend. Very hot, but very dumb. And completely off limits. Another rule set by Sam. "She's good, still off limits to you though."
I laughed at what she said. "I won't fuck Jen. You have nothing to worry about." I pulled into her driveway, so she could go start reading her new books.
"Will you come over after? I'll make supper."
"Depends on what you're making." I replied, even though it was obvious I'd be over after.
"I'm in the mood for tacos. I'll text you with a list of things I need picked up. See you after, Hunt."
Sam got out of the car and started walking towards her house. I watched her until I knew she was in the house and floored it out of the driveway. Time to go make some money.
