Wow
Over 100 views
thanks so much! I honestly didn't think I'd get this far in the story
I have some more ideas that could be fanfics.
Idk if I'll type them down :/
I'm sorry for updating this late, I'm not great at sticking to schedules.
the next chapters will hopefully be on time, but my week is always different and I write impromptu so no promises. :)
But thank you all so much for reading my fic!
Honeypaw's Pov
"Come on! wake up! what are you a dormouse?"
Honeypaw mewed in protest and opened her eyes, glaring blearily at the brown-and-white apprentice.
"Took you long enough! Our mentors are waiting. Sparrowpaw's already out there!" Cloverpaw called over her shoulder as she bounded out of the den and disappeared out into the bright sunlight.
Honeypaw yawned and twisted to lap at her ruffled fur, wondering what their training was for today.
Then she remembered last night, Bramblestar was hurt, bad.
Sleepiness forgotten, Honeypaw dashed out of the den to where her siblings sat, their mentors stood a few feet off, discussing something. Cloverpaw's ears perked up as Honeypaw plopped herself down next to her.
"There you are, I was starting to think you fell back asleep!"
Honeypaw huffed indignantly, "I didn't take that long!"
"Whatever you say"
Honeypaw rolled her eyes, "Hows Bramblestar?"
Sparrowpaw peeked at her from over Cloverpaw's head, "I asked the same thing, Cloudleaf said he's still unconscious, but better than last night."
Honeypaw let out a sigh of relief as Silverleaf, Acornfur, and Robinfeather joined them.
"Today, we're doing battle training," Acornfur stated. Honeypaw wasn't surprised, their leader had just been attacked after all. Foxes and badgers are rare in this forest, but what else would attack the dark warrior? Suddenly, Cloverpaw cut in, "Bramblestar just almost died and we're just going about our day like nothing happened?" Sparrowpaw shushed her, "It's because he got hurt that we haveto train, we could get attacked too. And Bramblestar'll be okay, so Clan life can carry on as usual." Acornfur nodded in approvel
"I'll be focusing mainly on attack" Robinfeather continued, shaking Honeypaw out of her thoughts. "Acornfur will be defense, and Silverleaf will work with more difficult moves mainly on speed."
"One of you will be with each of us at a time, once you've mastered the move we've taught, you will move on to the next warrior," Acornfurr added
"Once you've been to all three of us, there will be a mock battle between you three. The winner gets first pick at the fresh-kill pile." Silverleaf said.
Cloverpaw bounced up and down excitedly, "Come on then! to the training clearing!"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Rear back on your hind legs and swipe. Use your tail for balance."
Honeypaw struggled back onto two feet, flailing her paws wildly as she attempted to stay upright.
"I said use your tail"
Honeypaw tried again, waving her tail back and forth, shifting her weight until it felt evenly spread. She drew back a paw to swipe, and that small movement knocked her off balance again. She landed face first into the grass, and scrambled up again, spitting dirt out of her mouth.
"Your paws appeared to be stuck to the ground. You can and should move them. When you swipe, you want to fall forwards and catch yourself on all four paws, ready to fight again. It's much harder if your feet stay glued to the floor. Watch"
Honeypaw stared at her mentor as he reared up, perfectly balanced, and slashed a paw in front of him, using the momentum of his fall to boost his strike. He landed on all fours in a battle crouch. He straightened and turned back to her, "now try again."
Honeypaw obeyed, and reared up, flicking her tail. When she found that balance, she shifted her footing so her swipe would draw her forwards, hoping she didn't face-plant, Honeypaw let herself fall, her full body weight behind the strike. Yes! Honeypaw thought, her delight was short, however, as she quickly realized she'd completely forgotten about the landing. with a slight oomph! Honeypaw thumped onto the ground
"Better" Robinfeather called as she pushed herself up again. "You have to move fast enough that your paw can land back on the ground. Swiping earlier into your fall should help with that. Now again!"
Honeypaw nodded, drawing herself onto two legs, falling with the strike, and this time-landing on all fours with only a little stumble. "I did it!" she cheered, Robinfeather's eyes glimmered with pride and amusement, "looks like you did, that was great Honeypaw" She grinned widely at him as he said, "I think you can move on to Acornfur."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Honeypaw wasn't much good at defense.
When Acornfur rushed at her, she was supposed to avoid getting knocked off her feet.
But instead, she fell every. Time.
Groaning, Honeypaw picked herself up from what felt like her two hundred fifty-seventh fail (it was probably only the fifth) Acornfur studied her, "Mind telling me what you think you're doing wrong?" he asked. Honeypaw just stared at him blankly, "Ummmm I'm falling every time?"
Acornfur rolled his eyes, "Yes, but I meant with your strategy. You can't just let me charge you and stand there thinking it'll work itself out. Are you going to counterattack? Dodge? Trip me?"
Honeypaw paused, "Dodge, I guess,"
"Then that's what you have to focus on doing. To dodge me, you need to anticipate my next move. Watch for when I'm about to attack"
Acornfur walked back to his spot and crouched, ready to run.
Honeypaw watched him carefully, picking out the moment his muscles tensed, right before he charged. Quickly, Honeypaw scrambled out of the way as he barreled past, paw brushing her ear. She turned and watched him, unsure of what to do next. Acornfur just sighed,
"the point of dodging is to avoid an attack. But if you do what you just did, you're leaving yourself open to a new attack. It's not just about running, you have to be ready for your opponent's next move. Try it again"
Honeypaw nodded, crouching in anticipation as she scanned the warrior's body for a sign he was going to attack. There, The second before he reached her, Honeypaw ducked out of the way, spinning around to face him as soon as she was out of range, ready in a crouch.
"Better," Acornfur noted, "Now try attacking after you dodge."
Once more he charged, Honeypaw sidestepped his swipe and barreled into his passing body, knocking him to the ground, in a second, she was on top of him, claws ready.
"Wow," He said, grinning, "You sure have improved." Honeypaw scrambled off him and let the dusty warrior get to his feet.
His eyes glinted with an amused light as he said, "I think you're ready to face Silverleaf"
Aaaaaaaand that's that! sorry for the lack of action, but stuff'll happen soon!
(hopefully)
