Hi! *waves* :3 So here I am with the first part of the double update that I promised. *phew* I litterally have been tapping away on my keyboard all day on this and trying to get it perfect, but it still sort of feels like this chapter's missing something... Sorry! Either way, I hope you enjoy it anyways! -JessiexXx

'What goes up, must come down'

-Elsa’s POV-

“You know I’m only doing this for you, right?” Hiccup reminded me. “Because you’re a friend.” He looked as though he was trying to conceal how he really felt, although a hint of fear still shone through those forested green eyes.

I didn’t really know what to say in response, so I just smiled and nodded slightly. “Let’s go.”

I flicked my hair from my face and turned away from him, leading him through the mass of people and tables, towards Jack. It honestly felt as though I was marching him to his death or something. I could faintly hear him muttering things underneath his breath behind me as he followed. And I could’ve sworn he said something about a ‘cherry cake’. Strange.

To be honest, I wasn’t really sure why I wanted Hiccup to do this with me, when I could’ve asked any of my other friends. Okay, well perhaps not Merida since Jack shouted at her and no-one else, and definitely not Rapunzel, because she wouldn’t agree with stealing anything. Flynn, maybe, but for some reason Hiccup just seemed like the better choice. No offence to Flynn, of course.

Jack was stood alone in the lunch line, his hands stuffed into his pockets and a frown etched on his face. Not even a hint of a smile. And for some reason, before approaching him, I had to suck in a deep breath as though he were a stranger. Flynn’s words floated across my mind, ‘…then your heads are on spikes. Literally. Flaming spikes.’ However little did I know, something worse than flaming spikes was coming for us…

Okay Elsa, you’ve got it all planned out. Don’t worry. Here goes nothing…

“Hey Jack,” I said, flashing him a sickly sweet smile along with a small wave. Cautiously, Hiccup weaved through the line and stood on the other side of Jack. Jack just glanced at me and grunted, not seeming to notice Hiccup.

“What lesson did you just have?” I asked him, twirling my braid in my fingers nervously, and attempting to continue the conversation. Hiccup began to crouch slightly, giving me a small nod. I responded with a small wink that, to anyone who wasn’t in on the plan, would’ve appeared as a simple twitch of the eye.

Jack hesitated before answering. “Music,” he murmured. I nodded, my eyes frantically flicking between him and Hiccup who was now carefully reaching his hand out to Jack’s back jean pocket. Which, to anyone who wasn’t in on the plan, would’ve appeared very odd indeed…

“I just had Maths,” I said to Jack, rolling my eyes dramatically. I thought I was being pretty convincing.  At least drama club was good for something.

I took another deep breath. Everything was going according to plan! Jack had his eyes my way, Hiccup’s fingers were just brushing the top of the phone and, any moment now…

That’s when I realised that I’d had my eyes on Hiccup for too long.

Jack furrowed his eyebrows in confusion and followed my gaze.

Oops.

Jack began to turn around, and as he did, Hiccup suddenly jumped in surprise, losing his balance. He clearly didn’t expect Jack to turn so unexpectedly. The world span in slow-motion as he toppled to the floor. And Jack, still turning on his heel, twisted his foot and caught it up with mine. I too lost my balance, tripping and falling. I waved my arms in the air in desperation, trying to do anything to regain my balance. I screeched. Anything, but nothing worked. I shot out my hands to prevent myself from falling on my face…

And the next thing I know? I was on top of Hiccup.

“Ow!” he cried in pain. I wasn’t sure, but I think I may have accidently hit him in the place where the sun doesn’t shine…

Suddenly, everything went quiet.

Perfect, just perfect.

People paused from eating to stare. Some began to point, and others covered their mouths and giggled. But slowly, every single pair of eyes in the cafeteria became focused on us.

Sweet potatoes…

Hiccup rolled his eyes, let out a long sigh, rested his head on the floor and covered his face with his hands like he’d given up.

I had no idea what to do or say, I could just lie there as my cheeks turned the brightest red ever seen. “Umm,” was all I could manage to get out. “Well isn’t this awkward.”

And that’s when it really kicked off.

Everybody began to laugh at us. Even the teachers. Others took out phones and snapped pictures whilst I tried to cover my face. And then there was this one idiot who decided to wolf whistle at us.

“Hey, PDA much!” someone yelled, causing another wave of laughter.

“Oi you two! Get a room!” shouted another boy who I recognised from my Biology class.

The entire hall had erupted into laughter, whilst Hiccup and I clumsily scrambled to our feet. He raised his eyebrows at me as if to suggest that we should leave. He had a pained expression on his face, but he wasn’t red.

Oh, and Jack? He’d wandered off after giving us the strangest, coldest glare. He probably just pretended that he didn’t even know us.

Great, just great.

Hiccup and I awkwardly began to leave. However sadly, the only way to exit the hall was to walk past the tables of goons, who all sat pulling kissy lips at us. I even heard someone mutter to their friend, “That’s really put me off my lunch. Don’t they know this is a dinner hall?

Well, let me tell you, they’re lucky that I didn’t hear who said it; otherwise I swear I could never have contained my anger and embarrassment any longer. I would’ve exploded and their lunch would’ve been splatted all over their face.

I leaned into Hiccup, close enough that he could hear me whispering amongst the deafening laughter. “Screw lunch,” I said, “I’ve got a bag of gummy bears in my bag, let’s head to the field.” He gave me a serious look, and nodded.

We headed straight to the school field, ate the gummy bears, discussed movies together as though it never happened and then went our separate ways.

After lunch, neither Hiccup nor I spoke to each other for the rest of the day.

I felt so guilty. He did it for me.

***

“Hello?” I called out, pulling the front door shut behind me. I slid my bag from my shoulders, shook the powdered snow from my jacket, and stepped out of my boots before slumping against the door. It sure was a relief to be home. Why? Well let’s just say that today… hadn’t been great.

After lunch, everything had turned into hell. The idiots on my French table had talked about the ‘incident’ all lesson. They were convinced that we’d been ‘making out’ and I couldn’t persuade them otherwise. Meanwhile, the other idiots on my geography table had stolen my books and written ‘E + H’ all over them in pen. I was certain that a few of them had put images up on social media. And I walked home alone too, since Jack didn’t bother to wait.

“Hello? Anyone home?”

I hadn’t spoken to Hiccup, but I’d assumed that he’d received the same treatment.  But the worst part yet was that it was all my fault. I should never have dragged him into it…

“Elsa?” a voice finally replied, accompanied by a girl who appeared roughly a year or so younger than me, one with plaited, ginger hair and a lollypop held between her fingers.

“Anna?” I said, folding my arms. “What are you doing with that? Aunt will kill you if she finds out you’re eating sweets before dinner!”

Anna just shrugged, grinned and stuck her tongue out at me. “No she won’t, because she’s not here.”

I flipped my hair behind my back. “Well I’ll just have to tell her when she gets back then,” I challenged in an ‘I’m such a responsible older sister’ voice.

Anna licked her lollipop tauntingly. “I’d like to see you try. But do be aware that if you say a single word, then I’ll mention your boyfriend,” she said, emphasizing the word ‘boyfriend’.

“He is NOT my boyfriend!” I yelled immediately, covering my face.

“Stressy much!” she laughed, and I raised an eyebrow at her. Since aunt found out that Anna has a thing for this guy called ‘Kristoff’ in her Math class, she’s been pestering her on and on about inviting him over for tea, walking home with him, going out on the town… That woman is an obsessed matchmaker, and I certainly didn’t want to think about what would happen if she thought I liked Hiccup in ‘that way’.

Especially when I don’t think he’d even like me at all, in any way, after today.

“This is the reigning champion of pillow fighting you’re talking to here,” I reminded Anna, trying to keep the subject off of ‘the incident’.

“Whoa Elsa, is it me or is the air getting thinner in here?” she asked, tapping her finger to her chin. “Perhaps all the air in the room is being sucked into that gigantic head of yours!”

“Oh come back here!” I yelled, chasing her laughing down the corridor. I followed her, stumbling, up to her bedroom where she picked her snowflake pillows from her bed and began whacking me with them. I ran back along the hall to my bedroom and to grab my pillows too, and began hitting her with them as we laughed and screamed.

After a few minutes Anna and I collapsed onto my bed.

It’s good to have a sister like her, someone who doesn’t care, who you can just have fun with and forget the rest of the day. Because right now, I really needed that.

“So is he your boyfriend?” she teased, out of breath.

“Anna!” I screamed, whacking her with the pillow once more whilst she laughed and protested.

I clutched my stomach and took a moment to breathe before replying. “No,” I said. “But I don’t know how on earth I’m going to make it up to him tomorrow.”
