Amara sat down on the sand, staring off into space. She thought the soothing beach would calm her wild thoughts but it only made it worse. All she could hear is his words repeating in his head and everyone cheering for the newly engaged couple.
She couldn't believe her own best friend went through with the marriage after she cheated on. It was already bad enough that Francesca knew how much Amara loved Lettie, but yet she dated him, cheated on him, and is now going marry him, and even had the audacity to rub it in Amara's face when they broke the news.
"We're married!" Francesca said. A tight smile and late applause filled the surfboard shop. Everyone's eyes immediately fell onto Amara and she tried her best not to break down.
Lettie's grandma looked at Amara with sorrowful eyes. Amara looked up at the ceiling and tried to keep the salty tears at bay.
"Oh my gosh Amara, look at the ring! Isn't it beautiful?" Francessca said ignoring Leatie's grandmother and moving over to her. She extended her hand and the ring beamed underneath the light.
"Extremely." Amara said trying to stop her hands from shaking. She gave Frencessca a quick hug and moved away from her before she exploded.
Francesca turned around and called for everyone attending. "Since today is a day of good news, I would like to tell everyone that I'm pregnant!" She yelled.
If Amara's heart couldn't drop even farther before it did now. She couldn't believe that Francesca was still going to keep the baby knowing it wasn't Lettie's.
Her heart started to beat more rapidly than usual and Amra had to hold onto the rack so she wouldn't fall. She grabbed her purse from behind the counter and walked out quickly.
Lettie noticed his best friend odd behavior and tried to run after her but Francesca had a vice grip on his arm. He made a mental note to check up on her in the morning, but when he was never able to

After Amara found out the news she woke up bright and early to visit her local Military Entrance Process Station. Two weeks ago she took the ASVAB so she could join the marines. The maximum score was 90 and the minimum was a 35, but yet Amara managed to score a perfect 90. A Sargent came to her house personally, to talk to her about joining. Amara was all down for it until everyone talked her out of it, including Lettie.
Even though she wanted to do it she didn't want to hurt her family, and so she never got back to Sargent, but after the events that happened a couple of days ago, she decided to do what she wanted to do. She went in a did a couple of tests and they gave her back a paper telling her when she would be leaving.
Which was tomorrow.
Amra still hasn't told her close family and friends yet. She decided she would tell them after she caught her last wave, but even after she was done she sat on the beach scared of what next was to come.
"Hey, I haven't seen you in such a long time." Someone said.
Amara's body instantly tensed. The person sat next to her, and it took everything in Amara to turn her head and look at him.
"Hey.." She said giving him a tight smile.
"What have you been up to lately? You ignored everyone's calls and now you text us to meet you at the shop. I hope you didn't kill anybody." He joked as he pulled her into him.
Amara's head laid on his shoulders and instantly all of her worries went away. Lettie always had such a powerful power that made her feel better when she was stressed or sad. He knew the exact things to do and the right words to say.
"No, I didn't kill anybody." Lettie laughed. "I have some news to tell everyone." She said pulling away from him.
"What is it?" He asked excitedly.
"It would be better if I told everyone all at once." She said nervously.
"Well let's go then! Everyone is waiting for you at the shop." Lettie said getting up. He grabbed Amara's hand and pulled her up before grabbing her board.
The walk to the shop wasn't far which didn't allow Amara to prepare her words. Her initial plan was to best around the bush for some while but as she walked into the surfboard shoo she decided against it. She felt as if though it would be better to just get it over with and leave.
"Okay, everyone is here. Go ahead and tell us." Lettie said walking over to Francesca. She immediately clung onto his arm and gave Amara a cocky smile.
Ugly ass hoe.
(A/N: I'm sorry but I had to)
Amara took a deep breath and looked at all her friends and family. "A couple of days I went down to the Military Entrance Process Station and completed my physical. I'm leaving for California tomorrow." She said.
The whole shop erupted and Amara was on the verge of losing her shit. Everyone was coming at her all at once and she honestly couldn't blame them. In the next seventeen hours, she will be leaving for California and she didn't tell them until the last minute.
"How long have you known Amara, and why didn't you tell us?" Pops asked her.
"It's only been two days. I was scared to tell you guys the day I found out so I waited until I could get my nerves in check." She said to him.
"Why are you leaving so soon?" Lelo, one of her good friends asked.
"People leave by batches and since I did it a couple of days ago I'm apart of that batch. I wish I could change it but I can't." She said.
The shops fell quiet until Lettie's grandma, mama decided to speak up. "Are you really going to do this Amara?" She asked.
Amara knew where mama was going and she tried to get her to be quiet but Mama kept going. "You're going to leave without telling him how you feel?" Mama asked.
"Yes, those feelings are long gone." Amara said defensively. Everyone catcher on to what Mama and Amara were talking about and they tried their best to stop Mama from talking.
"Who is him?" Lettie spoke up, making mama turn to her grandson.
"You're him! Amara has loved you for as long as I can remember but you're so caught up on this worthless rat that you can't even see it. You chased after this wrench and was blindly in love that you don't even see that she continuously cheats on you. You think that baby is yours? Huh, think again. Do you think that she loves you? Think again. The only reason she's with you is to rub it in Amara's face, and Amra being the kind so she let it continue for years. Why do you think I didn't give you our family ring? It's because what the two of you have between each other is one-sided love." Mama said.
Amara wanted to run out of the shoo and never look back but her feet stayed glued to the floor. She was in absolute shock and didn't know what to do.
Lettie moved away from Francesca and looked down at her. "You've been cheating on me?" He asked, his voice cracking. Believe it or not, but Lettie was actually in love with Francesca.
"Baby it isn't likeโ" she tried to say but Lettie cut her off.
"What isn't it like then Fran? You cheated, and most likely got pregnant by the guy you cheated on me with. Then you try to make it as if though it was my baby. Really?" He said before turning to everyone else.
"And you guys knew about it and didn't tell me? You guys were going to let me raise another man child." He said, disgust dripping from his voice.
He turned to Amara and his once hard eyes softened. The tears ran down his face and Amara felt her heart weaken "You supposedly loved me but you couldn't tell me what she was up to. You were going to stand at the sidelines and watched me marry her when you loved me?" He said stepping towards Amara.
"I tired Lettie! I tried to tell you but your focus was always on her, and when you with her you were finally happy after such a long time. I love youโ I love you so much, but I rather see you happy than to see you hurt." She said, the tears rolling down her cheeks.
"If you loved me then you would have told me! Yes, I would've been hurt but at least I know I dodged a bullet. I waisted three years when it could have only been a week." Lettie said.
"And would you have listened to me, Lettie? Would you have walked away from her? Mama told you she didn't like her and you still went with it." Amara said stepping towards him.
"BECAUSE YOUR DIFFERENT!" He yelled.p
"Well, what has happened have already been set in stone," Amara said shaking her head. She turned to everyone and told them goodbye before walking out of the shop.
That could have gone better.
