Sophie Pov
I leaned back on Cala's tree, watching the creatures off in the pastures. There was a light breeze, but it felt nice in the summer afternoon.
"Foster? You ok?" A voice said from behind me. It was Keefe. I scrambled up, brushing the dirt off of my tunic, for whatever reason my cheeks turned red.
"Yeah, I'm fine."
"Oh c'mon Foster, you can't lie to a Empath" Keefe grinned. I rolled my eyes, crossing my arms.
"Is it about you and Fitz?" He whispered.
"Urm, it has to do with that." I mumbled, staring at the ground. Ever sense he broke us up, I felt partially empty, but secretly, partially sort of relieved, which greatly confused me.
"Keefe?" I asked him, my throat dry.
"Yeah Foster?"
"Can you keep a secret?" I whisper asked.
"For you, of course Foster." He assured me, lowering his had so I could whisper in his ear.
"Councilor Oraile is my mother." I whispered in his ear. He pulled back.
"Really?"
"Yeah. I didn't tell Fitz, and he got mad, and...."
"Oh Foster" Keefe mumbled, pulling me into a hug. I started to sob in his chest. I spotted Ro glaring at Keefe, nodding as if telling him to do something.
"Hey Foster."
"Yes?"
"C-can I tell you a secret?"
"Of course."
"I-I love you Foster." He lightly whispered in my ear. "I always have, and always will."
I felt some weird fluttery things in my stomach. Then it hit me. How could I be so oblivious? I had chased after the wrong guy.
It had really always been Keefe that I liked. He was the one who could make me smile or even laugh when I need it most. He was the only one who I could talk to without the worry of being judged. Keefe had always been there for me. And I tried to always be there for him, something I probably should of done more of.
"Foster?"
"Keefe, I love you too." I whispered to him.
"You do? But what about the Fitzter?" He said, sounding surprised and astonished.
"Keene, your father has a theory that the emotions of the head are different from the emotions of the heart. In my head, I though I liked Fitz, but in my heart, I love you." I confessed.
"Awww, Foster—"
I cut him off by kissing him. He kissed me back, and we sat there for awhile, kissing under Calla's tree, as it always should have been. (With, of course, Ro cooing them in the background because it's Ro and she's awesome)
