Natalie's POV

I was walking into the school gym with Tony. I was never one to be intimidated by teenagers, but sometimes they're cruel. And as John Mulaney would say, thirteen year olds are the meanest people in the world.

Thank god I'm in a high school.

Tony didn't seem at all worried or interested in being here. I simply told him to talk about a new tech internship with the avengers and I would be there to talk about joining the team as an agent and spy.

I'm not really much of an agent, but I needed an excuse to be here.

We got behind the small microphone and Tony tapped it a couple of times to test if it was one. I stood up a little straighter as I scanned the crowd for Peter as Stark introduced himself.

"I'm sure you all know who I am. If you don't, you've been living under a rock for last, well, your entire life. And this woman next to me, is a lot tougher than she looks. She'd probably kill me if I introduced her."

He's right.

Peter's POV

Ned had white knuckles as he stared at Mr. Stark. I don't blame him. I didn't think I would ever be this close to someone as incredible as Tony Stark. Why is he even here anyways?

"Who's that girl with Stark?" I asked Ned.

He knows everything and I would be shocked if he couldn't give me an answer. Ned has a way of finding out information. I'm grateful for his Yoda-like knowledge.

"That's the new Avenger. She's responsible for saving every life in Sokovia. The team treats her like a god. I'm pretty sure she's the new leader. I heard that she has a thing with Captain America."

I look at her closely. I knew the face from the news and I'm surprised I didn't recognize her sooner.

"That's right! May was telling me all about how cool it would be to just join the Avengers. She said it would be terrifying and that I should never do something like that, but she thought it would be cool."

Ned scoffed and nodded.

"Yeah, well she's right. No offense Peter, but you couldn't exactly take on an alien or robot army."

I laughed nervously.

"Yeah, right."

Little does he know I can stop a bus with my bare hands and swing from rooftops.

Stark and the new superhero, who doesn't even have a name, stepped up to the microphone to begin the assembly that no one knows anything about. Stark tapped on the device and before he spoke.

"I'm sure you all know who I am. If you don't, you've been living under a rock for last, well, your entire life. And this woman next to me, is a lot tougher than she looks. She'd probably kill me if I introduced her."

The woman chuckled to herself as she began to speak.

"My name is Natalie Carter and I'm an Avenger. As you know, you don't have to have powers to be a hero, which is why Tony and I are here."

Woah, what.

"Ned, I think they're here to recruit people for the Avengers!" I said a little too excited.

I'm obviously the most qualified person here. I would be amazing on the team. They would be stupid not to pick me. Not that the Avengers are stupid. They're amazing.

"Tony here is looking for some techies to intern and maybe become an official team member. I, however, am looking for someone to be out in the field with. Someone who's tough and knows how to work with a team. This isn't for everyone and I'll be able to tell who'll make it. Romanoff and Rogers aren't exactly ones to go easy. Trust me, I know."

I felt people around me shift and I saw a shadow from behind me. I look up and see Talia coming to sit next to me. She said she needed to go to the office and finish up some paperwork and that she would find us later. It seems that she did.

"File your paperwork?" I ask as she sat down in the bleachers.

"Nope, I waited in the line and when I got to the front they insisted that I come straight to the gym for the mandatory assembly. So, what did I miss?" she asks as she finally looked at the gym floor.

"Tony Stark and Natalie Carter, the Avengers, are recruiting new members. They came here!" Ned answered for me.

"Natalie Carter?" she asked.

Talia's voice seemed shocked and terrified. I don't know how to describe it, but she didn't ask who it was. It was more of a conformation.

"Yeah, do you know her? Your last name is Carter, right? Are you guys related?" I asked and it seemed to capture the attention of Ned.

"She's my sister."

Woah. Wicked. That's so cool.

"Your sister is an Avenger!?" I whisper shouts.

She visibly swallows and starts to shift in her seat.

"Are you okay?" I placed a hand on her shoulder.

"Yeah, I just haven't seen her in awhile. I had no idea she was a superhero."

How did she not know? Where has she been for the last year? I get that she just moved here, but she wasn't even in contact with her own sister? I shouldn't be making assumptions. I don't know anything about her life. I've only just met her.

"Oh, well, we can go talk to her after the assembly," I offered.

"Really?" her eyes practically popped out of her head.

"You would do that for me?"

I nodded and gave Talia a small smile.

"Of course we'll help you! You're one of us now," Ned gave her a wide grin and she laughed at his enthusiasm.

"Thanks, Ned."

Ned punched me in the arm. It was harder than he intended, but he still smiled at me like the Cheshire cat.

"She knows my name!"

I rolled my eyes and turned my attention back to the superheroes on the gym floor.

"So, if you're interested, which I assume most of you obnoxious teenagers are, come up here and we'll put you on the list," Mr. Stark said and he walked off behind a table that a few teachers setup while they were talking.

A mob of jocks, nerds, and cheerleaders storm up to the table. Flash was obviously first in line.

"Ready?" I ask as the three of us stood up.

Talia nodded and stood very close to me. Close enough that I could smell her rose perfume. Not that I minded, of course.

"I hope so."
