Meredith-25
It was a little after two in the morning when Meredith awoke from her slumber. She got up from her bed and headed down the bunker hallway towards the kitchen having one thing on her mind.
Ice cream.
She walked into the kitchen flipping the light on trying to be quite. She didn't want cranky brothers disturbing her snack time.
She opened the freezer and grabbed the container of mint chocolate chip ice cream.
She turned around to grab a spoon and gasped.
"Hello Meredith." Castiel said monotoned.
"Jesus Cas, mind not giving me a heart attack?" She said holding her chest.
"I am not Jesus Meredith you know this." He replied cocking his head.
"Yes, Castiel I know. What's up?" She asked grabbing a spoon.
"Just thought I would check in." He stated.
"At two in the morning?" Meredith chuckled placing the ice cream container back into the freezer.
"I can come back if you'd like." He asked her.
"No no it's okay, you can stay." She said sitting at the table.
"What is that you are eating?" Castiel asked confused looking at the desert in front of her.
"It's called Ice cream Castiel. Mint chocolate chip to be exact. You want some?" She asked already getting up to grab him a spoon.
"I don't eat." He said as a matter of factly.
"Well, you're at least going to try it." Meredith said handing him a spoon. "Sit" she said pointing to she seat across from her.
"Just don't tell Dean I gave you this. He says mint chocolate chip is a disgrace and shouldn't be a flavor." She joked as Castiel awkwardly sat down across from her.
He grabbed the spoon and watched as Meredith took a scoop from her bowl.
"Alright." He said taking a a bite of ice cream.
"Well?" She asked with a grin on her face.
"All I taste are molecules." He said putting the spoon down. "I told you I don't eat"
She rolled her eyes in annoyance and shook her head. Angels.
"Right. Forgot about that." Meredith said.
After a few moments Castiel spoke. "Why are you up?"
"I do this almost every night. I don't sleep very well so... I do this" she smiled pointing her spoon down to her bowl.
"I never sleep." Castiel replied.
"You don't do much of anything do you, Cas?" Meredith laughed.
"I suppose so, no." He said a small smile on his face.
Meredith took a big bite of her ice cream. "You know, I remember the first time I had this stuff" she said clearing her throat.
"I was 7 and Dad and all of us kids were staying somewhere up in California for a case" She said looking at her angel friend.
"We had heard there was a carnival in town and I had begged dad to take me." She said replaying the memory in her brain.
"Of course, the whole carnival scene wasn't really his thing and said no. I was devastated." Meredith said. Castiel could see the small hint of sadness on her face.
"What happened next?" He asked.
Meredith smiled before she spoke. "Dad had left on a supply run and hadn't planned on being back for a few hours. I was pouting." She laughed at the memory.
"Then Dean said, "Sammy, Meredith get your shoes on we're going to the carnival." I was so excited. I had nearly dragged them on every ride" She said smiling fondly at him taking a final bite of her ice cream.
She got up grabbing Castiel's spoon and placed her bowl in the sink.
"Then I saw it. The big ice cream truck." Meredith said opening a bottle of water taking a sip.
"When I told him I wanted Mint chocolate chip he almost changed his mind." She said returning to her seat.
"But, like everything all good things must come to end." She sighed.
"What happened?" Castiel questioned. She sighed and continued to speak. "When we got back to the hotel Dad was already there. He had gotten back earlier than Dean had anticipated."
She took a deep breath. "Man, I'll never forget the look on his face. He screamed at Dean and told how disappointed he was in him. Telling him how he should have told him and that he was reckless. I remember crying and holding Sam's hand." She said sadly looking down.
Castiel had heard some stories of John Winchester before. He couldn't help but feel bad for his friends and the childhood they had to endure.
"I didn't have a normal child hood but Sam and Dean always tried their best to make me happy." She said.
"They're good brothers" he smiled. He meant it too. The Winchester trio loved each other more than anything and they sacrificed the world for each other.
"Yeah. They really are." Meredith smiled at Cas.
