Ella's heart-breaking sobs echo around the clearing as I drop to my knees next to her. Reaching out, I gently slide my arms under her and hold her close to my chest; brushing the curls out of her face. "He-" She starts but her words end on a sob.
"What's the matter Ella?" Raven approaches.
The tears continue to trail down her cheeks, her breath catching in her chest. "Come on love, you need to breath." I say. She hiccups and lets out the air she had been holding in, a sob following close behind. I run my fingers through her hair, deciding she needs a bit of help. "In." I instruct, holding her close to my chest so she can breathe with me. "Out". I say, breathing steadily. One hand gripping my shirt tightly, she inhales and exhales at my direction; a group soon gathering around us. One of her hands continued to clench the space over her heart and something clicked in my head. I sat her up and pulled her to my chest. I motioned Raven to get the car started. His eyes swam in confusion but he hesitantly nodded. My heart started to hurt for my friend that was in so much pain. "In." I say rubbing her back.
"Do you know what the matter is?" Alexandre asks, crouching in front of us.
I nod my head but I don't want to announce to the world what had just taken place. "Can you please help me get her to my car?" I plead to Alexandre with my eyes.
"Let me have her." He picked her up and cradled her to his chest. She let another gut wrenching sob out and clung to our Alphas shirt, burying her face into the fabric.
"It hurts." She wailed.
We hurried to my car and he put her in the back seat with Raven, she laid her head on our friends lap and he started absentmindedly combing his fingers through her hair. Trying to comfort her the same way I had. Nothing was working for her. "Do you know what's wrong?" Raven asks me, trying to meet my eyes with my rear-view mirror. I start speeding toward my parent's house.
"Her mate rejected her." Saying it out loud made my heart drop. As soon as the words had left my lips her sobs only got louder.
"Oh Ella, baby." Raven choked out. It was a nightmare all Omega's had, our mate rejecting us. We all prepared ourselves for possible rejection. It happened so rarely in our pack nowadays maybe we had just thought that it wouldn't happen to us. Sometimes the pain would be too much and an Omega would die from a broken heart. Usually what started the process would be where they wouldn't eat, wouldn't drink, wouldn't do general things they needed to survive.
I couldn't lose one of my best friends, because her mate had rejected her.
I just couldn't.
I pulled up to my parents house and my tires screeched from the sudden stop. I hopped out of the car leaving it running. I ran up the steps to the brick house and slammed the door open with such force it banged against the wall. "Dad!" I shouted.
"Yes kiddo." His voice was muffled, but it had come from the living room.
"Dad, can you help me get Ella into my room?!" I then explained what had happened after the ceremony was through. My dad hurried to my car and grabbed the small Omega from the back seat as Raven makes sure my car is turned off. We follow my dad upstairs, he delicately sits Ella on my unmade bed.
"Take care kiddo." He says to her, giving her a kiss on her forehead. He gives Raven and I a grim look before he leaves us alone with our mess of a friend. We crawl on both sides of our friend and we sandwich her between us with a hug.
"I'm so sorry, my love." I muttered in her hair
.
She continued to sob for hours, she finally tired out around 4 in the morning and passed out from exhaustion. My heart was breaking for my friend. She was now hiccuping in her sleep, both Raven and I were wide awake wanting to make sure our friend was being taken care of.
"What are we going to do?" Raven asked. "I've never seen her so hurt."
"Me either." I frown.
"I can't lose her."
"Neither can I." A lone tear runs down my cheek.
"We have to take care of her, she can't die on us. She better fucking eat or I'll shove that shit down her throat." Raven sadly laughed, combing another strand of her hair out of her face.
"We're not going to let her be a sad little shit, she's the strongest one of us, no way can we let her be dragged down by this. We'll make him pay for making her feel like this." I growl, squeezing her gently to my chest.
"Oh yes we will." Raven replied.
"Anyways, let me get up and get a few bottles of water and snacks for when she wakes up tomorrow. We're going to make sure she eats." I gently scoot away from her making sure I wouldn't wake her. Raven relaxes just a little against the small omega in his arms and he closes his eyes exhausted from tonight. I tiptoe my way out of my bedroom and make my way down stairs into the kitchen. The light in the room was still on, allowing me to peek my head around the corner and see if someone was in the room.
My dad sat at the island, typing on his laptop. Once he hears me his ears perk up just a little bit. He looks up at me and takes his glasses off and sets them on the granite countertop. "You're still up?" He questioned me.
"Ella just fell asleep." I stated, walking to the pantry, I opened the door and grabbed a bag of chips and some cereal bars.
"How is she?" He cleared his throat.
"Her heart is broken, I think we got so used to being in this pack and the rate of omega's being denied by their mate had dropped drastically low. That we would have never fathomed it being a possibility." I sat the snacks down on the bar and made my way over to the fridge. I grabbed a few water bottles and sat them down.
"Alpha Kent is working on making it a rule to accept mates no matter what they are caste wise, or race wise. The moon goddess puts those two souls together for a reason. I honestly never could fathom a world without your mother in it." My dad stated, his eyes twinkling in adoration for my mom. "You didn't hear this from me by the way." (A/N: Race in this story is not to do with skin color but fictional species, ex. Vampires, humans, etc.)
"But it's not a rule now, and the elders wouldn't give a damn about making it an official pack ruling anyways." I mumble, tapping my thumbs on the counter top.
"That's not true Aug, you know it. Ever since Luna Graciella has been our Luna she's making them see reason on Omega's." He picks up his glasses and puts the earpiece in his mouth, chewing on the end.
"I'll believe it when I see it. My friend just got denied because of her caste in the wolf world. Just because she was an Omega, she didn't deserve it. Her mate is going to end up living a full life once he gets over his broken heart. She could possibly die from this dad." My voice started to break. "I can't lose my friend dad."
Tears freely fell from my eyes. My dad's chair he sat in scraped against the tile as he stood up. He then pulls me into his embrace. "You wont lose her, you and Raven are too stubborn to let her go. You'll just have to make sure you take care of her and make sure she takes care of herself as she heals." I let out a small sob.
My chest hurt for one of my closest friends.
