Allison's Point of View.
Over the last two days other than classes I have been in the library with Hermione. While she has been doing her research about House Elves I have been reading through the Grimoire. I have been meaning to ask either Professor McGonigal or Professor Bins about it.
Right now she and I were in the Library before out first Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson with Professor Moody.
I look from the Grimoire to my watch and my eyes widen when I realise the time. ''Hermione we should go if we want to make it to Defence Against the Dark Arts,'' I tell her. She looks up from her books and nods at me before closing them and gathering her stuff.
Together she and rush towards the classroom. As we neared we saw Harry and Ron standing together talking. ''We were in the,'' Hermione didn't get to finish as Harry answers for her.
''Library,'' he nods his head understanding. ''Come on let's go in so we can get some decent seats,'' Harry tells us. We all rushed into the classroom and took the four seats right in front of the teachers' desk.
We all get out our copies of The Dark Forces: A Self-Guide to Protection. We all looked towards the door when we heard the familiar sound of his attachable leg.
As he walks into the room he looks over everyone in the room. ''You can put those away. You won't need them,'' he tells us, as he walks behind his desk.
We all put our books away and look at him. He took the register looking over each and every one of us as he calls out our names.
''Now I have gotten a letter from Professor Lupin. It seems you have been thorough in tackling dark creatures,'' he tells us before going and listing what we had covered. Harry, Ron and Hermione and I all shared looks when he mentioned Werewolves.
''But you are very behind in covering curses,'' Moody tells us. ''But before we do that one thing I am confused about is how you didn't cover vampires when you had a clan of them staying at the castle last year,'' Moody asks looking around the room.
''Not to mention you have a half-vampire in your class,'' Moody says coming to stand in front of my desk. ''Stand up Miss Weasley or should I call you Miss Cullen?'' He asks when I stand up.
''Never mind that can you explain to the class how you can kill a Cold one that intends to attack,'' he asks me.
''You would need to tear the vampire apart from limb to limb and then set the pieces on fire to be thorough,'' I tell them. Moody nods at me in away of saying well down.
''And how can you tell when to weary around a vampire?'' he asks me. ''The eyes. If they are a golden yellow, they drink animal blood. If they have blood-red eyes they drink from humans,'' I list off.
If their eyes are mostly black that means they haven't hunted in a while and you are at risk of becoming their victim,'' I tell them repeating what Carlisle had taught Hermione and I over the holiday.
''How do you get turned into one?'' Dean asks confused. I look behind me and see everyone looking at me in curiosity. ''If I vampire bites you, their venom will spread through your body and change you into one of them,'' I tell them.
''Well done Miss. Weasley, now that you know about vampires we can move on to curses,'' he tells the class after he had told me to sit down.
''I am here to bring you up to speed on what wizards can do to each other. Now I have one year to teach you about Dark,'' Moody didn't get to finish as Ron spoke. ''Aren't you staying?'' Ron asks. Moody's eye narrows in on Ron and after a while, he smiles bringing relief to Ron.
''Your Arthur Weasley's son aren't you. Your father got me out of a tight corner a couple of days ago. But yeah I am only staying for one year as a favour to Dumbledore. At he end of the year it would be back to retirement for me,'' Moody tells us all.
''So into curses,'' he says clapping his hands together. ''They come in many strengths and forms. Now according to the Ministry of Magic, I am supposed to teach you counter-curses and leave it at that,'' Moody tells us.
''Your not aloud to see what dark curses would look like till you all are in sixth year. Your classed as to young to deal with them till your all in sixteen,'' Moody tells us.
''Dumbledore However has got a higher opinion of your nerves. He recons you all can cope with it all and I reckon the sooner you know what your up against the better,'' Moody says looking over all of us.
''How are you supposed to defend yourselves against something you haven't seen?'' he asks us.
''A wizard who would be about to place an illegal curse on you won't tell you what he is about to do. You all need to be prepared, alert and watchful. You should put that away Miss. Brown while I am talking,'' Moody says.
I turn and look and see that Lavender was showing Parvati, something under her desk. Lavender blushes and puts what ever she was showing away in her bag.
Moody turns to face us all with his hands held behind his back. ''So do any of you know what the unforgivable curses are?'' He asks us looking over each of us.
Hermione, Ron and I all raised our hands in the air along with a couple of other people in the air. Professor Moody though his magical eye was still focused on Lavender called on Ron.
''The Imperius Curse, I think it's called. Our dad told us about it,'' Ron says gesturing between me and him. Moody nods looking between the two of us. ''Yes, your father would no about that one. Gave the Ministry a lot of grief about it a few years back,' Moody says.
Moody walked around and opened a draw in his desk and lifted out three jars each holding one spider. I looked at Ron and saw him recoil and pale.
I looked back at Moody and saw him reach into one of the jars and bring out a spider. Moody pointed his wand at the Spider and muttered under his breath. ''Imperio!'' Under Moody's control the Spider jumped on a silk thread and begun swinging back and forth.
The Spider continued that before going into a back flip landing on the table. It then begun to do cartwheels in a circle on the desk before standing on its hind legs and started tap dancing.
Everyone in the room was laughing but Hermione and I. I knew that this was serious and that we needed to take it seriously. ''You think that's funny, do you. Would it be funny if it was happening to you,'' Moody growled at everyone laughing.
The laughter died all most instantly. Moody then turned his attention back on to the spider. ''Total control,'' Moody mutters as the spider curled up into a ball and started rolling everywhere.
''I could make it do anything. I can make it jump out the window. I could make it drown it's self or jump down any one of your throats,'' Moody says causing Ron to shudder at the idea of the last one.
''Years back there were a lot of witches and wizards being controlled by the Imperius Curse,'' Moody tells us talking about the time when Voldemort was at large.
''It was some job for the Ministry. Trying to separate those who were being controlled and those who were acting on their own free will,'' Moody explains to us.
''The Curse can be fought and I will be teaching you how. It takes real strength of character and not everyone has got it. Better avoid getting hit with it, if you can,'' Moody tells us. ''Constant Vigilance,'' he tells us.
''Okay does anyone else know any other unforgivable curses?'' Moody asks as the spider rests in his hand. Once again mine and Hermione's hands raise in the air and to everyone's surprise so does Neville's.
Moody points to Neville. ''There is the Cruciatus Curse,'' Neville tells him his voice is small and distant. Both of Moody's eyes zero in on Neville.
''Your the Longbottom kid aren't ya?'' Moody asks him. Neville nods his head and Moody nods. He turns back and places the first spider back into it's jar before reaching in and grabbing the second.
Moody places the Spider on the desk and it stays there to scare to move. ''The Cruciatus curse,'' Moody says looking at each of us. ''It needs to be bigger for you all to get the picture,'' Moody says before looking at the spider and pointing his wand at it.
''Engorgio!'' The spider grows in size and Ron backs as far away from the desk as possible.
With his wand still pointed at the newly grown spider, he muttered the spell under his breath. ''Crucio!'' The spiders legs bent and the spider rolled on it's bag and twitched in pain.
No sound came from the spider but if it did I wouldn't be surprised if it would be screaming it pain. With his wand still pointed at the spider, it began to violently jerk.
''Stop it,'' Hermione says. I look to her and see her looking at Neville. His knuckles were pale white as they were clenched on top of his desk, his eyes wide in horror.
Moody raised his wand and the spider's legs relaxed but still twitched in pain. ''Reducio!'' Moody mutters under his breath before picking up the spider and placing it back in its jar.
''Pain, if you can perform the Cruciatus Curse you don't needs knives or anything else. Now, who knows the last curse?'' Moody asks.
I look at Harry and wince as I was reminded of what he went through as a kid. I look at Hermione and see she hasn't bothered raising her hand. I swallow but raise my hand knowing what was going to happen to the last spider.
''Miss Weasley,'' Moody calls on me. I look him in the eyes and tell him in with my voice shaking. ''The Killing curse,'' I tell him.
''Yes, the last and worse curse of them all,'' Moody says before turning around and facing getting the last spider out of it's jar. The hairs on the back of my neck pick up as the intensity in the room grew making me uneasy.
He placed the Spider on the table and it tried to get away. With Moody's wand raised at the spider, I couldn't look away. In my mind, I flashed back to reading the book and a certain spell I saw in it.
''Bulla'' (A spell from Legacies. I just want to involve this type of magic in this story.) I mutter under my breath as it popped into my head as Moody cast the spell.
A bubble-like shield surrounded the spider and as the spell hit the bubble it disappeared. The bubble-like shield then disappeared. Everyone looked at the alive spider in shock even Moody.
Moody gets over his shock and summons the spider and looks it over. ''I don't understand,'' he mutters. Once he gets over his shock he puts the spider in the jar before turning to look at us.
''The killing curse. Other than the spider which I will figure out latter. There has only ever been one person who has survived it and he is sitting right in front of me,'' Moody says looking at Harry.
''Avada Kedavra's a curse that needs a powerful bit of magic behind it. You could all get your wands out and point them at me and say the words. I doubt I'd get so much as a nose bleed. But that doesn't matter, I'm not here to teach you how to perform them,'' Moody tells us.
''Now, if there is no counter curse then why am I showing you? I am showing you because you need to know. You have got to appreciate what the worst is. You do not want to find yourself in a situation where you are facing any of those curses. The last one especially,'' Moody tells us.
''CONSTANT VIGILANCE,'' he yells at us making all of us jump. ''Now if you use any of the unforgivable curses on a human you will earn a one way ticket to Azkaban,'' Moody informs us.
''That is what you are up against. That is what I have a year to teach you. You need to be prepared and armed. You need never-ending practice in constant never-ending vigilance. Get your quills out and write all of this down,'' Moody orders us.
We all do what he said and get out our quills and ink. We then spend the rest of the lesson taking notes on all three curses. When the bell rung Neville was quick to gather up his stuff and rush out of the room.
Hermione who was worried for him had rushed us to do the same so we could check up on him. ''Hurry up,'' Hermione hisses at Harry and Ron. Ron groans, ''not the ruddy library again,'' Ron says. Hermione and I roll our eyes. ''No, we want to check on Neville,'' I tell them.
''Neville?'' Hermione asks as she and I come to stand next to him with Ron and Harry standing behind us. Neville looked at the four of us. ''Oh hello, an interesting lesson wasn't it. I wonder what's for dinner. I'm starving aren't you?'' he asks us his voice coming out at a higher pitch.
''Neville are you alright?'' I ask him. ''Oh yeah, I'm fine. Very interesting dinner, I mean lesson. What's for eating?'' Neville asks.
I raise my eyebrows. Just as I was about to ask him if he was alright again the familiar clunk of Moody's leg filled the silence.
''It's alright kid. Come up to my office and have a nice cup of tea we can chat,'' Moody tells him a lot more softly than we have ever heard him. His eyes then turn on Harry. ''Your alright aren't you Potter?'' Moody asks. Harry nods his head.
''Yeah,'' he tells the professor. ''You have all got to know even though it may seem harsh, you have got to know,'' Moody says before looking at Neville.
''Come on Longbottom, I've got some books that might interest you,'' Moody says. Neville looks at us before following Moody.
''What the hell was that?'' Ron asks staring after our professor and Neville. ''I don't know?'' Hermione says. ''Some lesson though right,'' Ron says looking at each of us.
''I mean I'm not the only one who saw that bubble, shield-like thing appear around the spider am I?'' Ron asks. ''We saw it,'' I tell him before moving forward. ''Let's go down and get dinner,'' I tell them.
''Allison I heard you mutter something under your breath and then that shield appeared around the spider,'' Hermione says coming to stand in front of me. ''You did that?'' Ron asks coming to stand in front of me as well. Harry stands on Hermione's other side looking at me in wonder.
''Okay, maybe I did. It was a spell that I read in the Grimoire,'' I say looking at Hermione when I said the last part.
''You have got to talk to Dumbledore about that book,'' Hermione tells me. ''What book?'' Harry asks concerned. ''Just this book that appeared on a shelf in the library,'' I tell them. ''Don't worry I will go and see Dumbledore after dinner,'' I tell Hermione.
''During whitch, you can tell us about this book,'' Harry tells me. I nod at them before walking around them and walking towards the Great Hall. Harry and Hermione come to stand on either side of me and Ron stands next to Harry as we make our way to the Great Hall.
