**✿❀ ❀✿**
You were quite glad that you had visited the campus prior to the orientation, if not you know you would have gotten lost. The building that you had to meet up with the rest of your major for the orientation was a bit off to the side. You held on to the straps of your tote bag as you walked through the school, you were actually a bit nervous. You'd be surrounded by unfamiliar faces in a campus you weren't too familiar with yet. You took deep breaths in attempt to calm your nerves a bit, but your stomach started to growl. You cursed at yourself for not stopping by the cafe to grab some coffee and a snack before you came to campus. You were so nervous about being late or getting lost that you had completely forgot.
As you approached the building that you were supposed to meet in front of, you were greeted by a crowd of students. You bit on your bottom lip as you got closer, the amount of incoming students that you would be taking classes with was a bit intimidating. Your eyes scanned the crowd, they looked friendly, but you didn't know anyone and they already seemed to have friends.
"Sugawara-san?"
You jumped at the sudden call of your name and whipped your head around to see the owner of the voice. When your eyes laid on the male behind you, a smile spread across your features instantly. "Akaashi-san?! Is that you?"
The man only smiled softly as he stepped closer, "I thought that was you," he chuckled softly, "Are you here for the orientation?"
You sighed in relief and nodded, "I am, are you? It's so nice to see a familiar face!"
Akaashi could instantly see the look of relief wash over you, he too was relieved to see someone he knew, "I am. Looks like we'll be classmates from now on."
You giggled softly and nodded, "Now that I know I won't be alone, I'm starting to look forward to this year!"
"Gather around first years!"
The two of you turned towards the sound of the loud voice, you assumed it was a senpai from your major since the male looked older but not old enough to be a professor. The two of you made your way to join the rest of the group as the orientation began. The orientation consisted of introductions in small groups to taking a small tour of the campus. The leaders of the orientation also explained about club sign-ups that would happen on the first official week of school. There was a lot of information but it was quite enjoyable. You got to know more people and made a few friends, but you ultimately stuck to Akaashi since you'd known him longer. He didn't mind of course, he was also grateful that he was going to be attending university with someone he was acquainted with.
The orientation didn't last too long and you all were dismissed by the time lunch rolled around. You were walking to the front gates of the school with Akaashi when you felt your stomach growl loudly. Your eyes widened and you chuckled sheepishly as Akaashi shot you a concerned look.
"You want to go grab a bite to eat?" He suggested as he started to laugh.
You nodded, "...yes please! I... may or may not have skipped out on breakfast this morning," You puffed your cheeks as you scratched the nape of your neck.
Akaashi only shook his head at you in disappointment, "Where should we go?"
"Hm... I'm not sure... let's just walk around and see what piques our interests?"
The other male nodded in agreement, he didn't know the area too well either. But since it was near a university there were bound to be tons of restaurants to choose from. As the two of you approached the font gate a voice started to call out to you.
"(y/n)!!!"
You smiled instantly recognizing the voice of your best friend, "Chikara!" You looked behind you and sure enough you saw the male waving at you as he jogged towards you and Akaashi.
Akaashi was curious, but when he also looked at who you were talking to he smiled softly in recognition. He wasn't surprised that the boy was also attending the same university, he assumed that since the two of you were best friends you had planned it that way.
"Oh? Akaashi-san?" Chikara blinked as his eyes moved from you to the boy you were walking with.
"Hello, Ennoshita-san," the boy bowed his head slightly in greeting.
"What a coincidence we're all going to the same university! How did you guys meet up?" Chikara tilted his head slightly as he glanced between the two of you.
"We're gonna be in the same major!" You cheered happily as you clasped your hands together.
Chikara nodded, "Ah I see.... What are you guys doing?"
"We're about to go find a place to eat, Sugawara-san forgot to eat breakfast," Akaashi replied as he glanced over at you, another look of concern and disappointment flashed across his handsome features.
Chikara sighed, "Some things never change. Mind if I tag along? I was just about to go to lunch as well."
You pouted at the two boys but nodded in response to Chikara's question, "I was so nervous I forgot okay?!"
The two boys only chuckled as you all turned to walk once more. Making your way through the streets that surrounded the university, there were many restaurants. You pointed out the onigiri place that you had gone to the other day and told them that they should try it. After browsing through a couple more restaurants, the three of you had decided to eat at a donburi restaurant. After sitting at the table and putting in your orders, the three of you talked about how everyone was doing from the teams. Being able to catch up with Akaashi was refreshing, it was also nice to hear how your acquaintances from the other tokyo team, that Karasuno had gotten close to, were doing.
"Oh, I heard that our university has volleyball as an intramural sport. Do you think you two would join?" Akaashi mentioned as he broke his chopsticks apart so he could start eating.
"Really? If it's for fun, I think I'll definitely do it!" You grinned happily, "I stopped playing competitively back in high school."
Chikara thought about it for a second, "I wonder how much time you'd have to dedicate to it... If it's not too much I would do it. At least since we're all first years the classes and assignments shouldn't be too intense..."
"We should just make a team together!" You grinned happily before you started to eat your food, "They would probably have like mixed teams right?"
Akaashi thought for a second to the information he stumbled upon the day before, "Yes, I believe they do. We would need at least three more players to make a team though... Ah- do you guys remember Konoha-san?"
You pursed your lips together in thought, "Ah- he was on your high school team, right?"
Akaashi nodded, "Yes. He is also attending this university so we could maybe see if he would join us..."
The thought of playing volleyball again made you excited and happy, even though it wasn't competitively just the fact that you could play some matches was enough. After talking a bit more the three of you finished up eating and left the restaurant.
Akaashi waved, "I'll head out now, see you at school."
You and Chikara waved back at the other as he walked away. You turned to Chikara with a smile, "Are you heading back to the apartment?"
Chikara shook his head, "Not yet, I gotta go do some grocery shopping... You want to tag along?"
"Eh.... not really..." You laughed softly, "I'm gonna go grab some coffee. Are we still having dinner together?"
Chikara laughed as well, "Yeah we can. I'll text you when I get back."
You nodded and waved to the other before you started to walk towards the cafe. You didn't have your daily dose of espresso yet, and a nice cup of coffee sounded good right about now. You head to the cafe that you tended to frequent these days and in your opinion had the best coffee in the entire area. After a short walk you could see the recognizable store-front just up ahead. You skipped the rest of the way out of pure excitement. You pushed open the door and that same smell you've come to love, greeted you happily. You walked straight up to the counter, but as you looked around you didn't see Kuroo anywhere. He probably had the day off.
"Are you getting the usual? Vanilla Latte?" The worker behind the counter, whom you now know as Yusuke, asked.
You chuckled and nodded, "Sounds about right!"
The male chuckled as he punched in your order. You handed him your card to pay for the drink as you glanced around the cafe, "It's not too busy today, huh?"
"Ah, it's normally slow around this time. It's too late for the morning birds, but too early for the night owls."
You laughed, "I guess you're right about that. Only us coffee addicts come in at this time!"
The male shook his head, "That's not a bad thing, you don't have to fight for seats around here."
You nodded in reply, "True."
With that you walked off to your normal seat by the window, taking the order number with you. Instead of your usual sketchbook and pencils, you decided to travel with a little less since you knew you'd be getting papers from the orientation. You pulled out your ipad and laid it on the table while you dug around your bag for the pencil you could use with the ipad. After setting up the table like you normally have it, you got to work on doing some digital sketches. Although you liked to draw your own characters, as a side hobby you also create some fanart of your favorite characters from manga or anime. You would also secretly post them online for many to enjoy under a pen name.
As you sketched you decided to just keep your headphones off, since Kuroo wasn't there you knew you'd probably embarrass yourself if you couldn't hear the worker that would drop off the drinks. You glanced around to take a good look at the worker that seemed to be dropping off the drinks today, he had light brown, fluffy hair and he seemed quite tall as well. After a couple seconds, you recognized it as the guy that was dropping off drinks the other time you just popped in to get take out. Something about him seemed familiar, but you couldn't think about where you had seen him even if your life depended on it.
You brushed it off and decided to continue your work. Today's drawing was a rendition of a character from the popular show, Naruto. It was coming along quite well in your opinion. It still held the many characteristics of the original animation style, but it also looked like it was your own style. Just as you were starting to work more on the details of the picture, a tall male had approached your table. You glanced up and were greeted by that worker that was delivering the orders to the tables. He smiled brightly at you, but when you smiled back his facial features faltered a bit; awestruck by your smile.
"You ordered the vanilla latte... and the blueberry muffin?" He shook his head to regain his composure, it was unusual for him to lose his nerve in front of a girl. It was always the other way around, not this.
"Yup! That's me!" you moved your headphones and ipad to the side a bit so he could place the items down.
As he placed them down on the table for you, he couldn't help but glance at you one more time. Realization hit him that he had seen you before, you were the one that his coworker/friend Kuroo was talking with the last time.
"Oh- You're Kuroo's friend, right?"
You blinked and nodded, "Yeah! You remember me?"
"Of course! I wouldn't forget a gorgeous face like yours! It would be a crime if I did so!" he cooed as he crouched next to your table so he could talk comfortably with you.
You blushed slightly and shook your head, "You're exaggerating. But, I'm glad you remembered my face... to be honest you'll probably see me around her more once the semester starts up."
"Oh? You're a student?" The brunette tilted his head as he rested his chin on his hands leaning on the table.
You nodded, something was definitely familiar about him, "Yup! I'm a first year at the university down the street, so I'll be coming here to study."
"Wow! You got looks and brains! A total package!" he cooed once again, his eyes not leaving you for one second.
You flushed a bit darker and furrowed your eyebrows as you looked away, "Lying is bad for your health. You should probably get back to work."
"I'm not lying! If you let me take you out to dinner, I'll prove every last word I just said!"
"W-WHAT?!"
"If not, at least give me your email! Or tell me your name!"
You shifted in your seat, the way he was so straightforward with his compliments and asking you out made you uncomfortable. Not because you didn't like it, but because you weren't used to getting asked out by guys. Well, that was a lie, in high school you were confessed to a lot, but this was different. He was so persistent on top of the fact that he was good looking.
"U-um..." you stuttered, unsure of what to say.
"Oi! Shitty-kawa! Leave the lady alone! Quit bothering people!"
Both you and the brunette beside you jumped at the sudden yell. You looked up to see who it came from, but your eyes went wide. The male that had just walked in, he had spiky brown hair, a little shorter in stature compared to the male in front of you, and he seemed quite muscular. He had immediately walked over and punched the worker in the head to push him away from you.
You continued to watch as the new guy turned back to you, his eyes went wide in realization as well.
"I-Iwaizumi-san?" You blinked, your breath hitching in your throat.
"Eh? Sugawara-san?" He gazed at you a bit before a bright smile appeared on his face. It was definitely you, your iconic silver-ash hair and the adorable beauty mark below your eye.
You gasped and laughed, "Oh my goodness! What the hell?! Of all places, I run in to you here?!"
It truly was a small world, huh?
Iwaizumi only chuckled himself and shook his head. He slid himself into the seat across from you without second thought, "Wow, how've you been?"
"I've been good!" You blushed. In high school, even though you were apart of Karasuno, you admired Iwaizumi as a player. He was strong and skillful. Also handsome. VERY handsome.
"Sorry about Oikawa... Seems like he never seems to stop bothering you, no matter how long he hasn't seen you..." He sent a glare at the male who was pouting and rubbing his head where Iwaizumi had punched him.
"Oikawa?" Your eyebrows furrowed in thought before you glanced over to the other male, "Ah! That's where I knew you from!" You nodded and turned back to Iwaizumi not giving Oikawa another bit of your attention.
"What? Iwa-chan you know this beautiful girl?!" Oikawa got up and pouted more as he made his way back to the table.
"Stupid, it's Karasuno's manager! The sister of the one you called 'Mr. Refreshing'! How could you forget that you used to hit on her ever chance you got during tournaments?!" Iwaizumi sent another deadly glare towards the male.
This time he brushed it off so he could get a better look at you, sure enough Iwaizumi was right. It was the girl he fell head over heels for, with just a glance, during their third year in high school.
"My lovely Suga-chan! You have returned to me once more~!" He was about to reach out to caress your cheek but Iwaizumi shoved him away.
"Leave her alone, trashy-kawa."
You laughed and shook your head, "Well it's nice to know some things never change, I guess..." You turned your attention over to Iwaizumi, "Oh, I forgot to ask what you were doing here?"
"Oh, I just came by to relax a little while I waited for Oikawa to finish work. We were gonna get some dinner after this."
You nodded and took a sip from your coffee, humming softly to yourself at the taste, "I see..."
"You mind if I just sit here? I won't bother whatever you were doing and I'll make sure that nuisance doesn't bother you again..."
You nodded, "Sure! and you're never a bother, Iwaizumi-san!"
Oikawa pouted at how you were so willing to talk to his friend, but with him you were always so hesitant. He sulked as he walked back to the counter to continue working, knowing he'd be stopped if he attempted to talk to you again. Especially since Iwaizumi was there.
You went back to continuing your drawing as Iwaizumi proceeded to pull out a book to read. You started to focus on your drawing once more, this time leaving your headphones off in case Iwaizumi wanted to talk. But instead the male took the time to continue reading his book. He couldn't help but glance up at you over the top of his book. Your face seemed to glow with the bits of sunshine that peered in through the window the two of you were sitting by. A slight blush spread across his cheeks as he continued to gaze at you. You seemed so fixated on whatever it was you were drawing, it wouldn't be bad if he took the opportunity to look at you... right?
He felt a little guilty for hitting Oikawa, but he couldn't stand the fact that you looked uncomfortable by his forwardness. Iwaizumi was caught off guard when you suddenly looked up at him and smiled brightly, a darker shade of red burned his cheeks.
"Are you wondering what I was drawing?"
"Y-yeah..." Iwaizumi stuttered, thankful that you assumed what he was doing instead of noticing that he was staring at you.
