Caroline's POV
Tonight we are having King Horik and his sons over for dinner and I'm so excited I can't wait to Erlendur. My servant who is also best friend helped me into my most beautiful dress that I own. I put earings and a necklace on. I put my hair up in a bun with little braids at the top. When I was finished I walked out and was greeted by father.
"My daughter you look so beautiful." He said
"Thank you father." I said. I felt a tug on my dress and looked down to see one of my brothers. I picked him up and started playing with him. He left and went to go play with my other brothers. I heard footsteps and knew that King Horik was here. I walked out of the play room and walked next to my father. When King Horik, Ari, and Erlendur were walking over to us I saw Erlendur smile at me.
"Ragnar how good it is to see you. Ah Caroline you look so beautiful." King Horik said and I blushed.
"Thank you King Horik." I said and did a little bow.
"No need to bow to me Caroline you are one of my friends and my fiends don't bow to me." Horik said
"It is an honor to be your friend Horik." I said
"Good now let us eat dinner." Ragnar said. Once we sat down Erlendur was still staring at me and blushed so hard.
"So Horik Ari and Erlendur are coming with us to the west." Dad said
"Yes they will joins us and if your daughter wants to join us the she can." Horik said
"Really? I can I go father?" I asked
"Of course you can my daughter you are old enough." Dad said
"Thank you father." I said
"I will train you too before we go." Ragnar said
"Thank you." I said and we began to eat dinner.
2 months later
Today father is training me for our raid to the west and I'm so excited.
"Ok Caroline don't hesitate. Use your shield and sword." Ragnar said
"Ok." I said held my sword. We walked in a circle not breaking eye contact with one another. Father came at me first and I dodged it. 5 minutes later Ragnar was on the ground and my sword at his throat.
"Good job my daughter you will an excellent shield maiden." He said
"Thank you father." I said
"You are ready and we leave in a weeks time." He said
"Ok I'm so excited." I said and jumped up and down. I heard laughter behind me and when I turned around I was so embarrassed.
"You will be an excellent shield maiden." Horik sad
"Thank you." I said
"You are welcome." He said
"Our father is right." Ari said
"You will an excellent shield maiden." Erlendur said
"Thank you Ari and Erlendur." I said
"You are most welcome." Ari and Erlendur said at the same time. We left to go to the great hall. When we got there I put my sword and shield on my bed.
"Hey Christina I'm back." I said
"Hello Caroline how was training?" She asked
"It was good. I defeated my own father." I said
"That's great news. Would you and your friends want some water?" She asked
"Sure and Christina these are my good friends Ari and Erlendur King Horiks sons." I said
"It is a pleasure to meet you too." She said and did a little bow.
"It's nice to meet you too." Erlendur and Ari said. We all sat down near the fire while Christina got us some water. Once Christina gave us our drinks she left.
"So Caroline are you excited to go west?" Ari asked
"Yes." I said
A week later
Today is the day we are leaving to go west. I'm pretty excited. I just finished getting ready and went to say goodbye to my brothers and Aslaug I'm going to miss then dearly. I hugged my brothers goodbye and said goodbye to Aslaug.
"Stay safe and close to your father." She said
"I will and Aslaug I'm glad that we became friends." I said
"Me too Caroline me too." She said
I walked over to the boats and waited at the docks for my father. Soon I saw Horik and his sons come into sight. I smiled at them.
"Are you ready Caroline?" Horik said
"I was born ready." I said
"That's the spirit." Erlendur said
I saw my father and my good friend Athelstan.
"ATHELSTAN!!!!!!!!!!!!" I screamed and ran to him and hugged him
"Hello to you to Caroline." He said
"Ready to go raiding?" I asked him
"Yes I am let's go." He said an he climbed into the boat first and helped me in.
"Thank you." I said
"You are welcome." He said
"Where's Jarl Borg father?" I asked
"He is not coming with us because me and King Horik don't want him to." Father said
"Oh ok." I said and by now we were moving. I have a bad feeling that something will happen with Jarl Borg while we're gone on this raid.
