"No." Lies come naturally to me. "But I'm assuming you're Inoto's dad? Nice to meet you." I bow slightly like a well educated human being.
He nods his head, sighing. "Do you know Enya Nokashi? Do you go to the same school as Ino? What's your name? Akashi warned Enya might drop by. She has... dark hair and bags under her eyes." He says, looking at me suspiciously. "And, uh, do you know anyone like that?"
"Well, many teenagers resemble that description." I reply with a gentle smile. "If you don't mind, can I meet her?"
"I should ask her first. The doctors said I should-"
"We know each other well." I say politely. "Besides, I think you should check on your wife. She seemed teary on her way to the restroom. I'll keep an eye on Ino."
Mr. Senya's face visibly falls, which leads me to the conclusion that this has been happening often. It's been two weeks already. How long does sadness last? Does it stay forever for some? Can those forever sad people live normally?
Am I one of them?
For the first time, in my last teenage year, I understand what an existential crisis might feel like.
