Since Valentine’s, the group of friends got close again. Momo was gloomy for the rest of the week because of the oppa incident but with help of her friends she could forget about it quickly. Dahyun became aware of her beauty and the power she held. She became self-conscious of her appearance and Sana helped her to doll up at home, sharing beauty tips that Jihyo assured she didn’t need yet as she was pretty as she was.
Dahyun and Tzuyu were now cordial with one another because for some unknown reason to the unnies, there was tension between them. On the contrary, Chaeyoung was as unproblematic as ever. Sana and Jihyo were still a bit strained as the Korean hated to see her flirting with all of her friends so cheekily but Momo always interfered before an argument occurred.
In the other hand, Momo and Jihyo were in good terms. The girls made up after talking and crying and arguing for weeks but when things settled up they started over. The main reason the girls fought was because of jealousy. As none of them seemed aware the other’s feelings they ended hurting.
Sana was tired of it, the younger ones already got costumed to the ups and downs in their dynamic but Sana wasn’t having it.
It was July already, just a month before the elder girls’ started their high school days and the younger ones were going to start their second grade at junior high. They tried to spend as much time with their elders as they could because their schedules might clash, having less time to hang out.
At the moment, the group was at Momo’s place. Jihyo and her went to buy some groceries to prepare dinner so the maknaes and Sana were home alone. DaChaeTzu were sit on the carpet while Sana was lying on the sofa. As Dahyun read a magazine, Chaeyoung and Tzuyu giggled among themselves. The pair were holding hands and seemed excited for some reason. Then, Chaeyoung raised her hand and said:
-Unnie, can you help us?
-Sure thing! –replied Sana laughing at her gesture- I’m all ears
-Unnie, how do you know when you like someone?
When the question was done, three pair of curious eyes looked at her as Dahyun seemed interested too. They were so cute.
-Oh, do you like someone, Chaengie? - asked Sana excited
-Well, yeah –replied Chaeyoung- I think I like Tzuyu
The tall girl blushed and Chaeyoung just grip her hands tight, reassuring her point. Dahyun’s eyes went wide in a second, just like cartoon character. Sana would have laugh if the revelation wasn’t this serious and unexpected. Yes, she had noticed they were clingy with one another but she herself was clingy and wasn’t gay. Sana was an open minded person and didn’t mind it, they looked happy.
-Really? -Sana asked- Why do you think so?
-Well, Tzuyu is pretty and I like to be with her all the time
-That is normal –replied Sana calmly- You say the same things about Dahyun
-Yes, but Tzuyu told me she finds me cute and that wants to kiss me. –Chaeyoung said blushing- And my heart beat real fast when she hugs me. Dahyun had never made me feel this way.
-You guys might be confused-Dahyun commented suddenly- you are just real close
-Well, yes -Tzuyu said laughing- we don’t know if we like each other like that, that’s why we are asking
-In the movies, when they like someone, they kiss –Chaeyoung pointed out- so we did to find out.
-I felt funny over here-said Tzuyu pointing her stomach
The pair looked at each other shyly, hands still intertwined. Sana squeal pleased, they were really adorable. Their first love was sweet. Dahyun in the other hand, didn’t took it well. Her face was red but not of embarrassment but fury. The pale girl stood up and yelled, accusing Tzuyu while pointing her:
-I knew there was a reason I didn’t like you, you are gross!
-Dahyun! -Sana yelled back
-It’s true, unnie! –Dahyun exclaimed- That is gross! Friends don’t do that
-Dahyunnie, don’t be mean! - Chaeyoung pleaded while stood up, going close to her
-Stop it, Chaeyoung- said Dahyun as she distanced from her- I don’t want to hear you anymore
-Dahyun unnie –Tzuyu said softly- please calm down
-Shut up- Dahyun yelled once more- this is your fault, you are disgusting!
Chaeyoung was hurt by her reaction but also pissed. Dahyun shouldn’t talk like that to anyone, specially Tzuyu. The shortest girl closed the gap, trying to reach for her but Dahyun slapped her in the face instead. It was so sudden both Sana and Tzuyu gasped at the same time. After it, Chaeyoung lose her temper and started a fight. Sana tried to calm them down and contained Dahyun while Tzuyu held Chaeyoung. The short pair was difficult to handle as they gained strength by the furious they were. Kicks and scratches were received in both parts and long gone was the pristine skin Dahyun had in the morning as now it was bruised.
Momo and Jihyo heard the ruckus outside the apartment and came inside in a hurry.
-What on earth is going on?!- Momo cried at the sight
-Don’t stay there just watching –Sana said- come help me!
With the help of Momo and Jihyo, they could stop the fight. Chaeyoung had a black eye and Dahyun had scratches all over her. The elders were perplexed as their sisters were never violent. They tried to calm them down but as they saw each other near, they tried to fight again. Momo and Tzuyu took Chaeyoung to the bedroom to clean the wounds while Jihyo and Sana stay on the living room with Dahyun.
-Look at you, Dahyun! –Jihyo reprimanded her- why did you fight?
The young girl remained silent as Sana help her clean the cuts. Jihyo was disappointed on her as Dahyun knew how their parents disapproved on violence to resolve situations. Now she fully understood how they felt when receiving a call from school. Maybe she was the reason Dahyun thought it was alright. Jihyo felt ashamed on her own actions and sighed deeply before hugging her sister.
-Don’t do this again, understood? Let´s talk about this at home.
The Korean siblings walked home in silence, as Dahyun didn’t want to talk. She would have to when their mom asks her, but for now she preferred to remain quiet. Their dad ‘shoes were in the entrance and by that time they were surely having dinner. Jihyo patted her back softly as they entered the house.
-Mom, Dad, we are back- Jihyo said, sadly
-Why are you here, honey? - her mom replied from the dining room- Is everything alright?
-Actually…
The siblings went inside the kitchen and when their mom saw them she sighed. She hurried Jihyo to bring the first kid aid to cleanse properly all the cuts. The bruised skin was now turning purple and the woman gave an ice pack to help her heal. Ms. Kim order the kids to put the table as they were going to have dinner before talking about the issue.
Mr. looked at Dahyun when setting the dishes and couldn’t help but frown. He was disappointed, they both knew. As they finished the meal, the Kim couple sent Jihyo to her bedroom but the older kid hid to eavesdrop, she was curious after all.
-Alright, Dahyun, explain yourself.-said Mr. Kim
-First of all, I’m sorry to be a disappointment for you both but I don't think I'm in the wrong.
-Sweety, care to elaborate?- her mom asked this time
-You see, Chaeyoung and I have a classmate. Her name is Tzuyu.
Jihyo's curiosity grew. Was it Tzuyu fault? How come? Wasn't Dahyun arguing with Chaeyoung? Dahyun continued her story:
-She and Chaeyoung become friends and I was ok with that but as time passed, I noticed something weird -Dahyun said with distaste- they were always together. Chaeyoung stopped spending time with me just to be with Tzuyu. She is the culprit Chaeyoung and I fought.
-What did Tzuyu do?- asked her mom again
-She perverted Chaeyoung! I hate her!
-Dahyun- his father warned- hate is never the way. I understand you are upset with Tzuyu but why did you and Chaeyoung fought? I don't understand
-Why are you mad Dahyun? -her mom added
-Because they kiss each other and that is disgusting! -Dahyun acclaimed furious- Girls should date boys not other girls!
Jihyo was shocked . Of all the things that those could fight about, they happened to do it about that. She felt dizzy. Her worst nightmare was happening just a few meters away. Dahyun already made clear her position about it. She hated them. Her own little sister was against her. Her heart was broken thinking about it. Now was the turn of her parents. Jihyo couldn't breathe. She felt the world falling down to pieces. She wanted to run but also to know the truth. After this moment, her life would change.
-Dahyun, -her dad told her- a good Christian open the heart to the ones in need. Be kind with them, show them that you love them even more than you did before.
Dahyun looked at her parents, who waited at her answer with a hopeful smile. Dahyun did her best but with a trembling voice she said, before running to her bedroom:
-I can't do that. I'm sorry
Mr. Kim’s words didn’t reach Dahyun’s heart that night but they consoled Jihyo, who was silently crying at them. Now she knew her parents would never hate her. There was some relief on it. She just needed to be brave and affront them herself. That night she was not, but sometime in the future she would. She could take her time.
