Your (e/c) eyes scanned the room, searching effortlessly for a certain grey haired male. But once your eyes locked on him your stomach clenched slightly at the police bot leaning down to speak to said male whom had the sweetest look on his features.
"And I must apologize for me stepping out of bounds, I should have been more..." the police bots voice was lost at the sight of your form taking steady strides toward them.
A ghostly smile found it's way to his dermas as he cleared his vocals, trying to keep his voice steady. This alone caught the attention of the grey haired male who had simply turned to follow his partners gaze, and once his eyes locked with your own, he gave a gentle smile.
"(Y/n), it's good to see you here. I've been meaning to talk too you." Chief Burns moved slightly so he could extend his hand toward you, which had caused a gentle nod from you and a small smile to the towering bot.
The grey haired male wasn't offended only finding your usually stoic expressions, changing just for a handful of people, to be quite an honor to experience. Suddenly your cold hand had connected with his and he gripped slightly before giving one good shake. Your head was tilted slightly as your hand slipped back to your side, as you ran your other hand through your hair,
"I needed to speak to you too. It's about Chase and I working alone this week. I know it is not my first time working with Chase but is there anything else I need to know before you take your leave?" Your voice was almost monotone, but after knowing you for so long Chief Burns chuckled at your sudden chance in pitch.
The older male nodded, glancing up at Chase who had a shocked expression. The elder man had known he wouldn't be able to quiet down his partner if he had mentioned it a few days earlier.
"I-I was unaware you were leaving sir." Chase's voice was almost out of its usual vocals, but he still had his helm tilted down to look at him and you.
Chief Burns nodded, glancing from him to you then giving another chuckle, his expression never changing from a soft smile. You on the other hand had a tint of red barely visible which he luckily didn't notice, but he caught your hands fidget with the hem of your shirt. The grey haired male quickly composed himself, glancing back up at his robotic friend and giving him a deep sigh.
"It must have slipped my mind. I knew I was forgetting something, thank you for reminding me (y/n). I have a meeting on the mainland, and (y/n) seems the only one suitable to take my place while I'm gone." Chief Burns gently placed a hand on your shoulder, giving a heart warming smile as he guided you along.
Chase followed behind, keeping his distance but still trying to be included in the conversation.
"Now (y/n), I'm not going to tell you how to do my job. But it's usually quiet and there's usually nothing to worry about, just patrol around and that will be enough." Chief moved to the platform that lead to the garage, his hands moving to the panel and clicking a few buttons.
"You will be staying here, as I've mentioned before. The guest room already has clean sheets and I'm positive Cody will guide you around. If there's anything else you need help with along the routes, Chase will be there to help which you already knew." The elder man let out a nervous laugh, trying to keep his composure until Chase cleared his vocals loudly.
The two of you glanced back at the bot, who held a small smile that had made your body tingle. His eyes glowed brightly with a familiar twinkle in his optics that only Chief Burns could see.
"It's a pleasure to be working with you, I believe we will make a great team. We won't let you down Chief." Chase gave a gentle head nod to the male while you repressed your growing emotions.
Your stoic expression held its place as you nodded, your body moving to walk toward the elevator. No other words were exchanged as you kept your back to the duo, hoping the feeling within your body would leave soon. Your mind had clouded over with one simple thought and that was to find Cody, hoping the bubbly Burns would make you forget the burning sensation in your chest.
It didn't take long to find the young Burns, he had taken a seat in the living room. The red phone sitting snuggly within his palm as he smiled, most likely talking to Francine. Although he hadn't noticed your appearance, you took a seat along side the plush pillows. Once you sat down Cody finally noticed you, before waving and smiling even bigger. He was one of the few to pick up on your change in expression, even though you expressed so little.
Cody smiled once more before saying his goodbyes and apology's to Frankie for suddenly leaving, then he hung up the phone, the click still ringing in your ears.
Somehow you knew the youngest Burns knew what you were going to say, and even for a child he was very observant and most likely noticed your awestruck gaze. There was a long silence, that you found comfort in just before you moved your lips to speak hoping speaking about the situation at hand would help.
"I need assistance, I do not know what to do about it. I haven't felt this way in so long and I am unsure how to go about it." You glanced over to the blonde, before moving your hands to fiddle with the loose string on the pillow next to you.
Cody smiled, nodding his head waiting for you to continue. His brown eyes seemed to glow in interest, waiting to see what sort of problem you needed help with. For some reason the confidence you had to admit your situation fell flat, the only thing you feel is a wave of distrust and how badly it would hurt to deal with such drama. You took a deep breath shoving those unwanted emotions down before continuing,
"As you know I'll be working with Chase this week, since your dad is leaving to the mainlands. I'm not sure how I feel working with Chase alone, due to the fact Chief Burns has always accompanied me." You felt your heart clench at the mention of the police bot, embarrassment gliding through you at an uncomfortable rate.
This only aided in your eyes to stray away and out the window, hoping he wouldn't catch on to your quick change in composure. Cody glanced to your eyes then back to the phone that sat on the coffee table, before you knew it he was smiling brightly and giggling to himself.
"So you're scared?" Cody's voice only made your embarrassment intensify, and that tiny hint of relief washed over you.
He didn't catch on. You shook your head, still keeping a straight composure as you thought about your next words.
"Not scared Cody. I have a hard time expressing my emotions, and showing others." Your up right sitting position slouched slightly as you leaned back into the couch, your hands gently gripping the hem of your shirt.
Cody gave a small nod, noting how fidgety you had gotten, the smile he held never faltered as he gently leaned closer to whisper.
"It's okay (y/n), everyone gets nervous. I can understand trying to show my dad you're capable of working with Chase." His small voice was reassuring as he gently placed his arms around your shoulders, hugging you gently so you won't get to uncomfortable.
You sighed deeply as you gently patted his back, trying your best to keep your head screwed on and your lips sealed. You understood why you couldn't out right say it.
"Are you okay?" The youngest Burns glanced up at you as you had stopped patting and just laid your hand against his back, which was his sign you were thinking to hard.
"I apologize Cody." You let your arm fall to your side, inching away from the blonde.
His brown eyes scanned your facial features for any sort of sign, or emotion you'd let slip. But to no avail, he sighed half heartedly before standing up. His gaze falling toward the floor before he regained his composure,
"Let's go hangout with the others, I'm sure that'll keep your mind busy for awhile." His large grin made your feel a tad bit better, so you nodded along with his proposal.
You stood up and walked alongside Cody toward the elevator, noticing how he tried his best to keep up his smile. The mention of trying to impress the Chief must have really gotten to him, you understood the weight on his shoulders being the youngest of the family.
~
You glanced at the clock above the bed, the gentle click as each passing second became more and more unbearable. There were many thoughts that rushed through your brain, Chase being the main concern as you watched another minute pass. His voice ringing in your head as you watched the last minute pass before it was 11pm, you couldn't take it anymore.
You pushed yourself from out of the plush bed, wrapping the blanket around your shoulders then taking out your ear buds. You maneuvered yourself quietly out into the hallway, gently clicking the door shut behind you. Kade snoring was the only sound that radiated through the hallway, just until you passed Cody's room then it became much easier to bare. The gentle steps you took toward the stairwell door ached your feet, your body already begging you to go lay back in bed. Although you had worn socks the cold tile still snuck its way through the fabric, causing a chill to roll down your spine.
The walk toward the front door was chilly, even with the blanket wrapped around your shoulders it didn't help shield you from the much colder outside whether. You walked over toward the bench just a few meters away from the Firehouse, although the metal was making your skin crawl with chills and shivers you stayed perfectly still. There was a gentle cool breeze, as the clouds overhead made it hard to see the stars above.
You didn't know how long you sat there for but all you knew was that it was very peaceful, the gentle breeze and occasionally you could hear animals in the brush as well as the trees above you. The longer you sat there the more drowsy you became, hardly noticing that you had already moved to lay on your side. Your head tucked below the blanket nestled snuggly into the palms of your hands, the last thing you could hear was a gentle snore leaving your body.
The moment you closed your eyes felt like only a second before you awoke, gentle and warm digits caressing your side as you slept. You jumped at the sudden realization, adrenaline coursed through your veins as you backed as much as you could into the bench.
"(Y/n), I did not mean to startle you. I thought you-" The vocals made you body tingle and your mind mush, as you stared up at the towering figure over head.
"C-Chase?" You quickly sat up, not noticing that your blanket was nearly soaked and your body was shivering from the cold.
Said bot nodded his helm, his optics illuminating enough light for you to see around you. The gentle droplets of rain still ongoing, but the clouds overhead parted just enough to see a few stars. The amount of time that had passed was unknown, and how long Chase had been with you was unnerving.
"What are you doing out here?" The police bots vocals were stern, scolding you for being out here in such cold conditions.
Although through your still tired state you had managed to pick up on your chattering teeth, and the sudden breeze made you flinch from how icy cold it was. You had a moment to think about your response, hoping it wasn't too noticeable.
"I-I came out to get some fresh air, but I must've fallen asleep. Why are you o-out here?" You could feel your body tense as you restrained another stutter, the cold getting to you know.
Chase however found himself dumbfounded. He himself had no idea why he came out at such late hours, besides a feeling he should be outside. But that didn't stop him from making an excuse as well,
"I too wanted to get some fresh air." His vocals rang with such certainty he found himself believing it.
You however could care less already having enough of the biting cold, just as you were about to stand your body was enveloped in warmth. Chase had lifted you up and into his palm, his digits wrapping snuggly around your smaller frame.
"I can also see that you are cold, I hope this isn't to uncomfortable (y/n)." His voice was so soothing, you were scared it would make you melt.
However you brought yourself out of your shell, leaning into his palm with a happy sigh. You didn't notice the growing warmth along his digits as you snuggled closer, hoping this moment would never end. There was a very long pause as you warmed yourself up, not even noticing how long you both had stayed in that same position. You were so calm and comfortable you barely noticed Chase rub his other digit along your back until he touched a certain spot that made you crumble.
"Mhm," You could barely contain your content sound as you moved slightly so he could massage another part of your back.
Chase could feel his body heat up at your unraveled character, it wasn't his first time seeing you so vulnerable and happy but it still gave his chassis a burning sensation. Before he knew it he had stopped his little massage, and blurted out the only thing he could think of.
"You are very adorable." Your heart jumped at the compliment, almost falling off of his hand if he hadn't gripped you gently.
"T-Thank you Chase." You could feel you cheeks redden more than they already were.
Chase could feel his smile grow, finding more courage within his spark to speak. He gently rubbed a digit along your cheek, finding it for adorable how you stuttered out a protest to the affection.
"I hope you know I like you (y/n).." Once the words left his dermas the world around you stopped.
You could feel your heart pounding in your ears as Chase tensed up beneath you, both of his optics else where as another breeze swept by. Did you hear him wrong?
"W-What?" Unknown to you your response stung his spark, he had no idea how much this would hurt.
Although it hurt he glanced back down at you, his optics screaming at you with the affection and adoration it held. You yourself felt stunned, barely even being able to contain the growing anxiety at the pit of your stomach.
"I... I like you, and I hope you return my affections." His vocals rang with an intense love you swore you'd break, barely even being able to comprehend what had brought you to this point.
You tried your best to open your mouth to speak, but no words came out. The pain in your throat was intensifying, a lump beginning to form as tears threatened to spill down your cheeks. Chase however found your silence defeating, already knowing your answer before you could even speak.
"I apologize, I'm sure this is too sudden for you." His apology burned your heart as he set you back down onto the bench, trying his best to keep his stoic expression.
You nodded, trying your best to build the courage to speak. But there was a rising fear that had you unable to return the feelings, which was a complete lie. You had no idea how to show this type of affection, or if you were capable of returning such a beautiful feeling.
You were knocked from your thoughts as Chase picked you up once more, with each step he took you could feel the realization dawn on you. You could feel your stomach fill with butterflies and your body warm itself up, completely forgetting the anxiety all together.
However you were immediately and gently placing down besides the door leading to the stairwell, Chase and you shared a moment to look into each other eyes. You couldn't read his facial expression, and you were sure he couldn't read your own. You nearly jumped at his sigh,
"I wish for you to accompany me too take Chief to the ferry, I'm sure I have stunned you with my sudden confession. But I hope you can think about what I have said, I do not want this to ruin our friendship." Without another word Chase turned his back and walked back over to the platform.
You wanted to move, to run after him but you just watched as his body disappeared down into the bunker. The weight you felt was ever growing as you turned and opened the door to the stairwell, trying your best to stop your shaking hands and the aching sensation in your chest.
~
You hadn't gotten enough sleep, your body was trembling with the adrenaline coursing through your veins. The day ahead wouldn't be hectic but your thoughts overwhelmed your senses, each and every scenario running on repeat. The comfortable couch you sat on the day before had now become to overwhelming, the plush pillows annoying your restless body. The bustling of the world outside had started up just as you had finally gotten comfortable and your thoughts weren't racing, which wasn't a surprise when the Burns family had started waking up. Just like clockwork, Chief Burns was the first to wake up ready and dressed for his week on the mainland. He didn't notice you were already awake, trying his best to be silent as he moved about the household his bag already packed and his uniform already neatly together.
"Chief, I don't mean to alarm you but you don't have to be so quite. That is if you're not wanting to wake me." Your voice was soft and gentle, from the usual monotone.
Your voice had boomed in his ears making him jump, his eyes scanning around the room until he seen your form sitting up right.
"Oh (y/n) you scared me." His voice was a little high pitched but he smiled over at you, as you hummed in response as an apology.
You brought the blanket against your shoulders, feeling the need to move about and stop your dozing off. The older man glanced at your tired looking form, only remembering now that you had been sleeping on the couch.
"Did I forget to mention you'd be staying in the guest room?" His movements were graceful as he scooped the coffee grounds into the container, letting the machine begin to brew up the bitter sweet smelling delight.
You glanced at the glass pot then back up to the grey haired male, thinking quickly about your response.
"You did mention that Chief. I apologize for saying, but Kade was quite loud. I can see why his room is at the end of the hallway, away from the others." Your voice was still soft, trying it's best to keep up the monotone that it usually had.
Chief let out a chuckle, rubbing the back of his neck. His smile held a knowing but awkward emotion, you could barely keep your eyes open as you glanced back to the now steaming pot.
"I'm sorry about that (y/n) I didn't even realize... I forgot to mention that. If you'd like you can stay in my room, so you're more comfortable rather than sleeping on the couch." His words were jumbled, realizing his mistake in having been a part of the you having to move to the couch.
You shook your head, opening up the cupboard to pull out two mugs hoping this would stop your body from slouching from your lack of sleep.
"It is alright Chief, I understand this trip to the mainland is important. I do not mind sleeping on the couch." Your vocals shook with sympathy, already realizing your slip up before you felt your vision blur together.
Just as you placed the mugs down you rested your hands against the counter, bracing yourself before you fell over.
"(Y/n) are you alright?!" Chief reached his arms out to catch you, but you had already straightened yourself out.
You shook your head then looked back up at the older male, shifting your weight slightly before nodding your head.
"I'm sorry to frighten you Chief, just didn't get enough sleep." You fumbled with your words a bit before hearing the ding of the machine besides you.
Chief hesitated, about to tell you to get some sleep before you reached out to grab the pot, pouring you and him a decent amount of coffee. You tried your best to hide your sleepiness as you moved toward the fridge, pulling out the creamer.
"I know you're going to tell me to sleep, but I promise you I will be fine. I promised Chase I would accompany you to the ferry." Your gaze was set on the mug in front of you as you poured a good amount of creamer in your mug, and gently placing it down beside Chief's mug.
He half heartedly smiled, picking up the bottle and pouring some into his own, before grabbing his bag.
"I recommend taking at least a few hours out of today to rest. I don't want you to overwork yourself on the first day." The grey haired male gently placed his hand against your shoulder, guiding you along toward the elevator door.
You could tell he was more than concerned for your well-being, but somehow you didn't seem to care only focused on the buttons along the silver elevator walls. The pounding in your ears wasn't because of the coffee, you knew fully well just how much the thought of working alone with the police bot made you feel. It was a great feeling but somehow you couldn't express such a pleasure.
Just as the doors slide open you realized you couldn't do it, you couldn't face Chase after he thought you rejected him. But you were to late to even think about hiding or running away, for once the door slid open Chase was already up and waiting for you both. He had a small smile that graced his dermas, making your stomach do flips and caused your heart to race.
"Oh Hello Chief, and (y/n). Are you ready to go?" The monotone vocals directed toward the older male still sent shivers down your spine, just your name rolling out of his dermas made your knees weak completely forgetting how scared you were.
"Good morning Chase, and yes we're ready to go." Chief smiled happily up at the bot, and the gentle sip of coffee followed.
You could feel Chase looking at you, his eyes scanning you over before transforming. Somehow you felt his concern for your tired looking form. You felt Chief guide you toward the car, the door popped open immediately for you. He helped you sit down before the door closed, and Chase was able to speak for only a few seconds.
"I do believe humans need proper sleep." You felt your heart clench, smiling slightly as you nodded.
You tried your best to build up your courage, as Chief popped open the back door and placed his bag in the back seat. Luckily he didn't notice how the atmosphere had change nor did he seem to notice how quiet you both were. And just as he shut the door you realized it was best to be honest, you had to admit to him just how you felt like he had done for you.
"I was thinking... about what you said." Your eyes glanced toward the dash, watching his expression change and a nervous look graced his features.
He waited for a second before speaking, the adrenaline rushing through you as Chief rounded the car.
"And?" He looked so distraught as you glanced back down to your mug of coffee, then you smiled a very spark warming smile toward him.
"I like you too, and I would like for us to try." You took a sip of your coffee just as Chief opened the door, Chase' once shocked expression changed immediately as he tried his best to stop the smile from forming on his face.

Hopefully this was okay, it's been awhile and I was working on this before I left. I also apologize to whomever requested this, I don't remember and I feel bad hopefully you can forgive me. If you still read this book that is...
