This was it, the day of truth. Today was the day all the Hogwarts letters would be sent out to their respectable owners. As a Raiden it was shameful for you not to get a letter, seeing as wizards and witches have been in our family for years. As I was getting ready for the day ahead I looked at myself and started worrying about the worst. That's a trait about me that isn't easy to hide.
"Y/N, come on down dear it will be here at any moment" I spun my head around faster than I could say 'coming' when I heard my mother calling for me. I took one more glance at myself in the mirror and touched my bouncy chocolate brown curls. As I headed down the stairs I prayed I wasn't the one child of the family who was a disappointment. As the richest wizarding family in all of London you were expected to be a wizard to gain the inheritance. The second I reached the bottom of the spiralled staircase, in walks my father with the mail pile. I went and sat down on the couch that was already occupied by my mother. I watched as my father quietly spoke to himself saying the names on the pieces of mail frantically searching for my name.
"Ah here we are, Y/N Raiden" he said which caused me to let out a breath that I hadn't noticed I was holding in. As he handed it to me I read my name in the writing I had seen my siblings get. Me being the youngest of 4 it was quite hard to imagine not making it in. I opened the letter reading only the first few words just so I would know I had made it in. I looked up at my parents who were waiting patiently for me to announce the news.
"Can we wait for Jayden, Cassie, and Julian" I asked knowing they would want to know. My mother looked at me and nodded. It seemed like a decade before my siblings got up and got ready for the day. Once they were finally up they all gathered in the living room anxiously awaiting the final consensus on if I got into Hogwarts or not. I decided to pull a fast one on them to make them think I didn't get in like I saw done on television so many times.
"Dear Y/N, we regret to inform you..." I began without looking up from the paper knowing my family had disappointed looks on their faces.
"Oh Y/N I'm so sorry" my sister Cassie started. I didn't acknowledge her condolences because I had yet to finish reading the rest of the sentence to them.
"... that you have made it into Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry." I finished looking up as my families faces turned from disdain to what one would recognize as excitement. They all ran to give me one big group hug before we all went our separate ways. I had went back upstairs to my room so I could write to the Malfoy boy to let him know of my good news. My mother and father both went to their busy jobs at the ministry and my siblings were packing seeing as we were leaving in a few days.
Dear Draco,
I did it. Well I mean it was kinda obvious I was going to make it in but we both knew how nerve wracking the wait was for me. Why don't you come over for dinner tonight and you can bring your parents. We should all celebrate together. How was your summer? Did you make it in too? I hope you can write back as soon as possible so I can tell mother and father to put out extra plates and I will make my famous chocolate cake. We all know how much you love it. Hope all is well at Malfoy Manor.
Talk soon,
Y/N Raiden
I called for our family owl, hardy, and told it to send my letter straight to Malfoy Manor and wait until Draco responded to come back. Draco has been my best friend since we were born. Our families knew each other and had always stuck us together when we all met up. I think our parents secretly hoped we would get together. As an 11 year old it's really hard to imagine being in a relationship with anyone but it's coming to dawn on me that my teenage years are coming fast and who knows what could happen between me and Draco. As I started to read my books that mother and father had bought me to keep me occupied hardy had come back with a letter attached to his foot.
Dear Y/N,
I'm so proud to know that you made it in to Hogwarts. I made it in too and I don't know what I would do there without you. I would love to come over and celebrate with your family however it will just be me. Mother and father have important business to tend to but they said they can arrange for me to be sent over right away. I can't wait to have some of your famous chocolate cake. My summer has been great but I will tell you more about it when I get there.
See you soon,
Draco Malfoy
Malfoy always loved telling me how his summer was in person. I wondered what he had done this time. Knowing the Malfoy Family it was probably something much more grand than my family had the chance to do. Mother and father had always raised us to not dwell over our wealth and to be kind to those lower than us. Draco's family on the other hand wanted nothing to do with the less fortunate. I put on my nicest dress seeing as I was still in my sleepwear and I definitely didn't want any guests arriving and seeing me in this state. I put on the pearls my mother had bought me as a birthday present just a few months prior and prepared a letter to send to the ministry for mother to read to prepare her for Draco's arrival this evening. As I had often visited the ministry they had understood the importance of my mother keeping in touch with me through owl.
"Writing to Mr.Loverman again?" Jayden teased knowing that the only people I would be sending an owl to is mother and Draco.
"As a matter of fact I am not writing an owl to Draco I'm writing an owl to mother about Draco coming over this evening if you must know." I said as I watched his eyes gloss over with pure joy. Jayden had a habit of teasing me and Draco every time we hung out. I watched as my cheery eyed older brother walked out of my room without saying another word. I quickly sent off the owl and then went back downstairs as soon as I realized just how hungry I was. I walked over to the fridge and decided on a big breakfast for today. As I was in the middle of cooking my eggs I heard someone come downstairs.
"You better be making some for us too little sis?" Said my other older brother Julian who really didn't talk much this morning but I could tell that he was joking.
"She shouldn't be making breakfast for you learn how to make your own" said Cassie coming quick to my defence before I could joke back. Cassie was the more logical one. She would rather have her head in books than go to a Quittich match. Despite her lack of sportsmanship I was super close with my sister. I'm close with all my siblings but I'm definitely the most close to Cassie.
Draco arrived an hour after I had finished breakfast. We went upstairs and stayed in my room where nobody would bother us. At least we thought nobody would bother us there. We soon heard the hushed giggles of my 2 older brothers. Their giggling usually indicated they were planning something. They were never very subtle with anything.
"Okay guys we know your out there" I said rolling my eyes knowing that whatever they were planning wasn't good.
"Aw man did mr.loverman tell you we were up to something?" Jayden asked with daggers shooting out of his eyes at Draco. Did Draco have something to do with this I wondered. Little did I know that this was gonna be answered right away.
"No I didn't tell her anything but are you guys ready for her?" Draco asked as if this was all planned out.
"Well obviously why do you think we were coming to get her?" Said Julian giving me a slight wink and then nodding towards the door as if gesturing for me to follow them. Me and Draco got up and he held his arm out for me to grab. Draco was always a gentleman and it made me wonder if that was his fathers doing or his own because from what I could muster up from his father was he wasn't very nice to Draco at all. I held his arm as the 4 of us headed down the spiral staircase.
"What's going on" I whispered to Draco hoping he would give me some insight as to what was happening.
"You will see" he could barely get those 3 words out before out I heard "surprise!" I looked at Draco who mouthed "your welcome" before he shouted "Now who's ready to celebrate the newest member of Hogwarts!" I was confused when he said 'newest' because he was in my year.
"Wait what do you mean 'newest'?" I asked with confusion clearly clouding my eyes.
"We had been planning this since last week when everyone else got their letters" he said with a sly smile.
"So that means you guys faked me being a witch" I asked out of shock and still being confused.
"No your parents sent an owl to dumbledor at the end of the school year last year asking if your name was on the list and he had said yes almost instantly so your mother asked if he could send your letter a week late. He hesitated at first until she had explained she wanted to throw you a surprise party." Draco said knowing I hated surprises but willingly helped out with throwing me a party he knew I wouldn't want.
As the party came to a close I thanked everyone for coming and waited for everyone to leave before I stormed upstairs not in the mood to discuss tonight with anybody or open any gifts. I was nearly in my pjs when I heard a knock on my door.
"Who is it?" I asked grumpily hoping whoever it was would get the hint and leave me alone.
"It's Cassie please open up" my sister said realizing how hurt I must have felt that they done something so bizarre knowing I would probably hate it. It's not that I'm one of those kids where parties are never enough, I'm just not a social butterfly like my siblings. I opened the door to see her standing there with a cupcake in hand. She came in placing the cupcake on my nightstand before sitting down on my bed. I shut the door and took a seat next to her.
"You know I hate surprises especially when it has something to do with big gatherings." I said looking at the floor as I fiddled with my fingers.
"Yea I know I tried convincing mom and dad not to do it but they wouldn't listen to me especially with Jayden and Julian saying it's a wonderful idea" she muttered hoping I would understand that she didn't want to have this party either.
"Of course they listened to Jayden and Julian over you. They still believe that I'm closer with them than I am you and it's unbelievable. Jayden barely knows my favourite colour and Julian can barely pronounce the name of my favourite book no matter how many times I tell him how to pronounce it." I said with pain threatening to show itself in my voice. All I wanted to do was cry they seemed to think it was a smart idea to take my brothers advice on how they should celebrate with me.
"Anyways kiddo eat your cupcake and head to bed we have a pretty big day ahead of us tomorrow." Cassie said as she gave me a side hug and left my room. Tomorrow was the day we all go to diagon alley how could I forget.
