The gut feeling hadn't gone away, if anything it had gotten worse. Kate had never felt like this before. Something was off, but she couldn't place it. She knew it had to be something involved with school, she felt fine when she was alone. She couldn't focus in class anymore because she was afraid something bad would happen. Kate didn't know how to make the feeling go away.
Throughout the halls, Kate could hear people talking about the Vortex Club party that was in 2 weeks. Kate knew Rachel was going, but she wasn't quite sure if she herself was going to go. Though might be good for her to go to a party, and just forget about everything for a few hours.
Kate had also realized she hadn't been talking to Nathan much lately, he seemed to be going through his own thing. Kate was also going through her own thing, and it would have made her happy if someone checked in on her. So she decided she would ask Nathan how he was doing, maybe they could help each other. Maybe he was also feeling really nervous when he was at school.
"Hi Nathan."
"Oh, um, hi Kate."
"How have you been doing recently, you've seemed," Kate paused "quiet lately."
"I'm fine, you know just school stuff."
"Are you sure, because you seem different."
"Kate I'm fine." Nathan said, sternly.
"Ok, well what did you do over the summer, you must have been busy, I didn't really hear from you." Kate said, changing the subject because she didn't want Nathan to get mad at her. "Ya, I had a pretty busy summer." Nathan said.
"Are you going to the Vortex Club party?" Kate asked.
"Ya, are you?"
"I don't know, I have been kinda stressed out with school, so it might be fun to just let loose for a few hours."
"Ya, you should go." Nathan said. Kate definitely knew something was wrong, Nathan seemed to force the words out, he didn't seem like he was excited to be going, and he looked like he was about to cry.
Kate hugged Nathan, she didn't know what was going on with him, but even if he didn't want to talk about it she would be there for him. "I'll go to the Vortex Club party, we could probably both use it.".
"Sounds like a plan." Nathan said, once again forcing it out.
After talking to Nathan Kate felt even worse, she wasn't the only one who was having a rough start to the year. She didn't think Nathan was feeling nervous like she was, but he was definitely going through something, and maybe what was going on with him was the reason she was feeling so nervous.
Though Kate also saw how defensive Nathan got when she asked him if he was ok. Maybe it was best to let him figure it out on his own, things would get better for both of them eventually.
