"Ashleigh," a soft, sweet, soothing voice rang through her ears. "Ashleigh," the voice was so comforting, and basically singing to her. "Ash." The voice sang, sending tingles throughout her entire body.
She felt her body being shaken and opened her eyes, immediately seeing Peter's deep brown ones looking back at hers. Her lips curved up slightly, seeing that lopsided smile that she loved so much coming from the man who was slowly stealing her heart.
"Morning sunshine." He chuckled. She poked her tongue out at him and shoved him away lightly. She threw the blankets off of herself, swung her legs off the side of the bed and stood up.
"Time to leave?" she asked and picked up the Ben 10 bag when Peter nodded his response. She picked up the walkie-talkie from the bedside table and clipped it onto the pocket of her shorts. Slinging the bag over her shoulder, she walked over to Peter who was double-checking that he had everything in his backpack.
"Let's go." He said and began to leave the house, Ashleigh following after him. The street was empty, but it seemed too empty. Not quite the 'safe' kind of empty, more of the 'if this were a horror movie then that means something's about to jump out and kill me' kid of empty. There was an eerie feeling to the street this morning, and it wasn't just the creaking doors blowing in the wind or the leaves rustling against the gravel road.
As they walked down the long road with caution, Ashleigh tried to heat up her hand again. If there were any Executioners around, she wanted to be ready for them. After a few minutes and some odd looks from Peter, she finally got it.
Peter raised his eyebrow at her in an unspoken question. Ashleigh shrugged.
"It's just in case." She told him. Peter nodded in understanding.
"Does it seem too safe to you?" he asked her.
"Yeah...this place should be crawling with Executioners." She replied. And just as she said it, they heard someone say "Quick, I think there's someone over here."
Peter looked at her. "Run." He demanded and began to run. His feet hurt from running all the time, and his muscles were tired, but he couldn't stop. Because if he stopped, he would be caught. Ashleigh, on the other hand, wasn't yet used to all this 'running for your life' stuff. Her muscles were sore, her feet were sore, and she had barely any stamina left.
Without thinking, Peter ran up to the chain-link fence that was in front of them. He stuck his foot in one of the diamond shapes, and used it to boost himself over. He kept running for a little bit, but stopped when he couldn't hear footsteps behind him. He spun around quickly.
"Ashleigh!?" he called out, unable to see her.
"Peter, I can't climb that fence." He heard her, but he couldn't see her. Finally though, his eyes found her huddled up around the side of a building; the same building that the Executioners were heading for. Peter frowned and then focused. He bent his knees and then jumped up. Ashleigh watched as he disappeared into the sky, leaving a puff of smoke behind him like something out of a cartoon. She looked up, trying to see where he went, when suddenly someone grabbed her from behind. She let out a small scream, until she felt herself being lifted off of the ground. She turned her head to see Peter holding her as he flew. She looked down at the ground below her and gasped when she saw that if she stayed there for even another thirty seconds, the Executioners would've caught her. Once they left, Peter flew himself and Ashleigh down in front of a building, since he didn't have the strength to carry her and fly at the same time. As soon as they hit the ground, Peter pulled her around to the back of the building. That wasn't the smartest thing, though, as there were Executioners there too. He grabbed Ashleigh's hand and pulled her to him. The Executioners walked past, glancing around the back of the building yet completely missing them. Ashleigh realised that Peter must be using his invisibility again. The Executioners left and Peter let them become visible, although he kept holding onto her. He looked at her and pulled her into a tight hug.
"I was so scared that they were going to catch you." He whispered into her ear, making her shiver at their closeness.
"They would've if it wasn't for you." She said with a slight quiver in her voice. Peter suddenly pulled away from her. He looked at her eyes, before letting himself glance quickly at her lips. He wasn't quite sure what came over him, but the next thing he did took them both by surprise. He hooked his forefinger under her chin, and tilted her head up before he leaned down and captured her lips in a kiss.
