"Home is wherever I'm with you."
-
Jo was wandering the corridors one day when she passed Mcgonagall's office. As she passed, she heard voices through the door.
She could hear the professor's stern voice scolding a student, "You cannot go around and beat up another student whenever you feel like it, Mr. Malfoy."
'Draco had beat someone up?' She thought to herself.
Mcgonagall's voice continued, "You're lucking you're not getting expelled." Jo scrunches her eyebrows, leaning in closer to the door, "Mr. McLaggen was in rather bad shape when he showed up to the infirmary today."
Jo's mouth opened in shock. He had beat up Cormac? She heard a mumble of "That is all, you may leave now", signaling Malfoy would be walking out the door any second. She quickly ducked behind the corner before he could spot her.
She couldn't help but let a small smile creep on her lips at the thought of Draco's fist meeting with Cormac's face.
-
two months later......
Draco and Jo haven't been the same for the past two months. Almost no words have been shared between the two, Draco being too busy with his task and wanting to protect the girl he loves. Yes, you heard that right. Loves. Draco knew he loved Jo for about a month now. He realized his true feelings for her while he's been without her. Without Jo, he felt empty. He had no light in his life when she wasn't in it.
Jo has been feeling guilty ever since they last talked. After all, their last conversation was a fight that she started. That fight has been the only thing on her mind these past months, fogging up her head. Draco is distant, and she thinks it is all her fault. Maybe she should've dropped the subject. Maybe she should have trusted him. Maybe she should have ignored Harry. Would they still be on speaking terms if she did? Maybe.
"Hey Enzo?" Jo asks calmly. The two best friends are currently walking to dinner, his arm draping over her shoulder.
"Yes, love?" He answers, turning to face her stare.
"Do you reckon I should talk to my sister?" Enzo stops in his tracks, pulling his arm off of her shoulder.
He sighs, "I think you should do what you feel is best. What is it that you want to talk to her about?"
"Nothing specific," they begin walking again, "I've just gotten the sudden urge to talk to her. Maybe even form a relationship again."
"I think that's very lovely of you, Josephine Granger." She smiles, hugging him tightly, as if she is trying to make up for the loss of contact between her and Draco.
Jo lets go of his tight embrace, feeling a pair of grey eyes on her. From the corner of her eye, she can see the blonde boy she cares so deeply for. Once she meets his cold stare, he turns the corner.
That's how it's been for the past months, random eye contact in the halls. She didn't want to chase after him, if wanted to talk to her, he would. That's why she's been letting Enzo put his arm over her shoulder, to try and get Draco's attention. She doesn't care if the attention is good or not, she just wants to be noticed.
The bright smile of Lila Snape can be seen from across the dining hall. Her pure joy and happiness creating a warm feeling from the inside for both Jo and Enzo. A smile creeps onto Jo's face as she notices Luna next to her.
Luna and Lila had been growing closer each minute these past two months, now inseparable. Jo is truly happy for them, knowing her best friend is happy brings her comfort. Maybe that's why Jo wanted to reconnect with Hermione. Maybe she saw herself losing her best friend.
-
Supper is almost over now. Jo had put off talking to her sister the entire mealtime, silently praying that Hermione would make the first move.
Noticing that her sister has disappeared from her usual spot, she turns to look at the door, seeing Ron's bright red hair peeking through a sea of students. Not wanting to procrastinate any longer, she shoots up from her seat. Her friends flinch at the sudden moment, all of them asking where she is going. Too caught up in her own thoughts, she ignores them. Enzo mumbles something along the lines of 'talking...Hermione' causing everyone to go back to their conversations.
Jo finally catches ups to the three friends, "Hermione," she breathes, her eyes piercing through the back of her sisters head. The hairs on the back of Hermione's neck stand up at the sound of the familiar voice.
"Jo?" Hermione turns around, meeting her sisters brown doe eyes, "Everything alright?"
"Yes, everything is fine," Jo can see the small smiles creeping in on Ron and Harry's faces, "I just uhh," She stops, looking to Harry. He nods telling her to go on, "I was just wondering how you were doing." She confesses, glad to have finally gotten words out.
"I'm doing just fine, and you?"
"I'm," Jo stops to think, "good". Hermione nods at her response. She turns to walk away but is stopped yet again by Jo's voice, "Are you going home for Christmas Break?"
"Uhm no. I'm actually going to the Weasley's." Hermione looked back at Ron.
"Oh." Jo's sadness flows out of her mouth with just the one word, changing the mood for all four of them. Hermione has been so busy with the boys and everything going on with Harry that she hasn't had any time to process what happened between the two. All of her guilt about abandoning her sister is rushing in, leaving her speechless.
Ron, seeing that Hermione can't muster up any words, steps in, "You know, if you want, you can come to the burrow with us." Hermione turns to the red-head stunned at his offer.
A new light is lit in Jo's eyes, "Are you sure? I don't want to impose."
"I'm sure my mum would love more company," he smile, "plus, I reckon you and Mione have some talking to do." Jo turns to sister giving her an awkward smile, this is going to be interesting.
-
"So you're going to the Weasley's then?" Enzo asks. After talking to her sister, Jo had gone back to their table, explaining her conversation to Enzo.
"Yes."
"You're going to the Weasley's?" A high pitched voice pipes in. Jo turns her head to see her best friend's jaw gaping in reaction.
"Yes."
"Since when are you close with the Weasley's" Blaise blurted.
"I'm not," Jo continues, "Ron invited me because my sister is going."
"And since when were you and Hermione back on good terms?" Lila challenged.
"As of two minutes ago. Kinda." Jo sighs, "We haven't actually talked yet. I'm hoping to do that over holiday."
"Good for you, I guess." Lila approved.
"The Weasley's are rather good people. You see, I've met the mum once, she was lovely." Luna said thoughtfully.
-
Hermione's laugh echos throughout the room, painting a smile on all of their faces, "You should've seen her face!" Hermione chuckled, "It was priceless."
"Well how I was I supposed to know the fish was still alive? I swear it was dead before I put it in the toilet!" Jo responded.
"Wow Jo, you really are a fish killer." Ron poked, causing her to roll her eyes.
"I am not! I'm sure bubbles is living a happy life down in the sewers." She countered.
"Bubbles?" Harry laughed, "Really?"
"Yes, something wrong with that Potter?" Jo glares at him.
"Nope, nothing, wonderful name."
The laughter soon dies down, a friendly silence surrounding them, "I've missed you, Hermione."
"I missed you too, Jo. I'm so sorry we haven't talked-"
"It's ok," Jo cuts her off, placing her warm hand on top of Hermione's. Hermione smiles, grateful her sister is as understanding as she is.
Just as Jo was going back to talk, a loud bang comes from outside. The four friends turn their heads towards the window, searching for the source of the noise. Fire is soon surrounding the small house, panic setting over the entire household. Through the glass, black smoke can be seen flying around in the air.
Death Eaters.
The four of them all run out of the room and down the staircase. Bellatrix soon shows herself and sprints into the tall weeds. Harry pushes his way through the door heading after her.
"Do we follow him?" Ron asks worryingly. Ginny pushes through Ron and Jo, heading for Harry.
"We can't let them go on their own, come on!" Hermione insists. The three of them run out of the burrow, following Ginny.
From a distance, Bellatrix's whiny voice can be heard shouting, "I killed Sirius Black. I killed Sirius Black."
She's taunting Harry.
Ron, Hermione, and Jo have now caught up to Ginny, all four of them pushing through the plants. Wanting to be safe, they pull out their wands.
It goes silent, "Harry?" Ginny calls out. Rustling can be heard, a chill is sent down Jo's spine. Fenrir Greyback appears behind the weeds, smirking at the four of them.
As Greyback makes his way towards them, Harry pushes Ginny behind him, "Stupify!" Greyback shields the spell, twisting into the air as black smoke.
The six teenagers are now standing in the middle of a small body of water. The sounds of whooshing send their heads turning, trying to find the two deatheaters. Soon enough, spells are being thrown at the six of them. With their wands, the shield themselves, still trying to find Bellatrix and Greyback.
Trying to protect themselves, they throw spells into the night. The attack has stopped, only the sound of everyone's breathing is heard. Seconds later, the black smoke appears again, signaling the death eaters are leaving. Jo sighs, thankful that they are gone. T
he flames of the burrow have grown, the six being able to see them through the weeds. Next thing they knew, the two death eaters were destroying the Weasley home. Flying through the building, sending smoke up into the air.
From the corner of her eye, Jo can see blonde hair hidden between the weeds, "Draco?" She calls out. The others have sprinted back to the house, leaving Jo alone. "Draco, is that you?"
"Granger." Draco say, stepping into her eyesight, "We need to get you out of here."
"What are you doing here?"
"I can't explain right now, but we need to leave. Now."
"What? No. I can't leave them!" She argues. He grabs he wrist attempting to pull her away.
"Let go of me!" She yells. Her eyes meet with Draco's one last time before she heads back to the burrow. Jo is met with the sight of a collapsing home, gone forever. The Weasley's are all huddled up together, stunned at what just happened. What are they going to go now.
-
a week later...
The halls of Hogwarts are filled with students, big and small. Bits of conversations about winter break can be heard as Jo walks by.
The horrid events over break has left Jo in a depressing mood. She's happy she and Hermione are good again, but the poor Weasley family.
Her mind has also been occupied by Draco. Specifically, why he was at the burrow that night. Was this confirmation he was truly a death eater? She hopes not. The sound of bells echos through the halls, signaling class will be in session soon.
Jo keeps her head down while walking to class, clutching her books to her chest. She passes the boys abandoned bathroom, stopping right before the door. Although the door is closed, shouting can be heard. Curious, Jo opens the door, wide enough to peek her head in. She gasps at the sight in from of her. Spells are being shot back and forth between two boys.
As she continues watching, she can hear Harry's voice, "Sectumsempra!" He shouts.
Jo hears a loud cry and a thud, creating a heart-wrenching sound. She bursts through the door to find Draco lying on the floor, bleeding.
"Oh my God, Draco!" She screams, placing her hands on his chest, attempting to stop the bleeding.
"Harry what the fuck?!" She turns to meet his gaze, anger taking over her, "Get the fuck out!" She spits at him. Snape appears behind Harry, pushing him out of his way. He kneels down to Draco.
"Oh my God, Draco. Please help him, please." She pleads to Snape with a weak voice.
Snape begins mumbling a counter curse, "Vulnera Sanentur. Vulnera Sanentur." He keeps repeating the healing spell as Draco's wounds begin to fade. A feeling of relief washes over Jo, thankful he's going to be okay. Yet the sounds of Draco's cries pierce through her heart, leaving her feeling helpless. She never wanted to see him in pain. Harry is now gone, nowhere to be found in the dark bathroom.
