Winner of the Sci-Fi category in the Typer's Awards! Go check them out!! "Doomsday only matters for the doomed" In a world where 14-year-olds are forced into the wilderness to prove their worth (NSD, or Natural Selection Day), there's a rebellion brewing, one that intends to collapse Glale in a matter of weeks. Which, if you ask most anybody, isn't a problem. Glale is exceedingly corrupt, and the government knows who will pass NSD--and more importantly, who won't. Not everybody's unhappy in Glale, of course. But what those happy campers don't realize is that the things that their loved ones are leaving--soon. How will the main character convince their family to leave their happy life? EXCERPT: "There are many theories that the Council chooses who they want to pass and who they want to fail. But I'd found security in knowing that the Council wouldn't fail one of their members' kids. It really isn't so unrealistic to think they would use me as an example though; they're cruel like that. 'Alesea's weak. We can use her to prove those theories wrong, and not lose too much in the process. Anybody can be trained to follow Clarisse's footsteps. Anyone would want to.' Maybe that's key. If someone got rid of me, their kid could be trained in my place. The thought is horrifying. Sickening. But not unrealistic. It wouldn't take much to rig the randomizer to essentially kill me off. I thought being valuable would protect me. I have been lying to myself."
