Karson James doesn't label himself as the recovering drug addict who's still grieving over his dead wife, but everyone else in Paoli, Indianapolis, does. When you live in a town where everyone knows everyone, you can't keep much of anything a secret. Karson knows this, yet he still wishes nobody knows where he stands at in life. He wants to be invisible, but he guesses that's impossible- he's a rising-to-fame author who spent the last year of his life in rehabilitation. If he wasn't known then, he certainly is now. And he hates it. Cue Callie Ackerman, a small author just like him who has just moved to Indianapolis, specifically right next door to him. It's just his luck- he hasn't had a neighbor in over three years. But when his attempts to scare her away fail, he has no choice but to learn to live with his sassy, unfairly beautiful neighbor. He tries not to let her cloud his senses; he has more important things to think about than a 5'4 woman who's surely nothing but trouble. They try not to talk to each other. They try not to get in each other's way. They want nothing to do with each other, and that's fine with both of them. But sometimes fate has other plans, and it just can't help but bring people together.
