"The eyes are windows to the soul." It's been twenty years since a fluke of engineering allowed the the world a glimpse at its first documented soul. In the chaos since, they've learned the hard way that there're three types of souls and not enough bodies to go around: alphas (a body's initial soul), betas (souls untethered by misfortune), and omegas (souls untethered by choice). Ioli has the sight; she can see untethered souls. Attending graduate school as a soulomamcer-in-training, she had a plan. 1) Get her degree. 2) Get hired into a Haven. 3) Secure her family's safety. Except, she's failed the last step in the most devastating way. After an exorcism-gone-wrong leaves her sister's soul destroyed and her own stuck in the body left behind, Ioli comes out something else. Alpha. Beta. Omega. Suddenly, it isn't clear which she is anymore. Stranded in a body not her own and mourning her sister, it's all she can do to keep fighting for the souls under her protection. With more betas than ever, the reemergence of omegas, and an untethered alliance like none seen before, society is headed toward collapse. And Ioli is caught at the center of it all.
