One of Leonard's experiments (mixing rocket fuel for Howard's minature rocket) became dangerously unstable and he decided to take it down in the elevator to dispose of it safely. Knowing Leonard didn't have enough time, Sheldon dragged him from the lift and pressed the down button, leaving the smoking rocket fuel inside. The elevator exploded. Sheldon saved Leonard's life too!
