(Honestly, I felt this author's note was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY overdue, so I decided to post it. Finally!)

WHY DID I WRITE THIS POEM?

This poem was written on a whim. I had been scrolling through my Pinterest page (if you'd like the link click the "External Link" button at the bottom) and rereading what I'd written so far on my book The Talisman (a Fantasy retelling of 1001 Arabian Nights, currently the most popular book on my profile).

And then I had an idea-- what if I, as the author, wrote a poem of sorts trying to dissuade the antagonist, Sultan Rahim ibn al-Asada, from falling in love with our protagonist, Scheherazade?

It took off from there, obviously, and the total amount of time to write it was 30 minutes or so.

I'm really proud of this poem. I want it to resonate with the readers as they realize that they, too, are intrigued by the woman who wants to scatter her victim's bones and lick the blood off her fingers.

I want then to understand where I'm coming from.

As for who's speaking, I'll give you one hint--it's a female.

Speculate.

Scheme.

Come up with conspiracy theories.

Just remember that this woman was his ruination.

And since you're reading this, she's your ruination too.

And since you're reading this, she's your ruination too
