PLACES

Indra: The nation this story takes place in. A chain of five large skylands, as well as several smaller ones.

Vajra- The holy realm of the Gods, the highest and largest skyland that all the rest of Indra orbits beneath. Only a chosen few Elemei throughout history have ever travelled there.

Komore- The capital of Indra, the second largest skyland. A clean, beautiful, metropolis. Avia Academy's Admission Center is located here. This is the home of Orpheus Travesse and Alison Prophet.

Bassa- A rural skyland most known for its lush, fetile farmland. Indra's main supplier of fruits, vegetables, meat, and dairy products. This is the home of Claire Sable and Kayah Kishori.

Helion- The second smallest skyland, occupied mostly by Mortals and lower class Elemei. A particularly industrial skyland full of factories and tightly packed buildings. The Awakening is based here. This is the home of Hadyn Trousta and Sylva Heron.

Shuru- The smallest skyland, which orbits directly below Vajra. This is the location of Avia Academy.

Narak: The demon realm, located under Indra, beyond the Mist. No one has ever travelled to Narak and returned.

TERMS

Skylands: The floating hunks of earth, rock, and water that make up the nation of Indra. They bob and shift location regularly, making an accurate map nearly impossible. The rocky underside of each skyland is studded with luminescent crystals.

The Mist: A thick haze of rust-colored clouds located beneath the skylands of Indra. The only thing seperating and protecting Indra from Narak.

Avia Academy: Indra's most presetegious school for Elemei. A child may apply for testing beginning at age eleven. From age eleven to age thirteen, they may test for admission once per year. If an Elemei does not achieve admission to Avia by the time they are thirteen, and is unable to attend one of Indra's lesser Elemei schools, they are demoted to Mortals.

The Awakening: A heretical, antagonistic organization of both Elemei and Mortals that reject the Gods and their teachings. While mostly non-violent, choosing to host ralleys and pass out pamphlets, they have made more brazen attacks in recent years.

Elemei: A person with the ability to manipulate (and in extremely rare situations, conjure) one of the four elements—Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. They can be identified by their eye color: red/gold for fire, blue for water, green for earth, and purple for air.

Mortal: A person with no elemental ability, or an Elemei who has had their connection to the elements stripped.

Gods: The powerful immortal beings who rule Indra from their home in Vajra. Sustained by the ceremonial blood-offerings of Indra's people. Only a select few Elemei throughout history (usually members of the Council) have ever encountered them in person. They are said to be creatures of otherworldy beauty and compassion.

The Council: Highly skilled Elemei who enforce the will of the Gods throughout Indra. There are four Council members: the figureheads of Komore, Bassa, and Helion, and the Headmaster/mistress of Avia Academy, who serves as the figurehead of Shuru.

Bloodborn: One who worships the Gods by offering blood monthly. They can be identified by the red cloth they wear around their left wrist.

Oncebled: One who worships the Gods by offering blood only once, when they are old enough to read and understand the Celestial Texts. They can be identifed by a slash scar across their left palm.

Celestial Texts: The written will of the Gods.

Ship: A sky boat held aloft by balloons and piloted by air Elemei. Available in an aray of sizes from single-passenger to hundred-passenger. The main form of public transportation in Indra.

Skycycle: A single or double-passenger glider that rolls on land with wheels or flies from skyland to skyland with its wings. Powered by pedaling. Commonly referred to as just a cycle.

Marcellic/Marcellian Power: Indra's equivalent to electricity. Example:  "marcellic lights."

INDRAN WORDS

Amma: Mother

Baba: Father

Bhanji: An affectionate term for a niece or nephew

Bhai: Brother (specifically a younger or close older brother)
