I've published my first children's story. That came as a surprise, even to me.

          I wasn't planning to write one, but I had this idea, and then some other genre profile made an announcement about the June contest of @childrensfiction, so I scribbled a first draft of text and illustrations, and then I scribbled a lot more — and now I have this (very short) story.

          It's in German, but I you don't understand German, don't let that deter you: you should be able to "read" the story by the illustrations alone. Give it a try — and tell me whether it worked for you!

It is time to say: thank you.

          Well, it is almost every time, but today I want to thank people who are important for my little novella Dans Macabre.

          First of all, I'd like to thank the @OpenNovellaContest team, for organizing this year's contest and including the prompt that let the story come into existence in my mind. Without that, it wouldn't exist, nor would I have written anything remotely similar. Thank you!

          Then I want to thank all those who have read the story and provided feedback:
          @DomiSotto
          @EvelynHail
          @JenniferPoyntz
          @JaxonBlacc
          @SarahSokol
          @brookibrik
          @AnniMarjoram
          @Kaiddance
          @oceanacamerons
          The unknown judges of the ONC
          Thank you!

          I would also like to thank those, who silently read a little or just had a look. I can't take you because I don't know how you are, so you're probably never going to see this, but still: Thank you!

          The story got into the third round but didn't make it onto the longlist. Obviously, there are points where the story could be improved — only that they are not that obvious to me. So, now that it's no longer in the running, anyone who feels like looking at the story a bit more: feel free to point out weaknesses. There is a follow-up to be told, and I want to know how to do it better.

          Of course everyone who gives me feedback can ask me to give them feedback on their works.

          If you don't feel like it: No worries. I know that there are tons of other good things to do.

@EvelynHail Thank you, three-fold! Another important thing was to have the chance to get readers that get references most wouldn't. Or simply enjoy the story and let me know they do. Participating in the ONC was good for many things; I don't regret it at all. As for expanding it for the Wattys — that would require 50000 words minimum — that's more than double of what it is now.

@Kaiddance And another thanks again! That's absolutely great! I know judging is subjective, even if the ONC judges did their best to base it on less debatable points. I'm still sure there are possible improvements many people would agree on, and I just wanted to say: No need to hold back when you see one. As for kicking: haven't found any kicking boots yet; I start to suspect Writer's Corner doesn't actually sell any boots... ;-)

@DomiSotto Thank you! Again. ;-) There was certainly no lack of feedback from your side — positive, constructive, and also pointing at possible improvements! And I had already got the hint that you think the cast is a bit large... ;-)
