@DeleIjezie The word is Methionylthreonylthreonylglutaminylalanyl...isoleucine. It's the chemical name for the largest known protein, titin.

It's Monday which means it's time for another *drumroll* Question of the Week!

What attracts you to a book? The cover? Blurb? Recommendation from others?

@The_Reading_Room Title, then cover, and then the blurb. For me, titles are introductions. Covers are the resumes
While the blurb is the interview.

@The_Reading_Room It depends, really. Usually the cover catches my eye first, especially if it is detailed or has a beautiful design. And then I read the blurb, and that is what holds my interest in the book, or completely erases any intrigue that I had for it. There have been a few books throughout the years, though, that had blank covers and it was the blurbs that drew me in.

The title first, then the cover, and then I get to reading the synopsis

Did you know a chicken once lived for 18 months without a head?

Mike the chicken's incredible feat was recorded back in the 1940s in the USA. He survived as his jugular vein and most of his brainstem were left mostly intact, ensuring just enough brain function remained for survival. In the majority of cases, a headless chicken dies in a matter of minutes.

@stuck_in_the__clouds To lessen the horror, I just want to point out that it probably wasn't conscious for that last 18 months. Like at all. The brainstem alone doesn't have the necessary complexity to support a mind. Also, the things that can make awareness torturous (like physical pain, severe discomfort, various negative emotions) are processed/generated in specific brain regions. If those regions are completely destroyed, their phenomenological contributions to consciousness disappears (eg. if the amygdala region is removed, people lose the ability to feel fear, anger, etc.)

@The_Reading_Room Woah! I didn't know that was possible. That's brutal. I would never want myself to end in such a way.
