"I can't see a thing in this helmet!" Mark Hamill was speaking to Harrison Ford, not as the character of Luke. This was not part of the script.
I think it gives them a perfect reason as to why Han took off his helmet to talk into a radio, and why Luke kept his helmet off after he rescued Leia. (I never understood this in movies.)
