there was this girl,
plain as ever.
she didn't find much
within herself.
but beware as you look closer,
because things may not always appear to be as they truly seem.
for what dwells in the inside,
is far different than what is on the outside.
if you opened her up,
you'd discover endless papers filled with notes, details, and facts;
but even with all that knowledge,
she still believed she was stupid.
if you opened her up,
you'd find piles of books;
but even with all those words,
she still couldn't speak.
if you opened her up,
you'd discover tons of doodles and scribbles;
but even with all those colors and strokes,
she still didn't believe she was creative.
if you opened her up,
you'd find actions of love and courtesy;
but even with all her generosity,
she still believed she was incapable of being seen in the caring light.
if you opened her up,
you'd discover tapes of her singsong voice;
but even with her strong hold of every note,
she still couldn't hear her own voice.
if you opened her up,
you'd find millions of photographs capturing different aspects of beauty;
but even with all those memories,
she still didn't believe in loveliness.
if you opened her up,
you'd discover many fantasies;
but even with all that imagination,
she still didn't believe in happy endings.
if you opened her up,
you'd find a tremendous heart;
but even with all that love to give,
she still didn't believe in "doing it for love".
if you opened her up,
you'd discover her people whom she called friends;
but even with all these people she loved,
she still felt alone.
if you opened her up,
you'd find a collection of candles,
some used and some brand new;
but even with all the flames of light and warmth,
she still had trouble finding the light within.
if you opened her up,
you'd discover this insecure creature, hiding;
hiding from a world she has yet to understand.
her own mind had corrupted her of all her riches,
leaving her heart in the cold winds of people's whispers.
one day she will arise,
and until that fateful day,
she will have to synthesize
her flaws and gifts
to bring about a new
and improved she.
