Chapter 13

Next day, in the afternoon.
Bondita went to the same place where she met that women. But then she thought that standing here and looking for someone to help her would be of no use. She should go into the nearby village and enquire things from people.
Bondita moved further towards the village. As soon as she reached inside the village, she found some ladies taking out water from the well.
Bondita: Suniye! Yhaan koi Shamita naam ki aurat rehti hai kyaa?
Ladies stood numb.
Nahi-Nahi, hum nahi jaante kisi Shamita ko'..
One lady said loud.
Bondita: Mujhe bahut zaruri kaam hai Shamita se, agar aap mujhe uska pta bta dengi toh bhala hoga.
Ladies started rushing back to their homes.
Bondita kept on shouting that at least someone should listen to her but no one stopped.

(The ladies didn't revealed anything because there were rumours spreading amongst the villagers about Shamita being characterless, thief, wicked and much more... They decided to stay quiet instead of revealing anything to Bondita)

Bondita felt discouraged.

But moved further and then she saw some kids playing 'godha chamaat khayi'
She recalled how Aniruddh used to encourage her by playing such games. A smile appeared on her face and she felt confident recalling Aniruddh's face.
She then went near those kids and asked them.
'Main bhi khelun tum logon ke sath?'
Actually she was trying to be friendly with those kids.
'Aapko aata hai khelna?' A kid asked her.
'Aur nahi toh kyaa? Bondita se koi jeet nahi sakta' she said with attitude.
'Toh khel kar dikhao' another kid said.
She started playing and established good bond with kids.

🎶 Handiyaan se rasgulle khaye
Pedon se imli chakhi...
Ek patr main vivaah ki 2 shartein likhi..
Tay kar liya ye Maa bina doli na chadungi...
Ladna pda toh duniya se lad jaaungi..
Sath dega vo!
Agar ho hausala mera....

Then they all sat being tired
And Bondita asked them about their daily routines.
Amidst General conversation, Bondita aksed one girl 'Naam kya hai aapka?'
'Jhilmil' the girl said with a bright smile on her face.
Bondita: 'Aree wahhh...Khoob bhalo Jhilmil! Achaaaa... Jhilmil! Mujhe ye batao aapke gaaon mein koi Shamita naam ki Kaki rehti hein kya?'
Jhilmil: Haan, vo toh shiv mandir ke piche vale ghar mein rehti hai. Sumedh Kaka ki Patni hai vo. Lekin gaaon mein sab baatein kar rhe hein unke baare mein, ki vo bhag gyi'
Bondita: Jhilmil, aap ye bta sakte ho Shamita Kaki kaisi thi?
Jhilmil: Shamita Kaki bahut achi thi. Hum jab bhi unke ghar ke pass se guzarte vo muskura deti thi. Kabhi kabhi toh kuein se pani laakr hum sabko khelte vaqt pailati thi. Kehti thi! Paani pite rha karo bachchon!
Bondita was listening to Jhilmil.
Jhilmil continued....
'Par.. '
Bondita: par kya? Jhilmil.
Jhilmil: par jab vo humein paani pilane aati thi na? Unke haathon par laal nishan hote the jaise kisi ne maara ho unhein. Jab maine unse ek baar pucha tha toh unhone kha kuein se paani nikalte vaqt pad gye!
Jhilmil was narrating these things to Bondita but then she was called by her friends and she went away.

Bondita recalled that Jhilmil said that Shamita's family resides near Shiv Mandir.
She has to go there.

At Shamita's House:
Bondita: Koi hai?
Shamita's Mother in Law (Shibani Devi) : Ji aap kon?
Bondita: Ji main Bondita. Devipur gaaon se aayi hun.
Shibani Devi: Toh hum kya karein?
Bondita: Ji vo dar-asal Mahilaon ke liye ek puja rakhi hai maine apne ghar mein. Toh bas unhein nyota dene aayi thi main.
Shibani Devi: Ghar par nahi hai vo aur koi puja-vuja main nahi aayegi hamari Bahu. Aap jaiye.
Shibani was about to shut the door but Bondita stopped her and said
'Ghar par hai nahi ya ghar mein rehne nahi diya aap logon ne use?'
Shibani Devi: Kya matlab hai aapka.. Huhhn?
Aree aap kon hoti hein hamare ghar ke maamlo mein bolne vali?
Bondita: Mujhe bolne ki zarurat na padti agar aap galat na hoti.
Shibani Devi started shouting loudly: Aree dekho toh.... Kaisi Aurat hai! Kuch bhi bole ha rahi hai... Hamare baare mein.

Bondita understood that whole village was aware about Shamita's condition but no one will stand for the right and her family won't listen to Bondita.

Bondita took leave and said to Shibani
'Abhi ke liye jaa rahi hun, lekin umeed hai jald hi mulaaqaat hogi firse'.

It was evening when she returned home.
Sumati ran to her and asked where was she?
Bondita replied that she went to play with the kids near the river.
Sunati: Maine Daak Khane mein bhi jaa kar pucha tha tere baare mein. Vhaan unhone mujhe btaya ki Jamai Babu ka phone aaya tha tere liye. Tune unse baat nahi ki Bondita?
Bondita was lost somewhere but as soon she heard Aniruddh's name she came back to her senses and told Maa 'Main kal subah hi baat kar lungi unse Maa'

There, Aniruddh was worried... he was not feeling good enough. The things were not normal for him
'Ajeeb si Bechaini ho rahi hai, Bondita se bhi baat nahi ho paayi aaj.. ' he was thinking in his room when Kaka came in.
'Bahu ke baare mein soch rahe ho naa Aniruddh!' Kaka said aloud.
'Ji kaka! Thoda man ghabra rha hai'
Kaka (in his inner mind) 'Aniruddh beta, tum samajh hi nahi pa rahe ho ki Bahu ke taqleefon ka dard tumhe KYUN hota hai? Na jane tum kab samjhoge apne aur Bahu ke beech ke is prem bandhan ko'

Aniruddh: Kya hua Kaka, aap yhaan? Mujhe bula lete, main aa jata.
Kaka: Aree, nahi nahi! Hum toh bas yhaan se guzar rahe the toh tumhe pareshaan dekh kar ruk gye.
Tu le kyun aata Bahu ko vapis? Do din hue hein usko gye, lekin ghar fir se soona ho gya hai'
Aniruddh: Aapki Bahu aana chahe toh na Kaka! Kehti hai....
'Abhi dil nahi bhara hai Pati Babu' he said while mimicking his Bondita.
Kaka laughed and said,
'Thik hai lekin agar is hafte ke baad bhi Bahu vapis aane se mna kare toh use lene chale jana... Aree is ghar ke log bhi use yaad kar rhein hein'
Aniruddh smiled at Kaka and kaka left.
'Ye baat toh hai Bondita... Bahut yaad aarhi hai Tumhari'
Said Aniruddh with a smile.
