In 1612, in Lancaster, England, the White Paternoster was spoken in evidence by nine-year-old Jennet Device.
Young Jennet told the witch trial court that she'd witnessed her family and neighbours casting this spell. It's quoted in Thomas Potts' The Wonderfull Discoverie of Witches in the Countie of Lancaster (1613), as damning evidence of evil doing by the Pendle community.
In modern times Jennet's testimony has widely been seen as false, either coerced by the magistrate or just plain lies told by a malicious child getting back at those who had mistreated her.
But what if Jennet really had heard those words spoken? What if the White Paternoster really does contain Words of Power...
