Beautiful Things

Beautiful things are often left unsaid
Like when a homeless person is given some bread
Or a cat on the streets is finally fed
Even when you stop to realize the beauty of a river-bed

Beautiful things are not always there
A suicidal teen’s smiles are empty, and rare
A mother gives up her hold on child care
And this child is haunted by lonely nightmares

Beautiful things are hidden in life
Hidden in hand holding of husband and wife
A friendship finally loses its grudges and strife
Or when the government decided we should save the wildlife

Beautiful things are not very present
But some people say they love you, and really meant it
Maybe a few things are malcontent, and unpleasant
So maybe the world should learn a few lessons
And see the beautiful things in all the world’s essence
