for the broken

you are silent.

you are silent because
there is simply nothing to say.
your heart is shattered into
a billion pieces.
you think
of the laughter
that consumed your entire body
when they tripped over the uneven step
that led up to your front porch.
it was nearly every time.
you think
of the times
in which you drenched their shirt
with tears that could compare to
waterfalls.
you think
of their soft features.
pearls and the glowing rays of sun
reflecting off the ocean surface;
eyes so dark you thought you could
drown in them.
you despise
the fact that they left
as though it was the easiest thing
in the world.

so you stay silent.
