If you are having some trouble with memorizing the words' gendre, here's a tip.
Just look at the ending of the word.
For example :
CasA- House ; this word ends in an "a", so it has a feminine gendre.
The majority of the nouns ending in an "a" have a feminine gendre. I said the MAJORITY, because there are some exceptions.
AguA; Water; this word ends in an "a". However, it has a masculin gendre. Why?? If you take a look to the word you can see that it starts with an "a". It doesn't sound very good if you put the article "la" in front of the word. It's the same as in English. When a word starts with a vowel, you say "An apple" instead of "A apple" .
Any noun that ends in "e", "i", "o", has a masculin gendre. There are very few nouns in spanish, that end in an "i".
For example :
TrozO- Piece; as you can see, it ends in a "o", so it has masculin gendre.
