(I will be using Wattpad's cover maker for these because it's easy to use and free.)
Section One: Font
1. DO make it bold and easy to read. The best covers are the most eye catching!
2. DON'T make it small and confusing. While you may want to make it look dainty or pretty, there are better ways to do it than skinny letters and small text. While this doesnt look bad, when it's scaled down it will mess it up. A lot.3. DO use differing sizes and spacing. Make the title the largest, the subtitle (if you have one) a bit smaller, and the author name a bit smaller than that. You also want the subtitle under the title, and close, with the author name farther away. This also helps add emphasis on whats important.
4. DON'T use the same size and spacing. This can make the title less eye catching, and can sometimes lead to comfusion. It also looks boring and unprofessional.
5. DO use the same font, or similar fonts. This makes the cover look more uniform and if done correctly, font variations can add to cover variety and make it interesting and eye catching.
6. DON'T use fonts that dont go together. If you use fonts that are too different it can often make the cover lose its organized look and make it look less whole.
7. DO use allignment to your advantage. Use it to add a touch of drama by shifting that subtitle to the right or that author name to the left.
8. DON'T puzzle piece it. You want to use the allignment to add drama and/or emphasis, not added confusion. Don't squish them together when you are alligning.
