By the time I finally got to school it was 8:10, so I was only ten minutes late. My first class was history, with one of my best mates, Louis. As I walked into the classroom, I tried to act as casual as possible, but that hard with 20 pairs of eyes on you.

"Harold, you're late. I would expect more for you," My teacher, Mrs. Rayborn said strictly.

"Sorry miss R, won't happen again," I said, a few kids laughed at that, seeing as we were finally out of here in four hours. I walked to my seat, in the back, next to Louis.

"Hey man, excited for later? I can't wait for The Choosing. I hope to be a Saver," he whispered giddily.

"Alright class, today we will be talking about The Choosing." I heard groans through the room. We had learned about the choosing since year 1, but even year they explain it again. "The Choosing was created by the magnificent founder of our town, Jonah Mason. Every year, graduates of year 12 will attend The Choosing at graduation, and also receive their soul locket. You are required to wear your locket at all times, because who knows when you will find you match. There are fifteen jobs that you might get during The Choosing. The Watcher, who is the man but usually woman, who watches the children during the day. Then there is The Saver, someone who helps sick or injured people." Mrs. R continued droning on by listing off all the possibly jobs you could get until she came to number fifteen.

"And lastly we have The Searcher. Now this job is only given to people every fifty years. Some people's soul mates are especially hard to find, and that's we're the searcher comes in. The Searcher helps find people's soul mates. They do whatever it takes to find the persons match, because we all know that you have to have a soul mate. The Searcher, however, does not have a soul mate. Mr. Mason never explained why the Searcher was created, we are guessing it had to do with the number of men and women were uneven in the town so he or she never had a soul mate. And after a while their job was to find other peoples soul mates instead; this means, he has no soul mate.”

“What happens when The Searcher finds someone’s soul mate is interesting, only The Searcher can see it. Jason described it as a glimmer that he saw from the lockets when two soul mates are around each other, so people don’t know who their soul mate is" Mrs. Rayborn continued mysteriously, "Unless the Searcher sees the glimmer."
