Sirius blinked. It hit him...Bellatrix's curse had hit him. The Department of Ministries battle was ever gruesome around him, but somehow, he felt detached from it already, like he was on the outside looking in. The Black Veil was directly behind him, he realized as his stomach gave a particularly rowdy jolt. He felt his face draining to a shade of ghastly white, the sweat beads on his neck had turned painfully, piercingly cold. He was done for, yes he knew that. He accepted it as the stinging and searing of his insides intensified, and, feeling a twinge of panic, acknowledged the fact that the room, the Death Eaters, the battle...Harry...were growing more and more distant, little by little. He realized he was falling into the veil, but it seemed to be taking longer than logical. The panic that reigned his conscience was short-dwelled;it was overthrown a split second later by the thought of the single word, the single name, that brought forth such a rush of worry, nostalgia, fear, hope, and yet love of the utmost sorts: "Harry".

He shifted his eyes to the right at just the perfect time to catch one last glimpse of his godson with Neville. Sirius saw Harry watching him as he fell with a screwed up expression of bravery...no, now horror...on his face below his monstrosity of jet black hair and legendary lightning-bolt scar as he registered what was happening. He, Sirius, had just seen Harry's malakite eyes widen even more than seemingly possible with hope quite evident in them, when his eternal-seeming gaze (that, in actuality, only lasted a few split seconds...why it seemed so long, Sirius was unsure) upon Harry was blocked by something thick, something soft, something black and billowing. He felt it swallow him with a finalizing "whoosh", and at long last, he heaved a great sigh and closed his eyes as he hit the stone floor with a startlingly soft thud and whispered, barely audible,

"Harry."

It was as if Sirius's whisper had carried back out to the battle, because just as his lips closed again and let out a last spurt of breath, he heard Harry bellow at the top of his lungs,  "SIRIUS!" The ends of Sirius's mouth turned up in a smile simply soaked with pride, then his lungs ceased to operate, and the world went dark.

-Don't worry, it doesn't end here. If you guys like this so far, I'll continue it.
