To gather their children for home.

Sunday afternoon heat wavers upon the blacktop

Swimming for the sky like snakes.

Sweat beading his forehead.

I rise and shake my head.

As I speak, I feel a sudden chill fall upon my shoulders.

I give a shiver as something like snow melts through my skin

Icicles cutting into heated flesh.
