24.

When I enter the hotel room, David is awake and watching television. His initial reaction when he sees me seems to be relief, but he quickly dodges my eyes after I've walked into the room.

"Good thing you're here," he says, "I didn't want to use my own money to buy breakfast."

I know he is lying, but I don't comment on it. Being back in this room is making me feel worse about myself and I don't know what I'm supposed to do. I have no idea where Luna is and it's my responsibility to know. We're across the country and she's my best friend.

I sit on the edge of the bed and ignore him while I dial Luna. No answer.

"I've been calling her all morning," David tells me.

I sigh.

"Let's wait until lunch and then order something to eat," I say.

I'm trying not to get upset, but it's extremely hard to do so. I'm so worried that my stomach is in knots and my fingers are shaking. Luna is an adult, yes, but I'm still uncomfortable with her being alone in California.

My phone starts to ring and I jump anxiously to answer it— except, it's not Luna. It's my mother.

"Hello?" I say into the phone.

David's eyes are wide and he sits up. I shake my head at him and look away.

"JaeJe," she doesn't waste a moment, "Olivia's mother told me that you're all over social media."

Upon hearing what my mother has said, I want to hang up the phone. I don't— mostly because I want to hear what else she has to say. I also figure that I should tell her that I am actually dating Jungkook. That would be a daughterly thing to do.

"Yeah, I am," I reply, "I met Jungkook."

"...Jungkook?"

"Yes, mom. J. The guy I've been talking to." I roll my eyes at her forced ignorance as if she had no part of any of it.

She is silent but I know she is doing a victory dance to herself.

"And?"

I don't want to give her the satisfaction, but I know if I don't say it now it will only be prolonging the inevitable. I hate letting my mom know she has won, and unfortunately, she won this time.

"We're dating."

David is staring at me and is not the least bit surprised. Why would he be? He's seen us together.

"Ah!" She yells into the phone, "Really? You're not lying to me, are you? I'm so happy! Hyunwoo! You'll never believe this!"

"Okay, rude," I say with a smile at her last comment.

I don't want to smile at her reaction, but it's the first time in a long time that my mother has been so excited about something.

"Did you see what I left in your suitcase?" She asks lowly.

I roll my eyes and shift uncomfortably away from my brother. He can probably faintly hear her voice.

"Mom," I whine, "stop. He's really nice. I'm getting to know him."

She's whispering but I cannot hear her. I know that she is probably trying to explain quickly to my father what has been going on. My father is usually slightly strict about my dating habits, but I can tell by the lack of arguing from the other side of the phone that he is more accepting of this boyfriend.
