The Dreamweaver's Daughter is a submission for the Open Novella Contest 2020, under the fantasy prompt, "a seamstress is tasked with making three dresses: one made from sunshine, one from moonlight, and another made from stardust."
In tackling this prompt, I found inspiration in exploring old fairy tales (including the very similar Allerleirauh) and revisiting them with an updated twist. Tales of trials and perseverance, like the Black Bull of Norroway; tales of identity and appearance, like Tatterhood; and tales of transformation and love, like that of Tam Lin.
Normally an extensive planner, this contest has challenged me to write without my usual weeks of research. As such, I apologize for any mistakes or errors in ancient Celtic customs, names, or locations. Please suspend your disbelief until I can edit and revise come April.
Until then, please enjoy and let me know what you think.
And a very special thank you to SkinnerBx for her tireless editing and encouragement.
Dedicated to my grandfather, who was often more myth than man.
