Chapter 4

Earth

Raven didn't find herself in these kinds of situations often. With a microphone between her hands and her voice blaring from the speakers of the bar-restaurant. The last time she remembered holding a microphone was the first week after the Sisters of Saint Patrick had kicked her out, claiming she was the Devil's child. After she was left alone and abandoned by the only family she had ever known, Raven had accidentally found another Witch like her, Minerva, and followed her into a more rebellious phase. But that had been a long time ago. Minerva had tried to get her to join her coven and for a while she had. Until she realized what they were really doing with their magic. Needless to say that her split with Minerva was less than ideal.

After that, Raven joined the circus for a little while, performing tricks with her magic, but that didn't stick either. She found her purpose after she encountered her first demon. Minerva's coven taught to worship and praise all demons of hell, as they were the source of their magic. The Sisters of Saint Patrick had taught her the exact opposite. Raven had felt sick to her stomach. She didn't want to be this evil creature, she didn't want this magic that she was born with. And so, she had made a decision that day, when she encountered her first demon.

Which was the reason she was here right now. Her eyes never left the silhouette of the man serving drinks behind the bar. Neither while she sang, nor when the song ended. She had met him a couple of times in the elevator, but she had never talked to him. Her neighbor looked normal -no, he looked less than normal- but just standing near him was enough to sense that he was not human. However, she could not sense what kind of demon or creature of the underworld he was, meaning she could not banish him to hell. And so, she started watching him. Well, spying was the correct term.

But all that was about to change today. Her stalking had not paid off as she had hoped -at all. The Demon, as she was calling him in her head, had not done anything remotely suspicious or something to indicate what he was. So, other than the knowledge that he was not human, she had nothing and Raven could not banish him without his name.

"I'm taking a break," she told the pianist, who nodded and started playing a solo instrumental song he had in his partiture.

Getting down from the stand, all eyes in the room were immediately on her, following her movements. Raven was used to it. Most times she actually sought it out. It was how she picked her victims. She swayed her hips in the way she knew would drive most men mad and moved through the sea of tables with the bar as her destination.

He was wearing the restaurant's uniform, a black shirt, black trousers, and red suspenders. She had to admit that he looked kind of yummy with how his long, slightly curly hair was stuck behind his ears. She had seen him put it in a low ponytail at some point, but as she neared him she noticed that he had put it back down.

"Hello, neighbor!" she sang playfully as she leaned on the bartop.

The man-supposedly-demon looked up from where he was fixing a drink and looked straight into her grey eyes. She saw him breathe in and smirked. Seducing him would not be difficult.

"H-hey!" he stuttered back.

"Fancy meeting you here. I didn't know you bartended in this new place."

That was a complete lie. She knew that he worked here and it was why she got that singing gig in the first place. She had stalked him, after all, in order to find out.

"It-it's new." he looked adorable as he stuttered again.

Her new neighbor and possibly next victim looked starstruck at her and a little lovesick. Raven would've felt guilty if she didn't know that he was a demonic being of the underworld and was probably faking everything in order to steal her soul. Well, there will be no soul-stealing tonight. The only action he was probably going to get was the ass-kicking-straight-to-hell she was going to give him.
