"Hey, this is Rhea. Sorry I can't come to the phone right now. If you want, leave a message and I'll get back to ya. Lates!"

...

"Hey, this is Rhea. Sorry I can't come to the phone right now. If you want, leave a message and I'll get back to ya. Lates!"

I ended the call and dialed the familiar number once again. I continuously chewed on my fingernail, my heart pounding endlessly against my chest, the nerves making it beat violently. The once butterflies in my stomach were now dead, reality had stabbed each and every one of them, keeping me from having hope. I didn't want this hopeful feeling that I clutched so tightly to fade. I don't want it to be a vague memory.

"Hey, this is Rhea. Sorry I can't come to the phone right now. If you want, leave a message and I'll get back to ya. Lates!"

A single tear slowly ran down my cheek as I quickly ended the call and redialed. Not losing hope, I muffled my sob with my hand as the agonizing rings echoed in my mind like a painful tear of a blade along my skin.

"Hey, this is Rhea. Sorry I can't come to the phone right now. If you want, leave a message and I'll get back to ya. Lates!"

"No!" I ended the call once more and redialed, ignoring the gut feeling in my stomach that kept reminding that all I would hear would be her voice mail. The only thing that would keep me connected with her. Just a mere voice mail, nothing more.

I pressed the 'Send' button and placed the phone to my ear. Tormenting seconds of silent rings clouding my mind.

One ring.

Two rings.

Three rings.

Four-

"Stop calling."

And then silence followed after that.

Flabbergasted, I stared at my phone. My hand trembling as the voice replayed over and over again in my head. My heart pounded in my ears as everything around me went silent. The only thing I could hear were those two words.

Two lifeless words that sounded so much as if the person had given up.

As if my body was already engineered to dial the number again, I pressed my phone to my ear as it rang. My breathing coming out in shaky pants. Nervous and pain twisting my heart in two, I tightly shut my eyes. Hoping-no, praying someone would answer.

After the fifth ring, I felt defeated. Once again, I would get the voice mail. Before I would end the call, the same lifeless voice came on the other line.
