layer mask was something i stayed away from in the beginning. i realized it's actually very useful and easy to use. it's a great way to erase what i need and when i make a mistake, i can easily undo it without having to start over.
this is what I'll be using.
click the layer mask icon that can be found at the bottom of the layer pannel.
now you get get to work! hit the brush tool ('b' is the keyboard shortcut), and just the brush settings to your liking, and make sure the colors are set to black and white. black is the erase and white is to restore.
if you make a mistake, there's little arrow icon above the colors. this allows you to switch between the two colors. or you can hit 'x' on your keyboard to switch it. while using the brush tool with the color set to white, you can fix your mistake.
when you're done and what to adjust the picture, make sure the picture is highlighted, not the mask. and if you're going back and forth on masking and adjusting, make sure you're on the right one so you don't accidently brush your image and not the mask.
